This year marks a very special milestone for our company.
In 2015, Columbus McKinnon will celebrate its 140th
anniversary. Our heritage dates back to old-world crafts-
men dedicated to the art of iron working and chain making
in 19th century America. With the advent of the industrial
revolution, the production power of these hardworking
men and women greatly increased with the development
of machines and mass production processes. Capitalising
on the opportunity this change provided, our founding
fathers expanded the young company into the hoist and
chain company we know today.

Through our long 140-year history, we have pioneered revolutionary products and
industry-changing ways of helping the world lift and position a variety of materials.
We’ve done all this with a focus on safety, as we’ve worked to help customers be
more efficient and productive.

The CMCO story begins in several places: in St. Catherines, Ontario, where
L.E. McKinnon, a hardware clerk, started his remarkable career as an industrial
engineer in around 1877; in Chicago, where Moore Manufacturing Company was
exhibiting considerable hustle and American inventiveness in 1975; and in the
“Black Country”, England where Jethro Billingham mastered the art of chain making
before moving to Columbus, Ohio.

This combined with the fact that Thomas Weston; designer of Yale’s Weston
Differential Pulley Block was also a local man, proves that we Brits have significant
historical links with the foundation of Columbus McKinnon Corporation.

CPA ‘HEAVY DUTY’ PNEUMATIC CHAIN HOISTS

Pneumatic chain hoists with hook or integrated trolleys

Capacities: 2000 - 10000kg

The conception is in accordance with the design of the model CPE. With 100% duty
rating and an unlimited number of starts the model CPA is suitable for heavy duty
applications. It is insusceptible to contamination, humidity and aggressive mediums
from the outside. The hoists are composed of three main components which makes
service easy and inexpensive.

Features include:
• Designed for operating pressures of 4 to 6 bar.
• Robust rotating piston motor has an adjustable spring pressure brake that holds the

load secure even in the event of an air failure.
• The standard oil bath lubricated planetary gearbox is particularly smooth running and

enables a low overall height.
• High starting torque due to switching valves in the motor body.
• Low noise emission due to large dimension silencer.
• Sensitive control by means of 2 resp. 4 button pendant control with

emergency-stop.
• Up to 3000kgs on single fall giving a low overall height.
• The 5-pocket load chain sheave, manufactured from wear resistant

case hardening steel, is matched perfectly to the load chain to
guarantee smooth and precise chain motion.
• Drop forged suspension and load hooks.

• The externally adjustable slip clutch is designed
