FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK
“The impossible exists only until we find a way to make it possi- ble”....Mike Horn.
Naseej-a cultural tapestry, was one of its kind spectacle! From a seemingly outlandish living room natter, this emerged to conquer the minds and media! Finding a place in two world re- cords, performing on a ‘dream come true stage’, every bit of it was exciting and overwhelming. This event marked the true spirit of our Presidents Theme-Happi- ness in Togetherness; regional differences vanished and the team worked as one large group of talented and enthusiastic lady doctors. Leaders and well-wish- ers of the organization extended rock solid support and history was born. Yet another testimo- ny of what we can achieve as a
group, this time on a national platform.
Summer months that followed saw our group events dry up. However, Kalikkalam has pulled us out of our slumber and will keep us on our toes until the grand sports day finale in Dubai on 5th and 6th of November.
Sports activities always boost sportsmanship and camarade- rie, which is the absolute objec- tive of the event. One point to be careful about is ‘consisten- cy’...as we often pack our duf- fle bags once the sports day is over. If you think about it, even the dictionary marks Fitness as a synonym of Consistency....
Enjoy the sports season!

In a first, 51 Lady doctors from India, who have been frontline COVID-19 warriors in the UAE performed a fu- sion dance to salute the country’s resilience and commemorate its 50th anniversary. All these doctors are members of Association of Ker- ala Medical and Dental Graduates- AKMG Emirates.Titled ‘Naseej,’ a cul- tural tapestry, the fusion dance event was held on the main stage of Global Village at 7pm on March 13.
‘Naseej’ means interlacing of cultures and the doctors have chosen dances of the desert from this region and In- dia. It was a fusion dance of Khaleeji (Arabic/Emirati style) and Ghoomar (Rajasthani folk dance from India). The fusion dance was choreographed by Anupama Pillai, wife of Dr Praveen Nair.
The programme was supported by India Pavilion at the Global Village, which hosted a felicitation ceremony after the performance on the main stage. The ceremony was attended by diplomats from Indian Consulate in Dubai and cultural ambassadors from both India and the UAE.
It has been now officially awarded and recorded in World book of Re- cords, London and Arabian world records as the worlds largest fusion dance by doctors.
Here is the report by Dr Feroz Gaffoor, Cultural Convenor, AKMG Emirates.
Naseej - a cultural tapestry has emerged as a milestone event of AKMG Emirates encrypted in golden letters in the history of its 19 years of existence.Naseej which means inter- lacing of cultures in Arabic, a fusion dance presentation by 51 doctors from AKMG Emirates has been the talk of the town ever since it was con- ceived and staged on the prestigious Main stage of Global Village on 13th of this month.
It started off a humble plan to bring dancer doctors of all 7 regions into one platform, which was then prepped up with the idea of paying a tribute to UAE and saluting its resilience during the difficult times of pandemic by way of presenting a dance form of Ar- abic region fused with an Indian form. The project gained new momentum
when the thought that 50 doctors on a dancing platform might be the first in the world. It gave the core team the idea to submit applications for world records. Ideation team consisted of Dr Nita Salam, Dr Sajitha Prasad, Anupa- ma Pillai and record attempt coordina- tion was handled by Dr Soumya. Core team wanted to make it big and with the gracious support of Dr Sirajudeen as the Director of Medecon; got the permission to perform on the dream platform of Global Village. It was in- deed a great collective effort under the leadership and support in every step by the AKMG Emirates execu- tive team headed by The President Dr George Joseph, Secretary General Dr Safarulla Khan,Treasurer Dr Biju Ittima- ni and myself-the Cultural Convenor. With the help of Dr George Jacob as the Resources Chair, we were able to get support from Link India and Mal- abar Gold even though the expenses were way high considering the ac- creditation charges for world records and the logistics of bringing 51 people on stage.
Arabian World Records and World Book of Records London accepted our

Dr Sajith Sivaraman(Web Editor) and Dr Biju Ittimani (Central Treasurer) managed the background slides and videos for the full program with per- fection.
Singers paying tribute to the melo- dy queen out performed each other. The hard work and dedication were evident from each melodious rendi- tion of evergreen hits of the world’s Nightingale, Lataji...
Dr Nita Salam and Dr Leena coor- dinated the whole function in an exemplary manner. Dr Nita Salam proved herself a real walking ency- clopedia of music! The grand finale of
the program, MusiQuiz was extraordi- nary! The little prodigy Kalyani was a perfect choice for the finale quiz.
Orchestra was really wonderful and professional. They adjusted to even the small mistakes of novices. In short, the whole program was visually and audibly one of the best we have had.
Team Naseej was honored at the event and the record winning dance was displayed on the screen for those who missed watching it live at the Global village.
Team of Beyond the Seven Seas, an all-Doctor movie produced by Dr Ti- tus Peter and family was recognized. President of AKMG Emirates- Dr George Joseph did the audio launch of the movie.
It was indeed a great event fulfilling every aspect of the Presidents theme.

Making of
As someone said ‘work hard, have fun and make history ‘. That’s exactly what we, a group of Indian doctors set out to do.
UAE and India are two countries with very strong investment in culture of music, art and dance. Powered by this undercurrent the idea to materialize a recital liaising both cultures came to life as a tribute to UAE’s 50th year cele- brations. The rightly selected title ‘Na- seej’means intricately woven tapestry popular for its aesthetic strength. UAE is the second home for huge number of Keralite doctors some of them be-
ing even born and raised here. This fueled the enthusiasm to participate in this event against all odds.
Preliminary preparations started with identifying the dance forms and mu- sic to synchronize the feel and es- sence of both countries. Khaleeji the folk dance of UAE was merged with Ghoomar , a dance form of Indian desert. The similarity in both these dance forms were the instrumental beats and the rhythmic use of hands and feet in graceful flowing motion. Tempo of both the dances matched seamlessly and the grace, composure
and poise were replicated for NASEEJ under the guidance of popular dance exponent Ms. Anupama Pillai.
The major challenge rose in coordi- nating the time and availability of fifty doctors from the seven emirates of UAE to learn and practice the dance. Twenty-five doctors each performed khaleeji and ghoomar separately and then presented a finale with both groups dancing in unison. Like the saying ‘when the going gets tough, the tough get going’ these doctors practiced long hours relentlessly after their hospital duties for two months. These efforts finally were showcased on the global village stage and went on to win two prestigious world re- cords.

Life is unpredictable. Death sweeps in unannounced and uninvited and takes away a beloved forever! Still can’t come to terms that my dear friend is no more.....
Sageer was a passionate and caring FRIEND. We have been friends for more than a quarter of a century now. More than a friend, he had become a broth- er for me and Smitha.
By Dr Hanish Babu
Dr Sageer was respected and held in high stature by his patients and col- leagues alike. An astute clinician, a successful entrepreneur and a mod- el administrator, all rolled into one, his personality radiated strength and charisma to all near and dear to him.
Sageer was a straight forward per- son: very bold and candid. He never cringed from standing up and fight- ing for what he believed in. Whatever
be the topic under discussion, he al- ways had a well analysed opinion to offer. A confirmed rationalist, he was critical of outdated establishments and beliefs. He did not mince words just to satisfy peers, but was always kind and considerate to the less priv- ileged.
Sageer’s passion for travelling is well known. We have travelled to around 21 countries together. Members of our

work in the background without ven- turing onto the stage! The only time we could get him onstage was in Bur- kha during a family get-together long time back!
He will be deeply missed by every- one who has known him. For me it is a great personal loss. It is hard to believe he has left us forever. It is true that he has enjoyed life to its full- est but knowing him, I am sure that he still would have loved to explore more avenues of life. And, that is what hurts. He left peacefully, but too early! There were lots of exciting plans and countries in his bucket list. We will definitely keep his memories alive, more so during our travels ahead....
Our deepest condolences to Nasru, sons, daughter in law, his mother, and above all, to Buji’s darling Dora........It was a treat to watch the grandfather and granddaughter who dotted on each other: there was an aura of ex- traordinary bond between them....... My heart goes out to li’l Duaakutty. Hope she can overcome the irrepa- rable loss and bear the grief of losing her Buji so early in life.....
You will always remain with us, Sageer...
For love itself lives on,
And cherished memories never fade Because a loved one’s gone.
Those we love can never be More than a thought apart, For as long as there is memory, You’ll live on in the heart.........
Adieu, dear friend.
travel gang, which was his brain child, will fondly remember our sojourns to- gether. Right from the planning stage till we landed back, dear Sageer will be in the forefront to plan each and every step of the tours. Our travels will never be the same without him......
I, probably, have the privilege of tak- ing most of his pictures during these travels. But his camera was always trained on a single person: his beloved Nasru. It is very difficult to see a more passionate and loving couple. Both of them were perfect hosts. Staying in the same building as Sageer and Nas- ru had its own advantages. Anytime something special is cooked, Nasru will sent a portion down to us.
Sageer’s contribution to the success of the cultural activities of AKMG Emirates Region 2 is immense. His role in deciding the theme, the sto- ryline and his keen direction played a major role when Region 2 bagged the overall championship during the 2007 Dubaicon and 2008 Ajman Me- decon AKMG Conventions... Months before each convention, we, along with Dr Jamal and Dr Jayaram and a few others, will sit late into the night discussing, writing and rewriting the scripts and dialogues......
Though he was the brain behind the success of the Cultural programmes in Ajman, Sageer always stayed away from limelight. He was content to

HOPE
Whenever I feel broken, You show me the token, The token is hope in life, You fulfil your promise.
Hope – A feeling from my birth,
You give me a rebirth in this earth, When the rays of hope spotlights me, I perform something impossible.
In hope, I do not fear,
And there would not be tear, You help me survive,
In turn I survive my life.
Thank you for helping me, And the bonus is you are free, You are essential in life, Because I have many slopes.
