HOW WE BECOME STRONGER WHEN WE ARE FACED WITH DIFFICULT TIMES IN
LIFE
Many people often say life is short. Is that true?
There is no denying that it is indeed short as health minister
Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said that Harvard University
conducted a study on the life expectancy of the Malaysian
population and stated that the average life expectancy of
men in this country is 73 years and women are 79 years.
But in these short periods of time, we often play with a lot of emotions because there are a lot
of happy things and challenges that we must face. Day by day, time by time has passed,
difficult times in life become synonymous and familiar to us. These difficult times will certainly
have an impact on our lives. Steve Jobs, an American business magnate once said
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward.
So, you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in
something; your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down,
and it has made all the difference in my life”.
Difficult times in life will make us stronger because it teaches us to think more positively, be
more contented and not-to-forgot, it builds our self-confidence.
From the article “Hard Times Can Make You
stronger and More Successful” written by Matthew
Royse (2020), we become stronger when we are faced
with difficult times in life because it teaches us to think
more positively. If we have failed in facing hard times, it
may weaken our fighting spirit to move on. Therefore,
let’s looking at the bright side, failure is actually taught us to become stronger because we got
one so many new experiences while facing the obstacles and difficult times in life. As we know,
experience is the best teacher, so, we will obviously learn from it and become stronger in
facing the difficult times in the future. For example, as a student, if there is an assignment that
is not accepted by the teacher, it becomes a question mark for us why our assignment is
rejected and needs to be improved. Surely this question will not be left hovering in our mind.
We will definitely find a solution by asking teachers, friends and doing some research. When
the task has been repaired, it shows that the first failure when it was once rejected turns to a
success and after all, it's becoming a point of strength for us to be stronger in facing difficult
situations in the future.
Besides, hard times will teach us to be more contented
and stop complaining. We definitely cannot escape the
challenges in life. Want it or not, we must deal with it. When we
are facing difficult times, we are actually deserve help and
support no matter in terms of the physical or mental from others.
Usually, help is requested from a close contact because it is
more pleasant to us. As for an example, when we have a fever,
surely many things cannot be done because it is limited to our
health, and we will ask for help from others such as family members and close friends. But we
should be prepared for any possibility that no one wants to give their hands to help us. They
may have obstacles to help but some do not intend to help even if they are our close contacts.
Therefore, stop complaining and find a way out even if no one wants to help us. Remember
that Eleanor Roosevelt, a Former First Lady of the United States once said, “Great minds
discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people". Stand on your
feet without complaints because no one is helping. In summary, tough times will make us
contented and stop complaining and even make us stronger.
Moreover, we become stronger when faced with
difficult times because it will build our self-confidence.
Sometimes when we are in the hard times, we are
forced to do things we have never done before. For
example, if we as an employee at a company suddenly
need to replace another colleague and given
responsibility for making a presentation session in front of the great and famous figures, then
we will definitely face some anxiety and pressure to deal with situations that have never been
experienced before. Nevertheless, we still need to continue with the presentation as we have
been entrusted by the superiors. That's where we learn to increase self-confidence. Amanda
Raye, a musical artist ever said, “Self-love and believing in yourself gives you the power and
courage to change your life”. Believing in ourselves is the key in whatever we do, and it makes
us as flexible people. Difficult times can also increase our self-confidence because we believe
that we are able to face challenges in life as well as we have faced before. In conclusion, we
will be stronger when faced with difficult times because it builds up our confident level.
As the conclusion, we become stronger when we face difficult times in life because it
teaches us to think more positively, become contented and stop complaining and build our
self-confidence. No one disputes those hard times are part of the process of life. Let’s live a
good life as Mary Tyler Moore, a great singer once said “Take chances, make mistakes. That’s
how you grow. Pain nourishes your courage. You have to fail in order to practice being brave”.
Based on those words, it can be concluded that failure or mistake is not something to be
ashamed of, but it is very important and necessary in making us stronger in living a great life.
But when we have succeeded, let us not underestimate others. We need to help those who
are facing difficult times in their life by giving them moral support such as words that came
from Amanda Raye, a musical artist, “Don’t feel defeated if your dreams didn’t work out. It took
courage to try and take the risk. That’s something to be proud of”.
