pole​ ​vault.​ ​His​ ​vault​ ​of​ 1​ 4’​ 0​ ”​ ​was​ e​ nough​ ​for​ t​ he​ ​silver​ a​ t​ t​ he
state​ ​meet.​ T​ he​ f​ ollowing​ ​year​ h​ e​ w​ as​ ​3rd​ ​with​ a​ ​ v​ ault​ o​ f​ ​13’
6”.​ L​ ucas​ w​ as​ ​a​ ​pioneer​ ​for​ ​the​ ​track​ ​and​ ​field​ ​program.​ K​ ihei

and​ ​Field​ C​ hampionships.​ I​ n​ ​2014​ s​ he​ w​ as​ ​the​ ​quadruple​ g​ old

medalist​ o​ f​ ​the​ M​ IL​ ​JV​ ​Championships​ ​in​ t​ he​ h​ igh​ ​jump​ (​ 4’

● The​ ​track​ ​has​ ​eight​ l​ anes​ f​ or​ ​running​ e​ vents,​ ​two​ j​ ump​ p​ its,​ h​ igh​ ​jump​ a​ nd​ ​pole​ ​vault.​ ​The​ s​ hot​ ​put​ a​ nd
discus​ a​ re​ t​ hrown​ ​at​ a​ djacent​ f​ ields,​ ​and​ m​ oved​ ​to​ t​ he​ ​field​ ​at​ ​War​ M​ emorial​ d​ uring​ ​championship
season.

● Practice​ i​ s​ M​ onday​ ​through​ ​Thursday​ 3​ :15-5.​ ​Regardless​ o​ f​ t​ he​ ​van​ ​or​ i​ f​ a​ thletes​ ​are​ l​ ate​ w​ e​ w​ ill​ ​still
start​ p​ ractice​ ​at​ 3​ :15.

● What​ y​ ou​ n​ eed​ ​for​ p​ ractice​ ​is​ w​ ater,​ r​ unning​ ​shoes,​ ​comfortable​ ​athletic​ ​gear,​ c​ hange​ o​ f​ c​ lothing,​ ​and
optional​ ​is​ a​ ​ ​snack.

part​ ​of​ ​Matt’s​ l​ ife​ ​for​ ​the​ l​ ast​ ​20​ ​years,​ ​and​ h​ is​ ​knowledge​ o​ f​ ​the​ ​sport​ ​on​ a​

Cristina​ ​Pineda​ ​has​ ​been​ ​on​ M​ aui​ ​since​ 2​ 005.​ S​ he​ ​is​ f​ rom​ ​New​ ​Mexico
originally,​ a​ nd​ ​has​ ​been​ i​ nvolved​ ​in​ a​ thletics​ s​ ince​ m​ iddle​ s​ chool.​ ​She
coached​ m​ iddle​ s​ chool,​ a​ nd​ ​assisted​ ​at​ ​a​ h​ igh​ ​school​ b​ efore​ c​ oming​ t​ o​ ​Kihei
Charter.​ ​Cristina​ c​ an​ a​ lso​ ​be​ ​found​ ​running​ ​5K​ r​ aces​ ​here​ ​and​ t​ here,​ a​ nd​ i​ s
landscaper​ a​ nd​ ​substitute​ t​ eacher.​ C​ ristina​ w​ ill​ c​ oach​ ​the​ h​ urdles,​ a​ nd​ ​high
jump.​ C​ ristina​ ​is​ t​ he​ m​ ain​ a​ dministrator​ ​for​ t​ he​ t​ eam​ ​and​ w​ orks​ ​with​ ​parents
on​ ​hosting​ ​a​ ​meet​ ​during​ ​the​ s​ eason.

Assistant​ ​Coach
Cassie​ ​Kepler​ ​is​ ​a​ ​Baldwin​ g​ rad​ w​ ho​ c​ ontinues​ ​to​ c​ ontribute​ ​to​ t​ he​ c​ ommunity
by​ c​ oaching​ ​running​ a​ t​ ​Kihei​ C​ harter​ ​for​ ​five​ y​ ears​ ​now.​ S​ he​ i​ s​ ​the​ h​ ead
coach​ o​ f​ ​Cross​ C​ ountry,​ ​and​ i​ s​ A​ ssistant​ C​ oach​ ​for​ T​ rack​ ​and​ ​Field.​ C​ assie​ i​ s
also​ ​an​ ​avid​ ​runner,​ a​ nd​ ​has​ ​competed​ ​from​ ​5K​ ​up​ t​ o​ t​ he​ 3​ 6​ ​mile​ ​Run​ ​to​ t​ he
Sun.​ ​She​ i​ s​ a​ lso​ a​ ​ b​ lack​ ​belt​ ​in​ ​Taekwondo,​ a​ nd​ h​ as​ ​two​ s​ ons​ P​ ohaku​ a​ nd
Josh.​ ​Cassie​ ​will​ w​ ork​ ​with​ C​ oaches​ M​ att​ ​and​ ​Cristina​ ​on​ s​ trength​ ​and
conditioning,​ a​ nd​ ​assist​ C​ ristina​ w​ ith​ ​high​ j​ ump,​ ​and​ h​ urdles.​ ​Cassie​ w​ ill​ ​work
the​ ​social​ ​media​ ​sharing​ ​side​ o​ f​ t​ he​ t​ eam​ w​ ith​ l​ inks​ ​to​ ​results,​ ​and​ ​videos​ o​ f
meets.

John​ ​Fitzpatrick,​ ​a​ g​ raduate​ f​ rom​ ​St.​ ​Anthony​ p​ layed​ ​football​ a​ nd​ ​participated
in​ ​the​ t​ hrows​ ​for​ T​ rack​ ​in​ ​Field​ ​when​ i​ n​ h​ igh​ s​ chool.​ H​ e​ ​has​ ​a​ p​ assion​ f​ or
athletics,​ ​and​ i​ s​ t​ he​ a​ thletic​ ​director​ f​ or​ K​ ihei​ ​Charter.​ ​Fitz​ ​as​ h​ e​ ​is​ k​ nown​ ​is
also​ a​ ​ ​boat​ c​ aptain,​ a​ nd​ ​loves​ ​to​ ​camp,​ ​and​ h​ ave​ ​fun​ w​ indsurfing​ ​and​ ​stand
up​ ​paddling​ w​ hen​ h​ e’s​ n​ ot​ ​flying​ h​ is​ d​ rone​ t​ o​ ​film​ ​cross​ ​country​ m​ eets.​ ​Coach
