vol.2 ISSUE ii | MArch 2022

March has been a tough month for the membership, but despite the
challenges, CNers, being CNers, have shown incredible fortitude
and contributed significantly to the entity, as usual.
Sparkles 2022 earned a special place in the Colombo North Cal-
endar for conducting a physical ceremony after two years despite
numerous constraints and limitations and providing the member-
ship with a wonderful experience and enhanced inspiration and
encouragement to perform better in this new term.
The Midnight Local Committee Meeting was a unique experience
for the members and the newbies since it was their first Local Com-
mittee Meeting experience. Training of new members has been
completed, and project Be Sri Lankan was completed with great
success, making it one of the top Incoming Global Volunteer proj-
ects for this month.
Hard work and steady performance by the members, despite the
country’s current predicament, led the entity to be ranked second
in entity performance for the month of February in AIESEC Sri
Lanka.
Moreover, the Local Committee has come up with many plans for
the future. Phase two of the “Quill It” event, one of the most suc-
cessful initiatives of the past term, will be implemented for the sec-
ond time in the upcoming month of April, and the preparations for
the CN Avurudu celebrations hopes to ensure another outstanding
member interactive experience.
Apart from that, Festescape, a brand-new innovation from Colom-
bo North, is to be implemented in the coming months.
Furthermore, NatCon’22 (National Conference) is coming up in
April. All the members are excited to see how it will impact their
AIESEC journey and witness how it energizes and drives the mem-
bers while increasing their curiosity.

QHave you gone through hardships? If
so, What kept you going?

I believe hardships are a part and parcel in
life. The main reason that kept me going in AIESEC,
irrespective of the hardships, was reminding me of
the reason why I started. So every time I wanted to
give up on the dream I had in AIESEC, I recalled
the reason why I wanted to be an AIESECER or
the VP. And I always drew inspiration through my
members to stick with the dream we had.

QHow do you think AIESEC helps one in
real life?

AIESEC can help you in many ways. In AIESEC we
say we are empowering people to become leaders,
that is what we exactly do in AIESEC. but if i break
things down to simple terms, in AIESEC we never
come up with excuses. Whatever the problem that
we came across we always had a solution. Even if
we didn’t have a solution, AIESEC taught us to be
responsible for what we can control. That’s how we
became solution oriented. Even now, whatever the
challenge that I go through; it pushes me to take
responsibility instead of excuses. Not only that; in

News

The Incoming Global Talent and Teacher function
is the function responsible for promoting the enti-
ty’s existence and performance by developing part-
nerships with internship opportunities offered by
AIESEC in the University of Kelaniya. Moreover,
this function mainly focuses on providing foreign
interns with remarkable internship experience.
The Incoming Global Talent and Teacher function
enthusiastically started this month by opening
the door to the Incoming Exchange’s 1st physical
meetup. It gives the Incoming Exchange team a
grand opportunity to get to know each other and
create a powerful team bond. The Leadership Body,
which consists of the managers and Visa special-
ists, showcased their leadership skills and inno-
vative ideas, which made a massive impact on the
engagement of the team members. Moreover, the
Local Committee Vice Presidents shared their ex-
periences to encourage and motivate the team. The
newly recruited members had their training and
mock sessions conducted, to make them familiar
with the process. Apart from that, Incoming Glob-
al Talent members created more than 15 Interna-
tional Relations partnerships and renewed them by
strengthening the International Relations partner-
ships. Significantly, the Incoming Exchange team
works together supporting each other, and they are
highly motivated toward achieving tasks and creat-
ing a long-lasting impact.
Special thanks to the contribution of the immedi-

ported the matching training provided to the man-
agers, matching manager Panchami Jayawardena
who guided the matching team training, and inter-
national relations manager Supeshala Viyani who

The Incoming Exchange physical meeting took
place in March, and it was a wonderful experience
for the team to get to know one another better. As
a result, a strong team bond was formed among
the members of the Incoming Exchange family.
Members of the Leadership Body (LB), composed
of four managers and a Visa specialist, displayed
their leadership capabilities and innovative ideas.
The Local Committee Vice Presidents were invit-
ed to relate their expertise to inspire and motivate
the Incoming Exchanges members to become the
best versions of themselves. Training sessions were
held for the newly recruited members and simu-

cruitment procedure. More than 40 International
Relations partnerships were formed and renewed,
significantly expanding the International Relations
partnerships. In addition, the team members were
instructed on how to create Exchange Participants
booklets for the projects as well. It’s with immense
pleasure to proclaim that we were able to achieve
eight approvals for Incoming Global Volunteer
projects so far in the month of March.
Sachini, the immediate Matching Manager, sup-
ported the Matching training done for the man-
agers, and Hiruni Lansakara guided the matching

taining five approvals for the present opportunities
that Incoming Global Volunteer has, supporting
the Avurudu Organizing Committee, and getting
to know other CNers. The Incoming Exchange
team works together to support one another and
is intrinsically determined to accomplish strategic
goals and make a significant impact.

Functional News

The month of March was an inspiring timespan for
CN Quadron. They had the newbie meet up with
a rather spooky theme named “HOLDRON,” using
the members themselves to drive Public Relations
into the team itself.
Also, the Quadron assisted the Sparkles organizing
committee in terms of External Relations raising
and partner handling. The Public Relations team
focused on media partnerships.
Further, in Sparkles 2022, the partner awards were
offered for Mitra innovations, Imperial College
of Business studies, and EFL logistics as a part of
partner appreciation.
Additionally, during this period, the Pubic Rela-
tions team worked with February magazine and
published it for the new term.
Next month, the function is expected to assist with
the events Festascape, Colombo North Avurudu,
and the iGV project, “Global classroom.”

Sparkles 2022 is the Annual Awarding Ceremo-

the most glamorous and significant nights in our
CN calendar and was organized for the 9th con-

March 2022 at hotel Sanara Mandira Kiribathgoda.
Sparkles is not simply an awarding ceremony but
an occasion organized to recognize and celebrate
our young leaders. The latter have been continu-
ously putting their effort and dedication towards
our entity throughout the past term in many ways.
The specialty of this year’s Sparkles is that we got
to witness the event in a physical context after two
years of having the event in a virtual environment.
Sparkles ‘22 was held with the presence of Dr. Pra-

of AIESEC for the term as the Chief Guest for the
awarding ceremony. Also, the presence of our dear
alumni, Member Committee of AIESEC Sri Lan-

due to the members’ hard work, which brought
many achievements to our entity.

The month of March was a very proud moment for
us due to Sparkles 2022, the annual awarding cer-

CN Awrudu

The month of April gives us the very sense of the
New Year. After tiring years with the covid’19 out-

year under the new normal and challenging envi-
ronment CN is going to bring back the celebra-
tion back as “CN Awrudu’22” with the transition
of the Sun from Meena Raashi to Mesha Raashi.
The organizing committee looks forward to have
the event in the late April with the participation of
membership and alumni. Get your ethnic dresses
ready and be there to engross the new year feelings
with your fellow CNers.

It would be 100% the inspiration and the encour-

up to them, and I was fascinated by the work they
did. They were very passionate about the function

Message from Spirit
of the month

AIESEC is an organization like no other in which we can develop ourselves while creating a signifi-
cant impact on the lives of many individuals. The experiences we receive, the people we meet, and the
impact we create on the world is what makes me proud to be a part of AIESEC. Personally, this experi-
ence has been life-changing, with so many new learnings along this fantastic journey. I want to thank
Colombo North and its membership for recognizing me as the spirit of the month and for always being
encouraging and inspirational. This moment will be forever cherished in my AIESEC journey, and I

hope to inspire more AIESECers and help Colombo North reach greater heights in the future.
