WEEK 2 vs THORNTOvsNTHOTRNRTOON TRJOAJANNS S
UPDATE
Great teams adapt to changing situations and
circumstances. Here we go! Forget about Vista
Ridge and let’s turn 100% of our focus on Thornton.
Here are some initial thoughts, and we may adjust
some things during practice throughout the week.
QUICK SUMMARY
THORNTON is coming off a week 1 loss to Northglenn, 30-6.
They are predominantly a RUN team, but will pass the ball a bit. Their QB – who is their best player – will tuck it and run when
under pressure at any time.
• Last week, they ran the ball 24 times for 49 yards (2 yards per carry)
• They fumbled 4 times on offense, losing all 4 – be ready to STRIP and POUNCE
• The Center’s shotgun snaps are very erratic; 11 balls hit the ground last week vs Northglenn – be ready to ATTACK
• The O-Line looks to simply SHIELD BLOCK and does not look to drive you off the ball
• They pull the PLAYSIDE GUARD, and they do NOT fill that A-Gap…it’s WIDE OPEN to chase down the line
THORNTON OFFENSIVE PERSONNEL FOR OUR DL TO BE AWARE OF
OVERVIEW OF THORNTON OFFENSE
They use 3 primary formations:
• Spread Pistol backfield, RB behind QB
o They love running plays to the WIDE SIDE / HEAVY PASS out of SPREAD
• Trips with #3 being a WB; Pistol backfield
o They run plays 100% TO THE WB/TRIPS SIDE
• Bronco with WB away from the Twins side
o They run plays 100% TO THE WB SIDE

vs THORNTON TROJANS
DEFENSIVE NOTES
• It’s simple: LET’S PLAY LOOSE AND FAST AND SOLVE OUR PROBLEMS WITH VIOLENCE TO THE BALL
STRENGTH (To be finalized during film on Monday)
• If SPREAD TO WIDE SIDE or to our LEFT if MOF
• If ANY WB TO WB
o This can be either BRONCO or TRIPS…doesn’t matter
