HOLLI B.TOWNSEND
PRESIDENT
Dear DC Peals III Foundation III Board of Directors , Members, and Supporters,
Thank you for making 2019 an impactful and uplifting experience. As President of the DC Pearls III
Foundation, I am pleased to share the 2019 accomplishments in the 2019 annual report. Because of
what you, our donors, have given, more African Americans students will have scholarships every
year. We can send the best and brightest to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)
all over the United States. Put simply: you are creating opportunities and improving lives. The
report will highlight the success of our programs, services and financial status.
During this time, we have been able to strengthen our program platform and widen our impact.
We’ve given over $24,000 in scholarships, increased growth in crowdfunding efforts, exceeded our
collection goal for Soles for Soles, supported Bright Beginning's Food Pantry feeding over 60
families, and making an impact by supporting our black businesses is all part of us driving forward
to change lives. Our fundraising strategies were expanded to include the Combined Federal
Campaign (CFC), coupled with increased giving efforts to Amazon Smile, DC One Fund, DoMore24,
and Giving Tuesday. The ability to receive general donations via our donor management software
has also contributed to an increase in support. We were very successful with our 2019 Pink Satin
Pearls, Pearl Ball Cotillion, Treasured Pearl Package raffle, and our Jazz Brunch Auction.
We’re All In: Empowered & Engaged to Fundraise as members of DC Pearls III Foundation. We
should be inspired by our ability to raise funds in support of our growing scholarship and program
demands. And as a result, your DC Pearls III Board of Directors worked tirelessly to meet the
foundation goals and expectations of its members by implementing and continuing
the following initiatives:
hosting a DC Pearls III board orientation training focused on outlining the role/responsibilities of
the Board of Directors,
continuing to provide communications via face to face meetings along with a technology
connection option to increase meeting attendance,
expanding our ability to increase multiple funding streams by applying for grants and exploring
endowments option and
exploring the possibility of acquiring a building.
I would like to thank the Foundation Board members for your generous donations, community
involvement and partnerships we have gained over the past year. Thanks to you, we can continue
to build upon the foundation that was created 19 years ago and make a lasting impact within the
Washington, DC community. Thank you for you continued support and dedication!
Sincerely,
Holli Townsend
SAUNDRA R. ROBERTS
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dear Foundation Members,
It gives me great pleasure to report that 2019 has been another fantastic year thanks to your
dedication and support of DC Pearls III’s efforts to support the community through our primary
partnership with Rho Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. ©
Our mission to sponsor community services programs and award college scholarships was
funded by four events this year. We hosted our 6th Biennial Pearl Ball Cotillion, our 3rd season for
the Pink Satin Pearls, our 2nd Treasured Pearl Raffle and, as always, our annual Jazz Brunch
Auction will allow us to end 2019 with fun, food and fellowship. A member sponsored fundraiser
event marketed as the Kids Graffiti Art also provided funding. Lastly, we also participated in
raising funds online via DoMore24, AmazonSmile, the DC One Fund, Giving Tuesday and
expanded the list this year by adding the Combined Federal Campaign.
We were very active and engaged in our fundraising activities. One contributing factor to our
success is the investment in a donor management platform with has provided the great benefit of
streamlining financial operations and providing us the opportunity to build a stronger partnership
with our donors. Another contributing factor of our success has been open and interactive
communications with our members through monthly meetings, workshop presentations,
committee meetings, and sharing routine and pertinent information through every communication
channel available.
It needs to be said that the greatest contribution to our success is the steadfast commitment of
our Board of Directors and Foundation Members. DC Pearls III has benefited the most from the
diverse skills and creative talents of our members which allows us to uplift and sustain the
Washington, DC community with unparalleled community services. As your Executive Director, I
am honored and humbled to serve along with you.
DC Pearls III Foundation, Inc. is positioned well for an even better 2020. We look forward to
sponsoring the community service programs for Rho Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc. © We are proud to have the opportunity to increase our level of scholarships
awarded to deserving Washington, DC high school seniors who are entering college for their first
year and for past recipients who are continuing their matriculation.
We look forward to celebrating our 20th anniversary in 2020 and encourage you to stay
empowered and engaged!
Best Regards,
Saundra Roberts
