Cunha, Darlena. “Roe v. Wade Ruined Our Chance for True Abortion Rights.” Time. 2 March
2016. Print.
According to this article, legislators have made the procedure of abortion much harder for
women. The statistics are shown within the article through examples from researchers, federal
law, and court cases. With the focus on Roe v. Wade, one can notice that the basis to proceed
with an abortion was made based on privacy rather than equality, which is where the issue lies.
Marty, Robin. “The March for Life’s New Message: ‘Pro-Life Is Pro-Woman’.” Cosmopolitan.
25 Jan 2016. Print.
This article claims that the concept of “pro-life is pro-woman”, which is further explained
to help women accomplish a sense of stability rather than abandonment through abortion. The
argument establishes pro-choice believers have the wrong view toward the pro-life concept, and
is better examined why one may choose pro-life rather than abortion.
Westinghouse Electric. Advertisement. Rosie the Riveter. Feb. 1942: Web. 27 April 2016.
The advertisement of “Rosie the Riveter” covers the battlefront and home front during
WWII, when women worked in job fields that was commonly male dominant. The image was
the start of a campaign attempting to recruitment women for the munitions industry. This lead to
an increase of women in jobs that usually would not be offered to them. That being said, Rosie
portrays a powerful woman who is more than capable of managing the wellbeing for herself and
others. This advertisement will be a great example to argue that women have the right to decide
for themselves the responsibility of caring an unborn child.

Abortion Education
According to the Guttmacher Institute, one in four women will get an abortion before
turning thirty. While abortion has become abundantly considered in nearly half of American
pregnancies, the topic of debate stems from an emotional connection for many people. Abortion,
being such a common issue in society, has developed a strong momentum of interest on whether
or not abortion should be available to women. This essay will discuss why abortion should be
supported or opposed through the critiques and politicians who have debated influential
reasoning to the future of women’s rights.
Regardless of one’s gender, for the past forty-three years the Supreme Court’s decision in
Roe v. Wade has established controversy within society on abortion rights. Based on the
fourteenth amendment, Roe v. Wade extended federal privacy rights for pregnant women seeking
an abortion. The Supreme Court ruled that women may attain an abortion before the first
trimester. But it’s legality has become susceptible to attack by redefining the proposition. Many
people perceive abortion based on their logical position of rightfulness and the right of a human
being in utero. Abortion will be greatly discussed within society for years to come because, as
shown through the past centuries, abortion affects emotional aspects throughout many lives.
After Roe v. Wade, states have developed a lattice work of laws which prohibit or limit when and
under what circumstances a women may move forward with an abortion.
In contrast to most states, abortion should be legal because every woman should have the
option to decide what is the best choice for her future or body. Although abortion has become
legal, ratification focuses on the privacy of attaining an abortion, rather than the expansion of
equal rights for women. Abortion should not be banned, for the reason that if a woman,
“Chooses to have an abortion, or carry to term, that should be her choice alone because the birth
Valdez 7
of a child affects a woman at the time and throughout her life in ways it does not affect a man”
(Cunha). Each woman should have the ability and resources to choose what best suits her future.
There are many women who decide abortion would be the best choice and do not have any
resources to do so, which initiates a higher percentage of the individual to fall below poverty
line. In addition, Planned Parenthood allows for many women to obtain resources like birth
control funds and cancer screenings. The removal of funding for Planned Parenthood impacts
women’s constitutional rights. In other words, as an American citizen, laws should provide
women with means to initiate decisions for herself; as opposed to authorities outlawing
possibilities that can best improve a woman’s life. Notably, justice includes equal amendment
rights for all woman to have options when she considers abortion.
Although “pro-choice” individuals depict “pro-life” as people who do not believe in
equal rights, anti-abortionists claim otherwise. Anti-abortionists argue that, “’A woman's
capacity to have children is an incredible thing, not something to be ashamed of…It’s an
incredible gift’” (Marty). Pro-life groups argue the belief that a fetus’ life demands the right to
life, rather than a woman’s right to privacy. For pro-life groups, the procedure affects
emotionally. Clearly, the imagine of a baby in utero establishes an imperative position on the
stand against abortion. Abortion ultimately ends the life of a baby in order to grant a female
privacy rights. The question of whether access to abortion benefits or damages a woman
contributes a fundamental argument. This medical procedure can develop dangerous physical
and emotional circumstances, such as cervical complications and depression. Anti-abortion
includes helping women who are struggling to get by, who have obligations attempting to
balance parenting and professional responsibilities. One’s stance for “pro-life” means having a
strategy that provides for women's everyday needs in their lives. By illegalization of abortion,
Valdez 8
the solution will be more access to accurate information to prevent pregnancy and access to
contraceptives. The anti-abortion policy stands to help women develop all a woman needs to
provide for her and her child’s everyday needs.
I chose the topic of abortion because I can easily comprehend both ends of the arguments
point of view. What I believe abortion means, regardless of a person’s personal beliefs, is that a
woman should have the right to choose what would be done to her body. A country is not
morally right to dictate a women’s body and what she decides to do for herself. Unfortunately,
many people stand against this argument. Through my research I was able to learn more about
other women and their circumstances with or without abortion.
In conclusion, the question of abortion is a question of rights, which are claims made by
individuals who often come into conflict with one another. The belief of pro-life and pro-choice
movement both encourage feminism. In addition, the ability for women to have control of their
body is a civil right. The Fourteenth Amendment addresses equal rights for all American
citizens, that includes the right to have an opinion about what occurs in a woman’s body.
Contrary, activists firmly endorse abortion as morally wrong. Anti-abortionists prompt that an
error within Roe v. Wade occurred when the life a child in utero was not acknowledged. In a
country where contraceptives are readily available, one must take precaution or responsibility for
her actions. Laws have not illegalized abortion, but states have regulated systems that make
abortion very difficult to access. The debate on abortion impacts individuals emotionally because
ultimately the argument is between a mother and her child in utero. It is obvious that regulations
should be made to prevent abortions from becoming a method of birth control. The applicable
way for a court to determine these conflicts is by defining which rights are more fundamental
than others and rule appropriately. However, it is essential to not allow laws that strip away
Valdez 9
constitutional rights of the individual.
