The WRCC Golf Committee Newsletter

“WE WANT TO MAKE THIS THE GOLF COURSE, WHERE PEOPLE DESIRE TO PLAY”

Why have I been so scarce? I have had an exceptional busy time at work and ended it off with
attending the recent Bored Room Tour. I am looking forward to seeing you again at the club and
have a drink towards good health!

Our Golf Course

The compliments have been flowing in about our greens and the general state of our course.
th
to the Greens Committee and all staff!! Please take note that the trench on the left of the 13 will
be a GUR until the grass has grown back.

I again urge you all not to use the golf course for cycling purposes. We have unfortunately had incidents
were we have found our flags taken of the green and planted in other areas. The flagsticks have also been
vandalised. I am sure it is some youngsters who are out there being mischievous, but damaging property is
just not on.

Announcements

The incident that took place at Nelspruit Golf Course is just that, an Incident. Please refrain from being
dragged into negative conversation about any of the rumours. We wish them well in their endeavour to
resolve the incident in the most amicable manner and I am sure they would have done the same for our
club.

Please take note that the Caddy/Spotter fees have been increased to R170 + R40 half-way.

Please see the new local rule on “Ready” Golf on the Local Rules noticeboard!

We wish Sandy Marais and Russell Pascoe good luck with their participation in the Finals of the Windhoek
Lager Challenge!! Play well and make us all proud!!

****

Rounds

Well, we made 20,018 rounds and we were 2028 rounds behind budget. This relates to an estimated loss of
income of +/- R350,000.00. This is purely based on an assumption that all the rounds were paid for and that
it would not have been made up from the unlimited or debenture golfers.

The new budget is 21,086 rounds. Yes, it shows an increase in rounds and if we do not reach this, our
beloved Golf Course could feel the economic pinch even harder.

So what does it mean for us as members?

25 May 2017

We should play more golf, invite a friend to play AND get more members to join our club. Yes it is as
simple as that and I believe all of the members will make a concerted effort to assist us as a Golf
Committee to reach the budget goal.

th
On the 13 May 2017 Riverside Park City Improvement District was once again the sponsor for
the Better Ball competition. This coincided with the annual Potch – Jeppe – Pretoria Milner

Trophy Challenge. It was a freezing & rainy day, but the die hard golfers stuck it out and finished

all 18. Rumor has it that it was only due to the consumption of OBS that helped them complete
the round of golf. Well Done to all who completed their rounds.

25 May 2017

Congratulations

to Pretoria Boys High for winning the annual Milner Trophy challenge. Potch Boys

High had the best spirit and Jeppe Boys High had the best “Tattoo”. This story is

only privileged to those who attended.

We want to convey our sincerest thank you to

Pretoria Boys High, Potch Boys High, Jeppe Boys

High, Tuesday School, Knittex & Tommy Rogers for

God and St Peter Decided on a Round of Golf in Heaven Golf Hole

Peter is a testament to material values, decked out as he is in the latest golf
fashion, with a brand new set of clubs and all the accoutrements.

God, in contrast, is a picture of virtue wearing his old gardening clothes and
trailing a tatty old canvas bag with a real mixture of ancient and rusting clubs,
some of which even have hickory shafts.

On the first hole St Peter smacks a beauty 275 yards straight down the middle.

God, however, tops his drive that trickles along the ground.

It only travels about 70 yards but just before it's about to stop a rabbit runs out
of the gorse, grabs the ball in its mouth and hurtles off down the fairway while St
Peter watches in astonishment.

Before the rabbit can reach safety, however, a magnificent eagle swoops down
and snares the rabbit in its talons before rising majestically, the rabbit still
struggling in its grasp but defiantly holding the golf ball in its mouth.

As the eagle soars over the green a bolt of a lightning from a clear blue sky
strikes it, killing the bird instantly. It drops the rabbit, which in turn drops the
golf ball, which strikes a sprinkler head at the side of the green and takes one
bounce straight into the hole for an ace on a par-5 hole.

St Peter slowly turns and says to God: 'Are you going to show off all day or are
we here to play golf?'
