1.1 INTRODUCTION
Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language,
religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. Defining culture as shared patterns of behaviors and
interactions, cognitive constructs and understanding that are learned by socialization. It can be seen as
the growth of a group identity fostered by social patterns unique to the group. Culture encompasses
religion, food, what we wear, how we wear it, our language, marriage, music, what we believe is right or
wrong, how we sit at the table, how we greet visitors, how we behave with loved ones, and a million
other things, Therefore, DUP5 students will hold a program related to culture. The following program is
a program that has been conducted by DUP 5 students named "Green Day" Tourism Program in
collaboration with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia UKM and Homestay Kampung Salong. This program
will be implemented by DUP5 students on 11/06/2021 to 13/06/2021 located in Pekan, Pahang The
purpose of this program is to show or present the culture in the area to students so that we can learn
about the culture there by ourselves.
1.2 BACKGROUND OF STUDY AREA
Homestay is a popular form of hospitality and lodging whereby visitors share a residence with a local of the
city. At our covering area, we choose homestay Kampung Salong that been hosted by e PPSK FELCRA Berhad.
A well organized village in the State of Pahang which has incorporated 8 traditional villages around it. It is located
7o KM from Bandar Diraja Pekan and 85 KM from Bandar Kuantan. The village is close to Sungai Pahang, FELDA
Chini Cluster, Tasik Lagenda Chini and the road that connects directly to Bandar Temerloh. The village is rich in
traditional practices, community friendliness and natural conditions.

TASIK CHINI
in Pekan District, Pahang, Malaysia.
The lake shores are inhabited by the Jakun branch of the Orang Asli.
The 12,565-acre Tasik Chini is the second largest fresh water lake in
Peninsular Malaysia
The river is dammed to maintain the lake's depth during the dry season.
Tasik Chini is one of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status sites in Peninsular
Malaysia
SULTAN located in Pekan, Pahang, Malaysia.
ABDULLAH
MOSQUE It was officially opened in 1976 by Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang replacing the
nearby Abdullah Mosque or Old Royal Mosque
The Abdullah Mosque was constructed in Moorish style and was the principle
mosque in Pekan for performing Friday prayers from 1932 until 1976.
II. INTANGIBLE TOURISM RESOURCES

FOOD - Tempoyak catfish pie is a traditional Pahang dish that is hard to forget. In
addition, the deliciousness is so obvious when the sweetness of catfish
PAIS IKAN marinated with tempoyak can be felt. It is delicious eaten with white rice or
TEMPOYAK can be cooked just like that.
- The yellow color of this royal pudding cake is quite eye -catching. Golden
PUDING DIRAJA yellow coupled with colorful by -products such as raisins, cherries, nuts and
so on definitely make this dish a popular choice as a dessert.
ZAPIN PEKAN - Tarian ni ada tiga peringkat. Peringkat pertama, permulaan tarian atau
pembukaan tarian. Peringkat kedua ialah pecahan atau gerak serta
lenggang tari dan peringkat ketiga merupakan peringkat akhir iaitu sebagai
penutup tarian.Zapin begitu popular pada tahun-tahun lima puluhan dan
enam puluhan di daerah Pekan terutamanya di Kampung Tanjung Gemuk
dan Kampung Lamir. Tarian zapin biasanya ditarikan dalam majlis-majlis
perkahwinan dan majlis keramaian. Anak-anak muda menjadi penggiat
utama dalam tarian zapin ini kerana mereka mempunyai tenaga dan
keupayaan menari dalam rentak yang cepat.Alat muzik utama yang
digunakan dalam tarian ini ialah gambus, rebana, gendang dan
marakas.Anatara lagu2 berirama asli yang didendangkan mengikut irama
zapin ialah lagu2 Lancang Kuning, Zapin Asli, Gendang Rebana dan lain2
lagi.

PEKAN ZAPIN DANCE Zapin dance exhibition is a kind of traditional
JOGET PAHANG Malay folk dance. This dance, which is originally
KOMPANG believed to be from Arabia, features a faster
movement and does not have many floral steps.
Zapin Pekan is believed to have been introduced
around the district of Pekan, Pahang by a songkok
craftsman from Sumatra named Adam in the
1930s. Zapin Pekan dance is a performance or
show dance. The dance moves are based on the
steps of the dancer. Although this dance comes
from the Arab-Persian, but in terms of costume
dancers wear traditional clothing more
Joget dance is the most popular dance in
Malaysia. The origin of this joget dance is
said to be related to the elements of
Portuguese dance that have been introduced
in Melaka since the era of the spice trade.
This dance is used as a social dance and
accepted by various races in Malaysia. dance.
The silat performance is usually held at the
silat court, at wedding ceremonies as well as
ceremonies attended by prominent people,
and is still practiced today.
Kompang is classified under the percussion group
of musical instruments and is the most popular
traditional music instrument among the Malay
community. This instrument originated from the
Arab world and is believed to have been brought
into Malaya either during the reign of the
Malacca Sultanate by the Indian Muslim traders,
or through Java Island, Indonesia by Arabian
traders in the 13th century.
GAMELAN SONG Malay gamelan music is familiar among people in
WAU PUNGGUK this country over the years. The art of music is
said to have been born in Jawa, Indonesia. Malay
debut at Istana Pahang in the 19th century during
the reign of Sultan tech savvy. During its
development more than 60 songs were made but
almost half of them are said to have disappeared
just like that. Of the remaining 30 songs, only 12
are still played to date.
This kite originates from Pahang and starts from
Pekan. According to the stories of the ancients,
wau pungguk was first played during the reign of
the third Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Abdullah
alMu’tassim Billah Shah.

4.1 Tourism Image for Homestay Kg Baru Salong
Cultural tourism is a type of tourism activity in which the visitor’s essential motivation is to learn,
discover, experience and consume the tangible and intangible cultural attractions/products in a
tourism destination. These attractions/products relate to a set of distinctive material, intellectual,
spiritual and emotional features of a society that encompasses arts and architecture, historical and
cultural heritage, culinary heritage, literature, music, creative industries and the living cultures with
their lifestyles, value systems, beliefs and traditions.According to the definition adopted by the
UNWTO General Assembly, at its 22nd session (2017), Cultural Tourism implies “A type of tourism
activity in which the visitor’s essential motivation is to learn, discover, experience and consume the
tangible and intangible cultural attractions/products in a tourism destination. These
attractions/products relate to a set of distinctive material, intellectual, spiritual and emotional features
of a society that encompasses arts and architecture, historical and cultural heritage, culinary
heritage, literature, music, creative industries and the living cultures with their lifestyles, value
systems, beliefs and traditions”.
4.1.1 Destination Management Lake Chini is blessed with vast treasures of nature, which
Authenticity is rich in biological resources. There are 138 species of
territorial flora, 300 species of non-aquatic vertebrates and
Education 144 species of freshwater fish. Thousand of white and pink
water lilies will emerge on the lake from August through
September, transforming the lake into a floating multi-
coloured garden. On the fringe of the lake, especially at
Kampung Gumum, there is a large concentration of the
aborigines of the Jakun tribe. They still live their old
traditional ways and fine woodcarvings and blowpipes are
available to visitors. The most famous legends among
local folks is they believe that the mysterious lake is
guarded by a Loch Ness type monster named Naga Sri
Gumum. There were reports of occasional sightings of the
monster but unfortunately they were not scientifically
proven.

see an experienced beekeeper makes an appearance during
one of the demonstrations, collecting raw honey from
beehives whilst being surrounded by thousands of flying

Cooking Puding Diraja
The making of Puding Diraja is one of the best enjoyment
that we expericence when at the Homestay Kampung
Salong. The enjoyment of learning the dish that were pass
down generation to generation was an honor to learn from
them. It's one of the iconic dishes or dessert that we learn
to make. Not only we learn about the dish but also
enjoying the dish itself the taste of the iconic Pekan dessert
were one of the best enjoyment we had so far at Homestay
Kampung Salong.
Jungle Trekking local jungle
Morning we had a jungle trekking at the nearby forest
which got a lot of interesting thing whithin the jungle. The
track take us about an 30 minutes walk of uneven terrain
that were many obststical front of us. One of the obstical is
walk thru the river, climb over a falling tree and much
more. The experience is the one of the memorable thing
that we all can't forgot. The hospitality that we given by
the host were amazing and also the nature that makes it the
most memorable experience ever!

designed to be visited by many visitors in order to
attract all visitors. For example, in an adventurous
mood, try out some of the challenging off-road
driving routes that'll through the jungle and

Interpretive signs are static objects in a dynamic
environment. For example the sign, panel,
information board is competing with the
environment, sunshine, rain, flora and fauna.
Visitors must feel that reading these signs is worth
the effort. Kampung Baru Salong have all things
complete.
To maintain effective personal hygiene when
working with food as per establishment
requirements. In a food business it is really
important, as you know, to provide food which is
safe to eat. As a food handler this is your
responsibility. If want to have happy customers
who return again and again to your establishment,
there are some simple rules which must be
followed to maintain food safety. So should
