PREFACE
This guideline is produced as references for lecturers and students to full fill the requirement
of syllabus DCQ6325 Quantity Surveying Project. The topics covered in line with the latest
syllabus prescribed by the Department of Polytechnic Education. This course require student
to prepare and submit a complete Tender Document, Master Work Programmed and log
sheet.
This guideline may help the student to have a clear understanding about the task, provide and
complete the task as per requested and may help the lecturer to monitor and evaluate
student’s work.
This guideline is written in a simple and practical way. Some of the contents are further
summarized in the form of table. This guideline consists of Course Information, Course
Supervisor, Course Assessment Panel, Formation of Students’ Group, Project Brief and
Requirement, Master Work Program, Takwim and Course Assessment.
We hope that this guideline helps students and lecturer to understand the needs of the
syllabus DCQ6325 Quantity Surveying Project well. Suggestions for improving the coverage
and the content of this book are most welcome from the end-users.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
This Quantity Surveying Project Guideline & Logbook is intended to be used for
students pursuing DCQ50233 Quantity Surveying Project. It provides a clear
illustration to the course. The content is arranged accordingly with comprehensive and
simply explained and supported by a clear illustration text for the used to the course.
By producing this book, the lecturers are easy to monitor the work progress produced
by the students and far more concern; it is much expected to help the students to fulfill
the entire requirement needed by the course.
2.0 OBJECTIVE
By having this guideline, it is much expected for the students to:
i. Have a clear understanding about the task
ii. Provides the task as per requested
iii. Produce and submit a complete Company profile, Tender Document, Master
Work Programmed and log sheet by following the ‘Takwim’.
3.0 COURSE INFORMATION
QUANTITY SURVEYING PROJECT course enables students to apply knowledge
and practical works to develop Tender Documentation.
Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to:
i. Organize a work programme to prepare Tender Document accurately. (C2,
PLO1)
ii. Measure quantities for construction works according to Standard Method of
Measurement. (C3, PLO3)
iii. Demonstrate continuous learning and information management skill while
engaging in independent acquisition of new knowledge and skill to develop a
project. (A3, PLO5)
iv. Demonstrate ability to lead a team to complete assigned project. (A3, PLO8)

4.0 COURSE SUPERVISOR
Each group will be supervised by a supervisor that being appointed among the
lecturers of Diploma in Quantity Surveying program. The designated group will be
determined by the course coordinator and approved by head of program.
The roles of the supervisor are as follows:
i. To ensure the students fulfill the project requirement
ii. To guide the student throughout the course
iii. To monitor the students’ progress of work as per ‘takwim’
iv. To held consultation/meeting
v. To produce and abide all quality procedure and documents as required by
Quality Unit

5.0 ASSESSORS
The panels for assessment are also appointed among the lecturers of Diploma in
Quantity Surveying program that being determined by Course Coordinator and
approved by Head of Program. However, the final portfolio will be assessed by
external assessor that being invited from the representative from Royal Institution
Surveyor Malaysia, any government bodies, contractors and consultant that directly
involved with quantity surveying field.
The following are the expected obligation of the panel during assessment period:
i. To assess the students’ work according to the submission and presentation
requirement
ii. To give comment based on the students’ submission and presentation
iii. To give appropriate marks accordingly
6.0 FORMATION OF STUDENTS’ GROUP
The students are required to form groups that consist of THREE (3) members each.
On a certain circumstances, a group of FOUR (4) members is allowed based on the
approval of course coordinator.
All related works needed for this course must be distributed fairly among group
members and a statement of the distribution work shall be submitted to the supervisor
for approval before proceed with the work.
In addition, each group is required to creatively produce a company profile that
consists of the following scope of work:

iv. Vision
v. Company Overview
vi. Core Business
vii. Organization structure
viii. Other related information that necessary to be provided

7.0 PROJECT BRIEF & REQUIREMENT
The project must comply with the minimum project brief requirement as follows:
i. Minimum total gross floor area is 250m2
ii. Minimum 2 story height and not more than 5 story height
iii. Standard drawing is not allowed
iv. The set of drawing shall consist of development plan, architectural drawing,
structural drawing, electrical and mechanical drawing, infrastructure and all
necessary table and schematic diagrams.

8.0 MASTER WORK PROGRAM
Each group is required to produce master work program that showing in detail each
work that need to be performed starting from the acquisition of drawing until final
submission. Each works must be arranged accordingly in weekly schedule.
The group has to report the weekly progress done by showing the Gantt chart to the
supervisor.

11.0 MANAGEMENT FILE
The students are required to creatively produce their work in a proper filing method.
The measurement forms and bill of quantities draft must be produced in two different
file and arranged in accordance of building elements. Each group must produce the

12.0 STUDENTS’ LOG SHEET
The students are required to observe their consultation hours as per academic
schedule. Each meeting with the supervisor shall be recorded and verified by the
supervisor. The review to the log books will be conducted by course coordinator
during week 5 and 15. The warning and barring letter will be released to those group
who fail to achieve minimum consultation hours as per required.
13.0 EVALUATION AND ASSESSMENT FORMS
The students will be evaluated based on four criteria which are portfolio, presentation,
management skills and teamwork skill. Those criteria will be evaluated on individual
basis except for portfolio that will be evaluated on group works performance. The
following tables show the rubric of designated criteria.
