Denmark Farm - ‘Inspiration for a greener world’

If you have not yet visited Denmark Farm
Conservation Centre let us share with you what
a special place it is. Denmark Farm is a forty
acre nature reserve, just 4 miles from Lampeter,
managed for wildlife with the aim of increasing
biodiversity and reconnecting people with nature.
Trails are open from dawn to dusk, 364 days of the
year, and can be enjoyed by families and nature-
lovers, young and old.
The self-guided trails take you through a variety
of habitats, and allow you to experience an
amazing array of wildlife around the site. Do not
miss the roundhouse woodland shelter, or one
of the beautiful wooden structures such as the
lakeside shelter. There is also a range of ideas
for encouraging wildlife to your garden, from
nest boxes to insect hotels and ponds to habitat
piles. The established wildlife garden and forest
garden buzz with blooms and invertebrates and the
butterfly and bee borders is filled with fragrance
and colour. More recently a WET (Wetland
Ecosystem Treatment) System for treating waste
water has been developed and a new organic
vegetable garden and greenhouse is starting to take
shape.

Transition Town | Tref Pontio

Lampeter is a Transition Town. That means we have a group of local people trying to prepare
Lampeter for the forthcoming transition from fossil fuels to renewables. All Transition Towns
have their individual plans for doing this: although there are several common themes (food,
transport, energy), there are lots of ways to work towards a thriving and resilient local
community which is less dependent on fossil fuels.
Here we have several projects which have arisen from the original Transition group. One is the
Victoria Hall which is being improved and promoted by Transition Llambed Development Trust
(a not-for-profit) as a local venue for events and a meeting place for local groups, reducing
the need to travel further afield for entertainment. We also have the People’s Market which
takes place twice monthly in the Hall: an opportunity to buy and sell locally produced foods and
crafts. And we produce the Grapevine: the local monthly magazine which keeps everyone up to
date with what’s going on in the area.
In addition to our own projects we support or work with other local groups whose goals
overlap with ours: we host the Permaculture Group’s annual seed and plant swaps and jointly
present monthly films with them, and we have supported Traws Link Cymru who campaign for
the reinstatement of the Aberystwyth to Carmarthen rail link.

A Woodland Walk - direction starting and ending at The Falcondale Hotel, Lampeter

Caution: Some parts of this walk are a little hilly.

1. From the hotel walk up the North drive past the farm (beware of the farm dogs).
Pass the cottages on your left and continue to follow the lane.
2. Before the bend in the road you will come to a field on your left with a path
signposted to the left.
3. Go over the stile and follow a green pathway alongside the field until you reach a road
at the other side. Make a sharp left and you will see another forestry path.
4. Continue going up the hill through the pine trees, past the traffic gate until you reach
a clearing. On the other side of the clearing the path continues with an incline - this
will be slippery and muddy during rainfall.
5. On reaching the top of the incline you will have a flat simple path to follow through
Longwood. Fabulous during bluebell season. On the left-hand side of this wood you can
overlook Home Farm and the surrounding areas.
6. At the end of the path you will reach a stile and a road, which is called Maestir road.
Take a left and follow the road downhill back towards Lampeter.
7. On reaching the end of the road bear left towards the Murco garage where you will
find the sign for the hotel on your left and the beginning of the South drive.«»
