3.1.5.2 Book Labelling
Book labelling will be done after the receiving process. This
process consists of two methods which are print the spine label
and book label. Spine label containing the call number of the
book that is attach to the book spine. While the book label will
be affixed on the title page which contains the call number,
accession number, title and author.
Steps in book labeling:
1. Click ‘Cataloging’ > click ‘Utility’ > click ‘Book label’/
‘Spine label’.
2. Choose > Enter:
• Search by: Accession number
• From: JB00009656
• Template: BookJB.ini
3. Print both book label and spine label.
4. Patch the printed book label on the title page. Make sure
affixed the sticker on top of borrow and return slip.
Overlay the crystal seal on the book label.

3.1.5.3 Release for Circulation / Patching Security Strip
Book release is the final process of a books journey in the library.
When the book release process has been done, the status of the
book in the OPAC automatically will switch from 'Final
Processing' to 'Available'. So that, users can borrow the book.
Steps in patching RFID security strip:
1. Type the information of the books in notepad saves as
‘item’.
• Accession number call number and title.
2. Every page 17, patch the RFID book strip at the center of
the page.
3. Use WISERF software for security tagging. Point the
book on the detector tagging and barcode scanning.
Make sure there have no error appear on the tagging
status.

3.2 Other Activities
3.2.1 Written Bibliographic Organization (BO) for Sultan Johor’s
Comic Collection.
These collections are delivered from the Bukit Serene Castle by the
officers who is in charge there. This is because the collection is too much
and they are not able to complete it by their own self. So, on the summon
from the library Director and the consent of the palace, the collection of
comics is delivered to Johor Public Library Corporation. Then, some
selected staff were asked to help together to prepare the BO for the
comic, including internship students.

3.3 Special Project
To fulfil the requirement of internship students, need to have special project.
The special project needs to be something that can give an impact to the
library user.
3.3.1 User Guide on How to Use OPAC
3.3.1.1 Introduction
Nowadays, technology is becoming more sophisticated. We can see
around us where the average has used technology to facilitate daily
activities. But not everyone is good at using existing technology.
Some of them know the function of certain technology,
unfortunately they do not know how to use it. This situation same
as the user in Johor Public Library Corporation. They already know
that the library has Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) where
the activity in searching book can be done as fast as a tiger, but they
do not know how to use it. This will bring a negative impact to the
library performance. Everyday there is user go to reference desk
only to ask whether the book that he wants is available in the library
or not.
The staff who is duty on reference desk is the same staff who is duty
on circulation desk. The problem comes when there is a lot of user
come to the reference desk only because they want to ask about
availability, it will interrupt the activity process at the circulation
desk.
The library management already provide 4 computers that is already
sign in to library OPAC, but there is no user comes to the computer
for searching a book. This is because there do not know how to use
OPAC.

3.3.1.4 Details of Special Project
The User Guide is the best idea for my special
project. Although it seems like quite simple, but it is
very useful to the library user. It contains step by step
on how to use OPAC and the explanation is using
easy word. So, it suitable for various groups of ages.
Furthermore, I always keep update about my special
project to Mr. Afzan and ask for his opinion to
improve my work. Before start this project, I often
searching other user guide to look for references and
inspirations.

The front page looks simple because I do not want its
looks too crowded. Enough with the title and logo of
ILMU to make users know that this is User Guide if
we put it beside each computer in the library. If I
designed it with colourful, it will not look like formal,
but seems like fancy item.

3.3.2 Internship Bulletin
3.3.2.1 Introduction
I have been asked by my supervisor, Mr. Afzan bin Mohamed to
do an internship bulletin as my special task. The bulletin must
content the activities that have been carried out throughout the
industrial training programme. Unfortunately, the amount of
total activities in the library are only a few due to MCO. We as
Malaysian need to quarantine our self and family at home for
about 2 months starting from 18 March until 9 June 2020 in order
of pandemic COVID-19. Here I attach the activities that have
been done in this Johor Public Library Corporation (PPAJ)
during my internship.
3.3.2.2 Front Page
I have use Canva application to design my front page. It is paid
application but I have access the free one. Designing using
Canva make my work easier and better. I put a picture of Johor
Public Library Corporation, its logo, title, date internship and my
name as a writer in this front page.

• The exhibition of Malaysia Cartoon and
Comic Evolution was held in the building of
the Johor Public Library Corporation
collaboration with ‘Malaysia Cartoon and
Comic House’. The exhibition is open to the
public and has been running from 18
December 2019 until 30 April 2020. There
are many activities are provided to visitor in

7-8 Library Toon Johor 2020: Comic Competition
• Closing Date: 15 Mac 2020
• (Closing date postpone to 14 April 2020)
• One of the activities throughout this
exhibition is Drawing Comic Competition.
Its open to public and there is two category
which is student and public for the prize
judgement. The prize for student category is
also different with category of public. As
student, the prizes are little bit small if
compared to public category which is cash
RM1,000 as grand prize for student category
and RM2,000 as grand prize for public
category. Not only the grand prize, the
second and third prize among these two
categories is also different. This is because
of level of age, where the scope of student
category are small and only focus to student
in schools, while category public is open and
the scope focus are big and open to all
netizen of Malaysia. No matter he or she are
student in a university, private or
government employees, there are all eligible
to compete in the same category. The second
prize for student category is RM800 and for
the third prize is cash RM500. There are ten
consolation prizes which cash RM200 each.
The amount of cash is different with open
category which is the second prize is cash
RM1000. This amount is same like amount
of grand prize in student category. Cash
RM800 as third prize for open category and
there is also have ten consolation prize

• A comic drawing workshop was held to
enable the public to learn the real techniques
of cartoon and comic drawing correctly and
easily. Besides, this workshop at the same

time wants to cultivate the interest of
Malaysians in the comic industry as well as
uncover the hidden talents of Malaysian

cartoonist in Malaysia as instructors for this
workshop. They will provide guidance in
line with the ability of the participants
present. Workshop participants will be
taught step by step techniques and tips on
drawing comics well so that the impact will
be felt by the reader.

in Malaysia by cartoonist Mie. The sketch
name as ‘Kampungku’ and it has been
completed by YB Tuan Haji Aminolhuda bin
Haji Hassan. The sketch long was 15 feet.

21-25 Closing Ceremony of NILAM Award Johore 2020
• 6 FEBRUARY 2020 (WEDNESDAY)
• Johor Public Library Corporation was hosted
that ceremony of NILAM Award 2020 on
Wednesday, 26 February 2020. NILAM
(Nadi Ilmu Amalan Membaca) is the official
name as a program organized by Educational
Technology Division (ETD). This program
running at the primary and secondary
government schools with is supervision by
the Teacher Training Center (TTC) is one of
the networks under ETD. Under this
program, ETD should take responsibility
NILAM’s program able to carry out by the
schools with smoothly. Regarding that, it
should provide training and service to the
teachers and collecting the report and data
related with NILAM and do some analysis
work before submit it to upper management.

26 Farewell Ceremony for Mrs. Ruzilah Binti Ahmad
• 24 June 2020
• Mrs. Ruzilah is one of the earliest
employees at PPAJ. During her 36 years of
service, she has worked with two directors,
and this shows his loyalty to PPAJ. Staff at
PPAJ called her as Mak Ogie because of
her experience of spending days falling up
and down together with PPAJ.

27 Last Day Internship
• 30 August 2020
• 30 August was my last day internship in
Johor Public Library Corporation. As I wrap
up my awesome internship, I wanted to
thank you for being wonderful teammate
these past seven months. I feel so grateful to
have been given the opportunity to complete
my internship here.
I have learned so much and appreciate the
time they spent teaching me new skills and
useful learning in managing a library. I feel
like I am ready for next steps that will bring
me closer to my goals, thank you for the

4.0 Reflection
4.1 Description of Event/Project/Activity
Planning and create user guide on how to use OPAC were under the direction of my
organization’s supervisor to be as my special project for my industrial training. The
planning and create user guide have thought me many things. The real library process was
revealed. That information is provided by professionals thus it shown in a professional way.
The special project which is the user guide on how to use OPAC can indirectly encourage
the interest of user comes to library. This is because they can find any of book that they
want and check whether it is available or not only by searching in OPAC. They also can
check the available location of library that have that book. This user guide also can help
and make the work task of library staff in reference desk easier.
In terms of user guide design and creating, I was focused more to a simple and user-friendly
user guide to make user easy to understand all the content. It includes things such as adding
latest pictures of every menu step by step and explain its function to make it better.

4.2 Application of Knowledge, Skill and Experience in Undertaking the Task
4.2.1 Cataloging Skills
The real experience in cataloguing will be apply in doing a practical training. Before
this, I only learning and understanding about cataloguing subject through the
syllabus in class. Lectures only guides and thought us about how to use cataloguing
tools in determining call number, subject heading and etc. I have experienced in
copy cataloguing instead of using manual cataloguing. I refer to bibliographic
record in National Library of Malaysia while in copy cataloguing process. Mostly
in the library all the books mostly buy from supplier rather than received by
donation. I also assigned to arrange books in shelves according to Dewey Decimal
Classification.
4.2.2 Creative and Innovation Skill Developed
I developed my creativity in making Internship Bulletin. I design the front page of
the bulletin in order to make it same look as another bulletin. I learned to explore
more on the Canva application that I have use to design the bulletin. Next, I create
a user guide on how to use OPAC for the user use. This is because mostly user who
comes to the library did not know how to use OPAC even the library is already sign
in the OPAC in every computer they have for user. They do not have the user guide
so it hard if the library staff want to explain step by step for many users who comes
to the library. I see this problem and this gave me an idea to create a user guide on
how to use OPAC. I have been searching many types of user guide in internet for
inspiration. Finally, I have successfully create one user guide on how to use OPAC
and my supervisor at my workplace likes and praise the project I have done.
4.2.3 Multitasking and Helpful
Multitasking skills is ability to perform several tasks at the same time. I applied to
be a multitasking and helpful person to everyone. That means, I learned about how
to become a multitasking person whenever the staff need my help and I must willing
to do any tasks in order to gain new knowledge. In order to accomplish all the job
given I need to know how to handle the situation and able to overcome the problem.

For example, while performing my duty in cataloging department, I need to do a
cataloging process for a new book at the same time need to do a bibliographic
organizations (BO) for a Sultan Johor’s comic collection. Besides, I need to do a
checklist of new coming book as order from the library officer. I also learn to be a
helpful person. For example, library staff asks me to help in transfer a lot of book
from the car to the catalog department by user a trolley.
4.2.4 Work Under Pressure
I managed to work under pressure because I need to handle all of the activities by
myself. I learned to not delay up my work to avoid redundancy besides to finish
work on time.
4.2.5 Information Searching Skills
As we know, library is a place to search information and user’s expectation is staff
in the library is one of the persons that have an information searching skills. Before
this, I study and learn this skill in the class for subject Information Literacy
(IMA557). This is because sometimes users or staff in this organization come to us
and asking about their task and need to find information in this library. In order to
make they know how to become a person who has information searching skills, I
create one user guide on how to use OPAC. Through this user guide, user will learn
about information searching and it will be helpful to them in finding a book.
4.2.6 Teamwork and Self-Adaptability
Teamwork is important in an organization because it is something that will help the
organization reach its vision and mission. When working at the cataloging
department, teamwork must be applied because there is a lot of books that need to
be process. Each one of the librarian staff divided the task so that the work can finish
faster. As a teamwork, we need to have a good relationship among group member
in order to success.

Self-adaptability is a skill that prove an industrial willingness to change in order to
suit different situations and condition. This skill is important in order to build a good
teamwork. Handling a program need teamwork task. I need to adapt well with
different situation and environment with users and library staff. For example, I need
to blend with everyone that I have meet when I handle comic workshop as duty on
registration counter on that event which have more than one hundred participants. I
learned to be friendly with everyone that I meet.

4.3 Personal Thoughts and Opinion
Based on my personal thoughts and opinion, I am very grateful and happy working at Johor
Public Library Corporation to complete my industrial training. I am very thankful to have
a great supervisor to assist me for the five months of my industry training. There are a lot
of works that related to my course that I have done. It was a really good experience to work
with many people in organization. Besides. All the staffs are really friendly and always take
care of me. They also work together as a team to achieve their target. They are my supporter
during completing my internship. However, I really hope that Johor Public Library
Corporation create more activities and programs in order to attract more user and visitor
comes to the library.
4.4 Lesson Learn
4.4.1 Time Management
The things that I realized most is how to manage my time. This is because campus
life and work life are different. Class is not usually early in the morning while
working time is always early in the morning every day. Earlier, I could just miss a

which is almost the beginning of my work life, I need to attend everyday in early
morning punctually. I got the problem when I need to walk by myself from home to
the library which is 1.1KM far. So I need manage my time by wakeup early to
breakfast before go to the library.
Then, I have a problem in conducting activities and programs with users as I start
my internship in early February which is pandemic COVID-19 make our activities
and programs limited. Moreover, when the prime minister announced the
Movement Control Order (MCO) which make us stay at home for almost two
months. So, I need to reschedule my plan to find suitable time and date to have
activities with user. Hence, I learn to manage my time better by maintaining a
balance between my work and personal life, without harming any of them.

4.4.2 Teamwork
During my internship I learn to work as a team without focusing entirely on myself.
I also develop patience in situations when I disagree with other members of the
team. In such a situation, it is extremely necessary for me to be a team player in
order to work together and achieve the goal. Internships offer me the opportunity to
learn this skill as me often work with teams.
4.4.3 Self-Management
It means that I am able to do my job without my supervisor to check up on me all
the time. In the beginning, he needs to briefing and teach me clearly. Then I will do
the rest. For example, in doing cataloguing activities, he teaches and we do it
together. After that, he trust me to do the rest. I also can help other staff who ask for
help. I also join Johor Public Library Corporation’s program and build good
relationship with them.
4.4.4 Planning and Organizing
Handling a program and creating a new thing really need a proper planning and
organizing. For example, I plan many projects to do as my special project and have
told to my supervisor starting first day I work there. But, the MCO make it
impossible to implement. So, I need to think something that simple but give benefit
to the user and library. From that, I learn on how to manage the schedule, how to
delegate the tasks and make sure it done on time. I am lucky because all the library
staff give their full commitment towards me.
4.4.5 Computer Skills
While I in training activity, I learn so many things using a computer and this will
gain my knowledge in computer so that in the future I will able to apply my
computer skills in any field works such as Microsoft Power Point, Microsoft Excel

and etc. I also learn in editing using Canva. Indirectly, I can gain my knowledge
about editing and very helpful while creating by special project.
4.4.6 Better Customer Service
During the internships, I learn how to deal with different people. Many activities
take place in circulation counter such as borrowing, returning, room booking and
others. So, I need to know how to deal with researcher, students and also staffs.
Interpersonal skills can be gained through customer service training and it is
important to applied during interactions between employees and students as well.

4.6 Overall Conclusion
Based on five months of my industrial training at Johor Public Library Corporation, I
got many new experiences and gained some work environment-related skills. I can also
add some of theorists that I have studied on campus to my work routine. Therefore,
from my internship, it will help develop and enhance some ability to adapt change,
enhance the ability to view practical carrier standards, enhance management,
interpersonal skills, and enhance understanding of how organization and others
function. I think industrial training will help student to adapt to the real work
environment and build self confidence in future. I hope that this training will make me
being more ready to enter working life and create a good relationship among employees
of the organization. All the knowledge and experienced can be saved as memories and
used as the guidelines for future.
