Message from the
Head of Schools
Next Tuesday, we will not be in school as we have been given a holiday to celebrate
Eid al-Fitr. Mark Chacey, a Professor of Religious Studies in Dallas, USA, makes a very
important point when he says “If we ... want to understand how to relate to the rest of the
globe, then we need to have a richer and deeper understanding of different cultures —
including various religions.”
Being a global citizen requires us to be aware of and understand the wider world – and our
place in it. A global citizen takes an active role in their community and works with others to
make our planet more peaceful, sustainable and fairer. We can do this by embracing the
richness that comes from other cultures, ways of thinking and living within multiple cross-
cutting communities—cities, regions, and nations.. In searching for a richer and deeper
understanding of diverse cultures, we must embrace religious tolerance understanding,
acceptance and a willingness to move beyond our differences.
In searching for a richer and
deeper understanding of diverse
cultures, we must embrace religious
tolerance understanding, acceptance
and a willingness to move beyond our
differences. We should appreciate
spiritual values, beliefs and practices
which are different from our own and
be willing to accept others and their
differences. By embracing others we
can make a positive difference – and
help build a fairer, safer and more
secure world for everyone. As we
approach the Eid break I would like to
wish our CISM community a happy,
safe and healthy holiday.

Film Club
"Film Club is a club where members gain a
deeper appreciation for film through analysis
of already existing films, as well as producing,
writing, and starring in their own film. They
learn about the various stages of filmmaking,
from scriptwriting and storyboarding to
acting and camerawork. Recently, they have

A TALK GIVEN BY
MR. MICHAEL WILLIAMS Photo courtesy of Original Filipino Performing Arts
On the last day of Literacy Week (April 22, 2022, Friday), students attended
a talk by Michael Williams, a lifelong actor and artistic director. He has played
several roles in the past 40 years, these being in acclaimed plays such as Miss
Saigon and The King and I. Mr. Williams shared insights from his personal
experiences on the relevance and importance of theater in our lives, and how
theater contains deeper meanings beyond the surface. Moreover, he talked about
how actors fine tune the skills every human has, and use them to give perspective
to the audience on other ways of life, thinking or being. They use different tools
like their body, voice and imagination to convincingly tell a story to the audience Photo courtesy of Music Online
while simultaneously giving deeper insight to them. To end his talk, he emphasized
how theater is important in communicating the truth effectively, and how it
ultimately is a learning experience for both the actors and the audience.

By Reina Sanchez
Desi Afsania Fisher
One day, you might be walking around the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) and come
across a group of ladies with their zumba instructor, divided into two teams, having a dance-
off, while joking around and laughing under the sun. One of these super fit ladies would
likely be Desi Afsania Fisher, the mom of Natalie Putri, Grade 7, and Natasha Annabella,
Grade 5.
Your Profession: Housewife, zumba instructor, organiser of exercise classes and owner
of gym wear brand "athelticph".
Your Husband's Profession: My husband, Sean, is an IT professional.
How long have you been living in the Philippines? 10 years.
Where are you originally from? Indonesia.
Tell us more about those exercise classes around BGC: There are lots of different kinds of
exercise to do in BGC. I've tried them all and picked the ones I really love: zumba,
circuit training, boxing, saltar (workout with a trampoline) and biking.
What was your favorite subject in high school? Social Studies.
What is your favorite childhood memory? When it was Ramadan (the holy month of
fasting in the Islamic calendar) in my village, we would have fireworks every evening
and play with neighbours and friends; and open fasting together with family.
The pandemic skill I learned: I learned so much-- how to cook different kinds of food;
and crochet, which has now become my little business. I custom-crochet bags and
swimwear.
Tips for keeping happy and healthy: Always think happy thoughts, eat healthy, work
out and do what you love to do always.
Do you teach any exercise classes yourself? Yes, I teach zumba kids, which makes me
happy!
What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently? I was supposed to go to the
vet to bring my 3 kittens for vaccination on Friday, but it was a Thursday. The vet is
so far from my home, and is closed every Thursday!
What are you most excited about these days? To wake up every morning and go to the
gym while the kids are going to school.
My favorite place in the world: BALI.
What's your favorite holiday? Summer.
What's your favorite food? Nasi goreng with sambal.
What show on Netflix did you binge watch lately? Korean drama.
What's your favorite dance move? The Shuffle.
If you wrote a book, what would it be called?
Falling in Love with the Philippines
