2018 Florida Law Enforcement Traffic
Safety Challenge Training and Recogni-
tion Event

This year’s event was Thursday, July 12 and
Friday July 13, 2018, at Renaissance SeaWorld
Orlando, FL.

The Florida Law Enforcement Traffic Safety
Challenge recognizes the best overall traffic
safety programs in Florida. The areas of con-
centration include efforts to enforce traffic
safety laws and educate the public about dis-
tracted and impaired driving, motorcycle safety,
occupant protection and child passenger safety,
pedestrian and bicycle safety, speed and aggres-
sive driving, and other area issues that impact
the safety of roadway users. This challenge
supports the goal of encouraging increased
statewide enforcement of traffic safety laws to
reduce traffic crashes, serious injuries, and fa-
talities.

SAFETY AWARDS

The Traffic Safety Officer of the Year
Award is for the top traffic safety officer in
Florida. There were over one hundred
nominations for this award! The Law
Enforcement Liaison Program received
nominations from various municipal,
county, and state law enforcement agencies
who were proud to showcase their top
officer in regards to traffic safety. This year's
recipient is Officer Jennifer Stephenson of the
Homestead Police Department.

The National Law Enforcement Liaison Program (NLELP) was
created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA) and the Governors Highway Safety Association
(GHSA), funded by NHTSA under a cooperative agreement.The
purpose of the program is to enhance communications between
LELs, ensure greater coordination of LEL activities nationwide, cre-
ate and support LEL training and guidance workshops to increase
the knowledge and skills of LELs and provide technical assistance.
The NLELP is designed to strengthen the work of a proven net-
work of highway safety professionals with enhanced communica-
tions tools, updated training, sharing of best practices, exchanging
information on new research, policies, and programs, and highlight-
ing successes.

rear-ends vehicle #2. Both vehicles depart towards 0 degrees.
