From the team...

Editor
These past 3 months have been an eventful and learning expe- rience for the editorial team. In all honesty, we did not expect many stories to cover and yet this quarter has pleasantly proved us wrong. The various events con- ducted across the regions and the various achievements this quarter has made us proud to be the ed- itorial team this term. One of the biggest achievements we have ac-
quired as a team, is the bonds that we forged from trial and error and from the joy to sharing our success for this term. Here is to wishing several such successful years for our community.
Happy reading!

President
AKMG Emirates (2019-2021)
Dear AKMG family Members,
AKMG Emirates has grown from its in- ception with 300 members in 2003 to 1400 members in 2019. The achieve- ments of an organization are the re- sults of the combined efforts of each of its members. Our organization, in its 16 years of existence, has grown in leaps and bounds. I am really proud to be the 8th President of this august organization and its elite members, fol- lowing the remarkable footsteps of my distinguished predecessors.
For this term, “Strengthening Our Bonds” has been chosen to go hand in hand with “Our Health Our Wealth”, the theme of last term.
This news letter is revived and pre- sented quarterly to highlight our pro- grammes conducted at the Centre and
Dear AKMG Friends,
Warm Greetings from the Secretary General !! It has been a busy quarter for AKMG Emirates and its regions since the installation of the new team of office bearers on April 26th at Ras Al Khaimah.
The President’s visit was conducted to Regions 2,3,4,5,6,7 which was well at- tended by the members of the central executive, regional office bearers from various regions and the members. The interactive sessions between the Pres- ident’s team and the members helped in bridging the gaps and improving the communication between the members, regional office bearers and central office bearers. All the regions conducted Iftar get togethers in the holy month of Ramadan which was attended by the central team and ex-
in all Regions. This will give an idea of the working of our great association to all its members.
Dr. Jiby Rajan, Dr. Manoj P Mathews, Edi- tors and Dr. Ajay Pillai (Web Editor) have taken great pains to collect, compile and get it printed on time. Kudos to Dr. Jiby Rajan and team.
I am sure this news letter will continue and you will get to read it every three months hereafter.
I bow with reverence to our visionary leaders Padmashree Dr. Azad Moopen, Late Dr. M K Ibrahim, Late Dr. V S Viswa- nathan, Dr. K Radhakrishnan, Dr. P M Sir- ajuddin, Dr. Sunny Kurian, Dr. Hanish Babu and all other Central and Regional lead- ers who have taken AKMG Emirates from its fledgling infancy to enviable heights through sheer dedication and hard work.
ecutive members from other regions. The President’s Theme 2019-2021 “Strength- ening our bonds” which is intended to improve the friendship and camaraderie among the members has created a very positive impact. “Our Health Our Wealth”, the successful president’s theme of 2017- 2019 is still being continued. The regional activities are in full swing with the regions conducting many literary and social activ- ities.
The first CWC and leaders orientation seminar for the office bearers was con- ducted in the Lou’Loua Beach Resort, Sharjah. An interactive session of regional ladies wing activities were also conduct- ed, where the lady members and lady spouses could propose and elaborate on various activities which can be conduct- ed in AKMG Emirates. As per the feedback received from the attendees the orienta- tion seminar was a good experience for

Dear Friends,
Greetings from AKMG Emirates. The past few weeks after the initiation to the new committee has been quite busy with the President’s visit to most of the emirates and activities by vari- ous Emirates. The 1st CWC and the training session to the new office bear- ers of the 2019 – 2021 went off well. As a Treasurer, I have managed to give enough insight into the financial han- dling by all emirates.
Financial discipline and transparency has been the key force in the success of our Organization. 2003 was the year of launch of AKMG under the patron- age of Dr. Azad Moopen and a few members whose determination has brought AKMG Emirates to celebrate its 16th year of existence, having run through tough situations with strong will power.
ganising a tour programme to Kenya from 26th to 31st August 2019. A blood donation camp in association with IBPC Sharjah will be conducted in the IBPC Premises on 15th August 2019. The President visit to Region 1 will be conducted on October 4th, 2019. Regions 2, 4 and 7 will be conducting their Onam celebrations. Regions 1,2,4,5 and 6 will be having their CMEs in the next quar- ter .
Let me thank and appreciate the sincere efforts of Dr. Jiby Rajan, Editor and the ed- itorial committe of AKMG Emirates for this edition of newsletter.
Looking forward to the whole hearted co- operation of all our members and wish AKMG Emirates the very best to reach great- er heights of glory.
Let’s Strengthen our bonds !!!
In the current quarter, we are having our presidents Theme “Strengthening our Bonds” along with the previous Theme “Our Health Our Wealth” taking its shape for the betterment of mutual interaction of which we believe that we are “ONE” exception to the fact of being in different Emirate.
CME’s, Cultural, Inter Emirate Individual Sports event like Badminton club should be conducted by each Emirate with mixed bag participation. Our 1400 Odd members, spouses and Kids are enough to make any activity successful and rest assured, all members can see a difference in routine life (a meaning to your exis- tence)
I wish AKMG and Medecon all the very best and Hope to see all members in ac- tive participation to future events.

The Take Off...
The Unity Fest was held at the Hilton Al Hamra Beach and Golf Resort, Ras Al Khaimah on April 26, 2019.
The event commenced with the inaugu- ration of the Unity Fest, followed by the Cultural Programme titled ‘Colours of Life’ where each Region chose a colour and presented the interpretation of the colour with their cultural programme. Blue, black, yellow, green, red, white and pink were the colours representing the regions 1 to 7 respectively. The thought provoking themes of these performanc- es touched the hearts of many. It was heartwarming to see families from all the regions come together for this wonderful display of colours.

The rise of our badminton lovers club....
At the end of the sports day of AKMG, after those fiercely fought badminton matches, the badminton lovers of our group lamented ” oh if only we had regular matches once in 2-3 months instead of these once in two years, we could have better closer interactions while we nurture our love for bad- minton...”
This sowed the seeds of such a thought in our mind and the foun- dation of this badminton lovers club took place. So, decided to contact badminton captains of each emirate and entrusted them the task of en- rolling the enthusiasts into the club and depending upon their playing skills grouped them into 2 categories Group A and Group B.
And before long we had over 56 play- ers registered for this venture and for our event on 12th July 2019, we had confirmed 30 players.
These 30 players were picked by their respective captains randomly and
formed into 3 teams of 10 players each under one captain and thus formed the following teams:
1. Morning star under Captain Dr. Mehroof P.P
2. Shuttle Busters under Captain Dr. Mathew Varghese
3. Fire Birds under Captain Dr. Jacob Sam.
The first edition of the badminton club went off very well with all play- ers enthused by their participation and the event. The events stan- dards were raised to exceptional levels by our head master Dr. P G Jacob with his well laid out order of play & scoring system and each captain saw to that games were conducted smoothly.
The Champions of the first edition of the AKMG Men’s Badminton Club were Dr. Shabeen Parambath (Region 4) and Dr. Ajay Kumar N.S (Region 1). The first runner-up were Dr. Praveen C.P (Region 1) and Dr. Yousuf Thayal (Region 4). Second
runner-up position were bagged by Dr. Shihas Ha- meed (Region 7) and Dr. Ajmal Kader (Region 4).
Our Dynamic President Dr. George Jacob inaugurated the tournament by tossing the shuttle cock at sharp 6 PM which kicked off the friendly but well fought games. Dr. Sughu Koshy, our Secretary General, an en- thusiastic shuttler himself, was very keen on this con- cept of forming a Badminton club. Dr. Feroz Gaffoor central treasurer and Dr. Sajith Bhaskar sports conve- nor joined the venue on encouraging our players.
We ended the program with a dinner by 10 pm after felicitating the winners and wishing the rest good luck for our next edition which would be in the next 2 month’s time.
The ladies present expressed their desire to have a similar club for them and we are now in the task of forming a ladies badminton club within the next 2 or 3 months and hope to see all the ladies cheering for their teams soon.

New term with new members and new ideas have joined hands to continue with the duties of AKMG Region 1 with utmost sincerity and dedication.
A group of small and flexible exec- utive committee for AKMG Region 1 under the strong leadership of Dr. Fazil Ashiq for the year 2019 – 2021 was installed on May 24th.
The term commenced on May 24th during the holy month of Ramadan with an Iftar meet in Country Club Abu Dhabi. Region 1 chairman Dr. Fazil Ashiq addressed the meeting which was successfully attended by around 260 members of AKMG
AbuDhabi family. The occasion was graced by Secretary General Dr. Sughu Koshy, President Elect Dr. George Joseph, CME Chairman Dr. Jamaludheen Abubacker, Cultural Convener Dr. Nirmala Raghunathan and leaders from Region 3 as well. The outgoing committee was giv- en a great applause for their sincere efforts and duties done during the past term.
Adding colour and true meaning to our Iftar meet, the value of “giv- ing and sharing” was highlighted by our children through a BOOK DO- NATION PROGRAMME and CHARITY DRIVE.

August 2019 Page 21
Children donated used story books whole heartedly in ex- change for other used books. Few of our children themselves were there at the counter catering to the needs of all the guests. A variety of books were displayed out of which 175 were distributed. 25 children have registered in the book club. A BOOK CLUB is currently in the process of making.
Another initiative by our children was the CHARITY DRIVE done on June 3rd for the less privileged camel rearers. We identified around 3 groups of a total 110 camel rearers in the desert area of Samha, where 36 of us including children went with Iftar packets and shared a meal with them. It was indeed a great experience, an eye opener and a blessing for all of us.
Sports Activity:
Region 1 volleyball enthusiasts get together every Tuesday night for an hour of friendly volleyball at Al Forsan sports com- plex.
Social responsibility:
Ongoing “We Care” Program of Region-1, which extends a monthly aid of INR1000/- each to 30 ailing children in Kerala continues into the fourth year and the quarterly update of the program from the coordinator in Kerala in charge of our pro- gram was obtained by Dr. Indira Gouthaman.
CME:
A Dental CME titled “Curbing Infections in Dental Practice” was held at the Royal Rose Hotel in Abu Dhabi on May 3rd.

The President and the team visited Region 2 on 3rd May 2019. This combined meeting of the team and the newly inducted Regional Executives was very productive with several innovative ideas, suggestions and advice.
At the 1st Executive Meet- ing held on May 13th 2019, Dr. Shahnaz Salim, Mrs. Fathi- ma Basheer and Mrs. Jishu Varghese were selected as the Ladies Wing Coordinators and several activities were planned for this year.
One such activity that was planned and executed was the Ramadan Charity Drive. Members of the Ladies wing shopped for fruits in bulk, then packed it at Dr. Jamalu- deen’s residence and distributed them to 400 manual workers at selected labour camps during Iftar.

Everyone contributed generously to this effort including our little warriors who opened up their piggy banks and happily parted with their savings. The event was a grand success and was covered by 3 TV channels, telecast with the interviews of several senior mem- bers.
Under the initiative of the Consulate General of India, International Day of Yoga was conducted on 28th of June 2019 at the Habitat School, Ajman. Re- gion 2 was a joint organizer of the event and we provided medical support for the event. Dr. Prashant CK was chosen to receive the token of appreciation from Mr. Neeraj Agrawal, Head of Chan- cery & Consul, on behalf of our region.
As a part of our ongoing Social service activities, Region 2 proudly sponsored and participated in the “Sharing Fridge” programme. The fridge was installed and inaugurated on 26th July 2019, by cutting of a ribbon by our past president Dr. Abdul Kader Nizar at the Ajman Industrial Area. Our little war- riors and members ensured that the fridge was overflowing with food. This noble gesture was well received and we are looking forward to do more such activities in the coming days.
Region 2 Iftar was arranged at the Sultan- ate Restaurant, Ajman and was indeed a great evening of friendship and camara- derie.
The Ladies wing under the leadership of Mrs. Jishu Varghese and Mrs. Fathi- ma Basheer also conducted a Bread baking and Table set up etiquette class on 5th of July at Dr. Jessy Kabeer’s res- idence and Kaleidoscopic Design Stu- dio. Mrs. Fathima Basheer volunteered to demonstrate bread baking right from basics. Dr. Jessy Kabeer shared her creative tips to make our tables look elegant and was indeed very in- formative. Miss Hana Kabeer (D/o Dr. Jessy Kabeer) did the planning and arrangement of the baking zone and also assisted in the table setting ses- sion. It was an evening filled with fun and frolic.
A Heat stroke awareness campaign was conducted and the fridge contained a poster with pictorial depiction on rec- ognizing heat stroke and preventing it. The Poster was presented in eight languages.
All these events required great collab- oration and effort from the members and their families further strengthen- ing the bonds of our region.

Region 6 had the privilege of hosting the Unity fest 2019 & the induction ceremony of the office bearers for the new term 2019-2021. This was a great occasion for the new team of Region 6 [most are relatively freshers], in the AKMG organizing dept, to work along with the veterans & this gave Region 6 the start for the new term. Organizing any event is a great feeling, with the shared responsibilities & commitments
among the members. The countless trips to the venue, the luxurious Hil- ton beach resort, the food sampling sessions [which is a privilege for the organizers alone], the tricks and trade of stage, hall, dressing rooms, family entertainment, fellowship etc was taken care with the complete involvement and enthusiasm of each and every committee mem- ber, so that everyone was aware of their individual responsibilities. The true value of friendship and bond-
ing was seen everywhere and that resulted in the immaculate conducting of the event. The feeling of satisfaction after a suc- cessfully conducted pro- gram is something which many of us are aware of and which has to be ex- perienced. That was the feeling we all had, after the grand success of the Unity fest, which was ap- preciated and applaud- ed by one and all of the participants. The friend- ship & bonds among the members of Region 6 got stronger, and we are
