Present Continuous หรือ Present Progressive Tense คือ
Tense ที่ใช้พูดถึงเรื่องที่กำลังเกิดขึ้นและดำเนินอยู่ในปัจจุบัน
อย่างที่เรารู้ว่า present แปลว่า ปัจจุบัน
ส่วนcontinuous/progressive แปลว่า ดำเนินอย่างต่อเนื่อง ดังนั้น
Tense นี้จึงเป็นการบอกเล่าสิ่งที่กำลังเกิดขึ้นอยู่ในปัจจุบัน
EXAMPLE!
Kat is watching a movie.
แคทกำลังดูหนัง
I am running in the park.
ฉันกำลังวิ่งอยู่ในสวนสาธารณะ
I am doing my homework.
ฉันกำลังทำการบ้าน
Pim is riding her bike to the market.
พิมกำลังขี่จักรยานไปตลาด

Present continuous tense มีโครงสร้างที่เรียบง่าย
ซึ่งก็คือ “is/am/are + กริยารูป -ing” โดยการเลือกใช้
is/am/are นั้น จะต้องเลือกตามพจน์ของประธาน ซึ่งได้แก่
คำว่า is ใช้กับประธานที่เป็นเอกพจน์ (มีจำนวนหนึ่ง
หน่วย) เช่น He is eating.
คำว่า am ใช้กับ I เท่านั้น เช่น I am eating.
คำว่า are ใช้กับ you และประธานที่เป็นพหูพจน์ (มี
จำนวนมากกว่าหนึ่งหน่วย) เช่น They are eating.
การใช้ present continuous tense จะมีประเด็นหลักๆ ได้แก่
1. กล่าวถึงสิ่งที่กำลังทำอยู่หรือดำเนินอยู่ในขณะนี้
2. กล่าวถึงสิ่งที่กำลังทำอยู่หรือดำเนินอยู่ในช่วงนี้
แม้ว่าอาจจะไม่ได้ทำในชั่วขณะที่พูด
3. กล่าวถึงสถานการณ์หรือสิ่งชั่วคราวที่ดำเนินอยู่ในปัจจุบัน
4. กล่าวถึงสิ่งที่จะทำหรือจะเกิดขึ้นในอนาคต
ซึ่งได้ถูกวางแผนไว้แล้ว
5. กล่าวถึงสิ่งเชิงลบที่เกิดขึ้นซ้ำซาก มักใช้กับคำว่า
always, constantly, forever

Present Continuous ใช้เมื่อไหร่ดี?
1. ใช้กับเหตุการณ์ที่กำลังเกิดขึ้น สามารถมี Adverb of Time
หรือคำกำกับเวลาในประโยค เช่น
Now ตอนนี้
Right now ตอนนี้
At the moment ในตอนนี้
Still ยังคง
Currently ตอนนี้
2. ใช้พูดถึงเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นเป็นประจำมาอย่างยาวนาน หรือ
เกิดขึ้นบ่อยจนเกินไป (รู้สึกในทางลบ) มักจะใช้กับคำเหล่านี้
Constantly อย่างต่อเนื่อง
Always ตลอด
This week สัปดาห์นี้
This month เดือนนี้
This year ปีนี้
3. ใช้กับเหตุการณ์ที่จะเกิดขึ้นแน่นอนในอนาคตอันใกล้
มักมีคำกำกับเวลา

กริยาที่ใช้กับ Present Continuous ไม่ได้
1. กริยาที่ใช้แสดงความรู้สึก เช่น
believe - เชื่อว่า remember - จำได้
love - รัก know - รู้
feel - รู้สึก see - เห็น, เข้าใจ
suppose - สมมติว่า like - ชอบ
imagine - นึกคิด dislike - ไม่ชอบ
hate - เกลียด think - คิดว่า
want - อยาก,ต้องการ prefer - ชอบมากกว่า
2. กริยาที่เกี่ยวกับประสาทสัมผัสทั้ง 5 เช่น
appear ปรากฏ
hear ได้ยิน
look ดูเหมือนว่า
seem ดูเหมือนว่า
smell ได้กลิ่น
taste รู้รส
3. กริยาที่ใช้แสดงความเป็นเจ้าของ เช่น
