AIESEC in University of Kelaniya. Apart from
that, the proper formation of 2 initiative groups in
IIT and Uwa Wellassa University was another re-
markable milestone. Further, Sparkles, the annual

legacy of cn

executive board 19.20he vision and the primary goal of the Local Committee President of AIESEC in University of Ke-

laniya for the term 19/20 was to inspire young leaders to reach excellence and be the best versions

Tof themselves. They were able to create opportunities for members to improve their skills. They

pushed the members out of their comfort zones as that is the first step to build confidence in the mem-
bers.
At the initial plan, the Executive Board had multiple key focus areas. They wanted to improve value
delivery in the Incoming Global Volunteer (iGV) function. Also, they wanted to improve all the functions
including Outgoing Global Volunteer (oGV). Most importantly, they took necessary actions to improve
sustainability in AIESEC in university of Kelaniya. Through different experiences, they continued their
process to inspire excellence within the young leaders who were already in AIESEC. During the term,
it was noted that if someone joins AIESEC it will be pretty obvious that his or her goal was to become a
leader. Therefore, the target of the Executive Board was to stimulate this set of young leaders to do the
impossible.

Also, almost all the members who were in the 19/20 Executive Board are currently employed while
some of them are still in their final year at university. Since one develops soft skills, time management,
multi-tasking capabilities and other valuable qualities when you are in AIESEC, it has assisted the mem-
bers of this term when they started to work in the corporate world.
During the interview with the Local Committee President of AIESEC in University of Kelaniya for the
term 19/20, Ms. Kanchani Kumarasinghe shared her overall AIESEC experience in one sentence as “One
hell of a ride!”.

“The life you spend in the university is pretty exciting, enjoyable
and you get to do a lot of fun stuff. But right after you leave uni-
versity, life gets very serious, because when you enter the corpo-
rate world, you have a lot of responsibilities, and you have to do
so much work. And that is where you use all the things you learnt
in AIESEC, in practical life. Your life would get pretty tough once
you step into the real world but that’s how life is, and you have to

get used to it. “

She further emphasized on the value of academics as well saying that getting a degree with a class should
be your primary goal in your university life. Also she added that if you can balance your academics with
AIESEC or extra-curricular activities, then that is what makes you an exceptional character. Also as per
the final message for the membership and readership she emphasized the importance of always prioritiz-
ing your goal and believing in yourself. Also she appreciated the good work of the members amidst the
global pandemic.

Committee Vice President for Incoming Global Talent for the term 21/22 and Thilini Mediwake,
the Local Committee Vice President for Incoming Global Exchanges for the term 21/22, has recog-
nized the space for improvement within the function as they have introduced novel resolutions to better
recognize its external partners and resources. The most important event of the funcion, “iGT Induction”
was successfully concluded as a method of orientation and introduction to the function for the newly re-
cruited members allocated to the function. Similarly, they have taken the necessary actions to uphold the
function’s core competence and functional skills as a part of the team creation process by the Team Leader
training and Leadership Body Planning sessions. The Business to Business capacity building session was
successfully concluded to reinforce their goal to regain at least five contacts signed with companies which
have the potential to contain foreign internship opportunities. Moreover, the highlight of the function’s
activity so far is the blueprint laid out to facilitate a research & development team where the initial selec-
tion process to identify its potential team members is meticulously finalized. These new implementations
altogether are a promising collective effort to uplift the sales skills of the function’s membership body. It is
apparent that the new appearance given to the function would carefully address its pain points in order to
deliver an optimum level of performance.

Project SUWA is an initiative by the Incoming
Global Volunteer function of AIESEC in Universi-
ty of Kelaniya under the SDG 14; Clean Water and
Sanitation. The project aims to make a remarkable
impact on the society by helping people who are
struggling with soil transmitted helminth infec-
tions. The project SUWA will expand the coverage
of improved water supply and will aim to provide
better urban sanitation under the guidance of the
organizing committee president Timeshi Herath.

Fashionista is a street fashion event organized by AIESEC in University of Kelaniya
with the theme of “Street Fashion with Covid Wear”, where the intention is to advo-
cate covid wear as a stylish and fun experience rather than a necessity and thereby

ultimately advocate for protection against Covid.
It is one of the latest and greatest initiatives by the Partnership Development & Public

Relations AKA the Team Quadron which is under the Local Committee Vice Pres-
ident Shehani Fernando. The Organizing Committee President Raveen Jayasinghe
and his Organizing Committee Vice Presidents who are proud members of AIESEC
in University of Kelaniya, are planning to hold the event in Semi-Virtual type for a

crowd of 18 to 24 years of age.
The event therefore will make a huge impact and provide opportunity for the industry
and the fashion-oriented youth to discover and showcase new fashionable wear that

brings up new trends.

Hashini’s Story

Local Committee Vice President
Outgoing Global Volunteer 21/22

It was a calm evening back in 2019 when my friend Hasanjale dropped me a message asking,
“Hachcha, shall we go abroad?”.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the
ones you did do. So throw off the bow-lines! Sail away from safe harbor. Catch the trade winds
in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover!”
These were the very words which came to my mind when I heard her question. And with full
excitement, I replied saying “Yesssss!”
Back then, the only thing I knew about AIESEC was that it’s just an organization where people
can volunteer abroad. Stepping onto my AIESEC journey with my beautiful exchange to Hun-
gary, I always say that it’s the best decision that I’ve made in my life. People think you just visit
a country and volunteer, but the 6 weeks in Europe were full of surprises and amusement. It
taught me many important lessons that I’ll never regret sharing. The beauty of cultural
diversity, the true meaning of poverty and why zero hunger is important were the best ones
out of them. While volunteering in Hungary, I could experience the beauty of 9 countries
while making thousands of memories to cherish throughout my lifetime.
As soon as I got back to Sri Lanka, I joined AIESEC not knowing this journey is going to be
a part of my life. Day by day in AIESEC, I found that I’m meeting many new people and the
beauty of it was, they were just not people to me, they were people who never failed to in-
spire me every single day. Time passed and I learned AIESEC is a place where we can grow.

day I was asked to join an IR meeting. I was

things that I’ve never done before. Remem-
bering the very first IR meeting in my life,
I felt so strange and had the fear of public
speaking. But now, after many experiences,
I feel very normal to talk with a foreigner or
even in public not only virtually, but also

and I found that AIESEC is the place where I
