Greetings All:
I stand today under conviction!
As the Season of Pentecost, the Third Season of the Fifth District Quadrennial
Calendar, approached, I mistakenly assumed that the inspiration, the motivation, the
“igniting” had to come from me. I thought that it was my responsibility to travel from
Annual Conference to Annual Conference laying the groundwork for Pentecost. But that
misconception was eradicated when my airplane landed in Spokane, WA, for the Pacific
Northwest Annual Conference, the first in the 2018 Series of Annual Conferences. It was
there, at the airport before I arrived on the Conference site, that I discovered that the Lord
Himself had prepared the hearts and minds and spirits of His people.
The delegation that welcomed us in red (the color for the Season) tee shirts with the
symbol of a flaming dove emblazoned on them not only came with “tiptoe” anticipation
of the promised signs and wonders and miracles, but they also came with testimonies of
how the Lord was already moving in a mighty way.
Out of my conviction sprang a new revelation. My role, our role is not to “ignite” the
situations into which we are sent, but to “fan” the flames of the all-consuming fire of the
Spirit as we declare, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Let’s get to work!

Lady Veronica and I want to take this opportunity to congratulate all Pastors on receiving
their Pastoral Appointments for Conference Year 2018-2019; and we want to express our
gratefulness to you the officers and members for receiving your Pastors in the loving way
that you have.
Regardless of our circumstances, we the clergy and laity have been given the privilege and
responsibility of: preaching and sharing the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ;
pastoring, leading and strengthening our congregations; meeting tithing and other financial
obligations; and following leadership on every level of the AME Church. We, however,
must not lose sight of the fact that our main objective remains leading the unchurched to
Christ.
I am truly humbled to have served as your Presiding Elder for the past four Conference
Years; and look forward to actively embracing this Season of Pentecost as a part of our
Episcopal Team’s vision. As a Presiding Elder District, we will concentrate and dedicate
this Conference Year towards intentional evangelizing as we expect miracles, signs, and
wonders.
I personally want to thank my wife (Lady Veronica), mother (Mother Chauteau); and all of
you clergy and laity on every level for your love and support. And thank you to Pastor
Theodore Payne, First Lady Jennifer Payne, and the Bethel, Reno-Sparks Family for your
hospitality.
