Welcome
We are so excited to welcome all of you Revolting Children (and adults) to
Wing It Musical Theatre Ltd’s production of Matilda the Musical Jr!
Matilda Jr marks Wing It Musical Theatre’s first live performances since we
opened our doors in June 2021. We were acutely aware of the negative
impact that the coronavirus lockdown had on the social development and
mental wellbeing of our young people and wanted to create a safe space
where they could build their confidence, express themselves and learn new
skills.
The success of our Wednesday night Musical Theatre Classes quickly allowed
us to open up our Sunday Show Classes and we are delighted, through the
support of our incredible Wing It grownups and you, our audience, to be
able to provide our students with today’s performance opportunity.
Our cast have been training in dancing, singing and acting to prepare for
this show but have also been learning about aspects of technical theatre
and about what it takes to put on a piece of live theatre. In addition to
this, participation in the performing arts instils discipline, self-confidence,
self-awareness, hard work, resilience, accountability and determination in
our young people - all transferable skills which we are sure will be of use to
them in their bright futures.
Of course this could not happen without a huge effort from the amazing
“Team Wing It”. Our tutors Claire Marie, Megan, Monica and Sara bring
energy, enthusiasm, kindness and passion to every rehearsal and really go
above and beyond for Wing It Musical Theatre and our students. We are
incredibly thankful for our amazing team - we love you and think you are
awesome!
We must also give a massive thank you to Trisha - our janitor, advisor,
administrator and general go to person! Wing It would not be the same
without you and we are forever grateful for all that you do.
We are excited to announce that our Sunday Show Class will be continuing
after the summer holidays. Our next production will be performed at
Websters Theatre on 25th and 26th March 2023. We hope to see all of our
existing cast return but we are also able to open up some spaces to new
members! If you would like to join in the fun please get in touch at info@
wingitmt.co.uk or give us a call or message on 07766 235162.
All that is left for us to do is to thank you for your ongoing support and
invite you to sit back, relax and enjoy today’s performance of Matilda the
Musical Jr!

Show Synopsis
Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical JR. is adapted from the full-length
musical which was based on the book by Roald Dahl, and features a
book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin. The show
opened on the West End in 2011 and made its Broadway premiere in
2013. The musical earned seven Olivier Awards, including “Best New
Musical,” and five Tony awards, including The Tony for “Best Book of
a Musical.”
Matilda, a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic
powers, lives with cruel parents who find her to be a nuisance, a lousy
little worm, and a bore. When Matilda enters her first term at school,
she captures the attention of Miss Honey, a kind teacher, and the
two form a wonderful friendship. Unfortunately, the school is ruled
by a tempestuous and mean headmistress named Miss Trunchbull,
who hates children and delivers cruel and unjust punishments to all
her charges. Matilda is determined to change her story, but will her
cleverness and courage be enough to withstand the reign of Miss
Trunchbull?
Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical JR. is presented through special
arrangement with and all authorised materials are supplied by Music
Theatre International 423 West 55th Street, New York, NY 10019, 212-
541-4684, mtishows.com.
Meet the team.....
Steph
Director of Dance and Drama/Performance
Steph has always been dramatic! Participating
in dance and musical theatre classes from a
young age stemmed a passion which gradually
developed from performing to teaching. Steph
has been a freelance director and choreographer
for many years working with various adult/youth
amateur dramatic societies and theatre schools in
Lanarkshire and Glasgow. She balances Wing It with her “day job” as a dentist
working specifically with children and patients with additional support needs
whilst also teaching on the dental degree course at Glasgow University. Steph
often says setting up Wing It Musical Theatre is the best decision she has ever
made and, being a big kid at heart, she enjoys the classes just as much as our
students!
Patrick
Director of Music
Patrick has been heavily involved in music from
a young age. He trained in piano and trumpet
performance at the Royal Conservatoire of
Scotland’s Junior Department before coming to
the “dark side” and taking on a role as Musical
Director for a local amateur dramatic group. In
addition to his role at Wing It, Patrick works full
time as a Pharmacist and also enjoys a busy performance schedule playing with
several wedding and function bands throughout Scotland. He is a true believer
in the benefit that involvement in the arts has in the lives of young people and
has loved seeing the amazing progress that our Wing It students have made in
such a short space of time.
Megan
Matilda Coach
Megan, like our students at Wing It, attended musical
theatre classes as a child. She loves performing and
during her time at university, played leading roles
such as Brooke in Legally Blonde in amateur musical
society productions. Ironically, Megan studied law at
university and now works as a solicitor! Megan has
loved watching our students grow and develop during
the Matilda rehearsal process and is an advocate for the
transferable skills participation in the arts provides to
young people. She hopes you enjoy the show as much
as she has enjoyed creating it.
Sara
Matilda Coach
Whilst at secondary school, Sara was awarded a place
at the prestigious Dance School of Scotland, Scotland’s
only government funded Centre of Excellence for
Dance and Musical Theatre. She received expert
vocational training whilst simultaneously undertaking
a full academic high school curriculum. She took
daily vocational classes in dancing, singing and acting
as part of the Musical Theatre course. Sara is now at
Strathclyde University studying Spanish, International
Relations and Politics. She absolutely loves working
with our Wing It kids and has become a firm favourite,
especially with our junior class! We are so lucky to have Sara’s experience,
knowledge and positive energy at rehearsals each week and are certain all of
the hard-work she puts in will be evident in the performances you see onstage
today.
Claire Marie
Matilda Coach
Claire Marie was heavily involved in performing arts as
a child and loved it so much she completed a degree
in Musical Theatre! She worked professionally in the
arts industry but now spends her days as a primary
school teacher. As a teacher, Claire Marie places huge
importance on the arts and their role in confidence-
building and self-expression. Alongside Matilda,
Claire Marie has another huge event this summer - her
wedding! We wish her and her fiance Ben all the best
for their future.
Monica
Matilda Coach
Monica is a massive theatre-kid! For most of her life she
has participated in Youth Theatre playing roles such as
Joanne in Rent, Audrey 2 in Little Shop of Horrors and
Sour Kangaroo in Seussical. She is the perfect person
to have at rehearsals as she has so much experience
performing in Youth Theatre productions. She fully
understands and has valuable insight into the assistance
and encouragement students require and has quickly
built rapport with our junior class. Working in customer
service, Wing It is a great creative outlet for Monica and
she loves to watch our students shine and reach their full potential. She can’t
wait to show them off during today’s performance!
Hurry Bros would like to wish the cast of Matilda the very best of luck!
