UNIT 1
TASK 1
Why social media is turning into an addiction ?
·Due to the effect that it has on the brain, social media is addictive
both physically and psychologically. According to a new study by
Harvard University, self-disclosure on social networking sites lights
up the same part of the brain that also ignites when taking an
addictive substance.
·The reward area in the brain and its chemical messenger pathways
affect decisions and sensations. When someone experiences
something rewarding, or uses an addictive substance, neurons in
the principal dopamine-producing areas in the brain are activated,
causing dopamine levels to rise.
·Therefore, the brain receives a “reward” and associates the drug or
activity with positive reinforcement. It is related to the B.F Skinner
behaviorism theory.
·This is observable in social media usage; when an individual gets a
notification, such as a like or mention, the brain receives a rush of
dopamine and sends it along reward pathways, causing him or her
to feel pleasure.
·Social media provides an endless number of immediate rewards in
the form of attention from others for relatively minimal effort.
Therefore, the brain rewires itself through this positive
reinforcement, making people desire likes, retweets, and emoticon
reactions. 101

UNIT 2
TASK 1
1.IMPACT OF VIDEO GAMES ON YOUTH
PosItive Impact of video games :-
-Cognitive skills will be developed. Video games such as shooting
drills and simulation games promote and develop a wide range of
cognitive thinking which mainly includes accurate and fast decision-
making skills. Along with quick thinking, shooting games improves
the brain-hand coordination. Brain sharpening games including
puzzles and memory games largely impact the logical reasoning
skills of the player.
-Multiplayer games played using LAN servers which can connect
any number of players within a confined area. For those children
who are extremely introvert, a platform like this helps them to
interact with numerous types of people on chatbots and break the
social awkwardness.
-With cut-throat competition among the present youth, students are
increasingly confined to stay within four-walled rooms and made to
join coaching institutes at an early age. Video games hence pave
the way for such students to release their stress and freshen up
their minds.
-Famous games like DOTA, COD, Clash Of clans encourage youth
to play in groups forming either their own teams or connecting with
different people worldwide. Such multiplayer gaming sessions which
incorporates the efforts of each and every player leading to the
combined victory. This coordination requires lot of teamwork.
Negative Impacts :-
-Adolescence and children tend to get emotionally attached with
certain kind of games which in turn results in risk of aggression and
violence in them. They become extremely touchy about small issues
and don’t accept defeat easily. A sense of sportiness becomes
absent in such game addicts.
-Too much addiction can lead to negative results with the instant
drop in academic grades. ---Late night gaming sessions consume a
lot a time once it gets addictive and thus, children find it hard to cope
up with the studies in school and tuitions.
-Spending too much time in front of screens leads to weak eyesight
and chronic muscular as well as postural disorders. Apart from this,
children catch a habit of eating their meals in front of computer
screens. This, in turn, leads to obesity and lethargy.
-Around 5-6 hours are spent playing video games on PS4 and Xbox,
eats up the time which can be used by children playing outdoor
sports, socializing with the real world. This, later on, leads to
awkwardness in social gatherings and get-togethers and students
are good at public speaking and have stage fright which inhibits the
personal growth of a child.

2. E-LEARNING: A SUBSTITUTE FOR LEARNING?
In Favor:-
·Through E-learning we can study from anywhere at anytime. All we
need is just a computer and internet connection.
·E-learning costs less than classroom learning.
·Through E-learning we can continue studies while doing full – time
job.
·We can repeat the lesson for many times if we didn’t understand
the concepts.
·We can easily update new information / inventions.
·We can e-mail the doubts, and can be clarified.
·Student takes whole responsibility of himself in learning process.
So that he becomes more confident.
·Students will become more flexible with computer, which is much
essential in present generation.
·We can do the course in the university of foreign countries without
going to there.
·Students can become comfortable in face-face to conversations
which is very important in career.

2. E-LEARNING: A SUBSTITUTE FOR LEARNING?
In Against:-
Through classroom learning, we can clarify our doubts
immediately.
Through classroom learning, we can increase our presentation
skills.
Through classroom learning, we can know how to behave with
colleagues and superiors.
Teachers in classroom can know whether students understand
the topic or not, and explains the topic clearly using general
examples.
Unemployment increases, in result our nation’s GDP decreases.
106
3. SHOULD MOBILE PHONES BE ALLOWED IN SCHOOL?
Yes :-
Mobile phones are extremely potent tools and can be utilized to
a great extent in teaching at colleges.
This is especially significant for the colleges that cannot afford
modern facilities.
The wrong use of mobiles can be curbed through specific
restrictions. This way is much better than not allowing mobiles
altogether.
The idea here is that of a “Mobile Device Policy“. Teachers or
professors can enforce this policy which may contain the rules
regarding mobile usage.
Mobiles are also good at calendaring and record keeping.
Schools can create their own applications
No :-
The teachers in our schools are more familiar with using
conventional methods of teaching. In this wake, it is better not to
go with mobile phones in classes because it will be difficult to
enforce the “teacher’s discretion” rule in the class.
Mobile Phones are causing distress and disruption as people
are using phones in trains, in schools/colleges, in streets,
almost everywhere.
Apart from a small lot, majority students will easily be distracted
by the numerous attractive applications present in their phones.
Thus, resulting in a waste of time.
We are becoming slaves to mobile phones in today’s time. Even
for small calculations, students use mobiles and calculators
which is making their basics weak and also degrading their
thinking ability.

4. HAS EXAMINATIONS KILLED EDUCATION?
In Favor :-
Most of the exams’ pattern is not up to the mark to evaluate the
real capabilities of the student.
Present examination system in schools is encouraging
cramming.
There are many exams annually like daily, weekly and monthly
tests. So, students barely has any time for extracurricular
activities.
In present generation, schools and colleges are pressuring
everyone including kids to get above 90%.
Most of the private colleges are not conducting practicals, they
are just focusing on theoretical subjects to make their students
toppers so that their college can become famous. By this
students are not knowing the applicability of subjects.
Because of excess pressure of examinations some students are
committing suicide.
Many Evaluators are giving marks based on number of papers
without seeing the actual content. This discourages the students
who have real worth.
In Against:-
Examinations help to evaluate an individual academically.
It helps the student understand the pressure which he/she will
face in their professional lives.
Exams help in facing competition.
Exams help the students stay connected to their books, If there
are no exams, most of the students don’t concern about studies.
Through Exams students can know the areas in which they are
weak, so that they concentrate more on those areas.
If we qualify a person without exams, it may lead to critical
situations like a doctor would kill many of his patients. 108
