At Peace
(Roentgenogram Photograms)
Towards the end of her stay in the United States,
Freya became obsessed with dead birds. For her,
the animal did not necessarily portend physical
death, but metaphorical death. More specifically,
it symbolized the end of something and the start
of something else.
Vogel placed the bird on a backlit apparatus,
where she would cover it up, to only expose
certain parts of it. Through this process, she
shed light on the bird’s fragility, it’s peacefulness
and overall, it’s beauty.
