ADDRESS
Dear Colleagues,
The Hellenic Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery, after the successful organization of the 1st
Advanced Course on Open and Laparoscopic Surgery and 2nd Advanced Course on Robotic
and Laparoscopic Surgery that took place in the Laboratory of Anatomy of School of Medicine
of Faculty of Health Sciences of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, has decided to continue
the postgraduate training courses and top expand the Robotic Surgery to other Surgery
specialties and to include also Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Skull base and Craniocervical
Junction Surgery and Dental Implant insertions. These Courses take place annually on fresh
frozen cadavers with the contribution of the Head of the Anatomy Laboratory, Professor
Konstantinos Natsis.
Due to the high cost of these courses, numerous surgical specialties will participate such
as general and thoracic surgeons, gynaecologists, urologists, neurosurgeons, vascular,
maxillofacial surgeon and dentists.
The 1st hands-on training course on laparoscopic, thoracoscopic, and open surgery of the
abdomen, chest, spine, hips and plastic surgery was held on January 2013 with great
success. The trainees as well as the trainers were very satisfied with the excellent quality of
the performed operations that simulated virtual patients.
The 2nd hands-on training course on robotic and laparoscopic surgery held on January 2015
with an additional innovation. All abdominal operations carried out laparoscopically, or with
the use of the Da Vinci robotic system. The fourth day all the participants, both trainers and
trainees, took part in the practice of Surgical Anatomy under the supervision of the Anatomy
Laboratory staff. The 2nd course has greater success and the trainees were very satisfied.
The 3rd hands on training course on robotic and laparoscopic surgery will be held in
Thessaloniki on 21-25 January 2015. All thoracic and abdominal operations will be carried
out laparoscopically, or with the use of the Da Vinci robotic system. A great emphasis will
be given to all performed operations in terms of accuracy and surgical anatomical structures
recognition through the aspect of the new technological instrumentation (laparoscopically -
robotic assisted-Surgical microscope –C-arm), conducted by skilled and experienced trainers
from Greece as well as from other countries. The fifth day all the participants, both trainers
and trainees, will take part in the practice of Surgical Anatomy under the supervision of the
Anatomy Laboratory staff. On Wednesday 21st of January will be offered for hands on Da
Vinci robotic system practice.
The official language of the course will be English.
I hope and believe that this innovative post-graduate program will be carried out with success
and will significantly contribute to the surgical training of surgeons, covering a wide range
of specialties.
