Floriculture Boom Adds to Agri growth Bouquet
The Government of India has identified floriculture as a sunrise industry and accorded it 100 per cent export oriented status. Floriculture in India, is being viewed as a high growth Industry. Commercial floriculture is becoming important from the export angle. The liberalisation of industrial and trade policies paved the way for development of export-oriented production of cut flowers. The new seed policy had already made it feasible to import planting material of international varieties. According to IMARC, a market research company, the Indian floriculture market is expected to reach a value of Rs 661 billion by 2026, exhibiting a CAGR of 19.2 per cent during 2021-2026. As per figures provided by Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), the country has exported 15,695.31 Metric Tonnes (MT) of floriculture products to the world for the worth of Rs 575.98 crore/($77.84 million) in 2020-21.
