คือ คำท่ใี ช้เชอื่ มข้อความ แสดงความเกย่ี วข้อง ตำแหน่ง เวลา ความสมั พันธ์ของ Noun หรอื Pronoun กบั คำ
อื่น ๆ ในประโยค (กองบรรณาธกิ ารนติ ยสารไอเกต็ องิ ลิช, 2015)
What Is a Preposition?
“Vampires! Zombies! Werewolves!”
“Where?!”
“Behind you!”
Thank goodness for prepositions. Imagine not knowing where the danger lay….
Prepositions tell us where or when something is in relation to something else. When
monsters are approaching, it’s good to have these special words to tell us where those
monsters are. Are they behind us or in front of us? Will they be arriving in three seconds
or at midnight?

หลักการจำ Preposition of Place

In หมายถงึ ข้างใน ใชก้ ับ เมอื ง ประเทศ และส่ิงของ/พนื้ ทท่ี ม่ี ขี อบเขต เช่น
Prick is dancing in the kitchen room.
(นางปริกกำลงั เต้นรำในห้องครัว)

On หมายถงึ บน (อยบู่ นบางส่ิง) ใช้กบั ชื่อถนนและพน้ื ผิวของสง่ิ ตา่ ง ๆ เชน่
My sister puts Joy’s photo on the wall.
(นอ้ งสาวของฉนั ติดรปู จอ้ ยบนผนงั บ้าน)

At หมายถงึ ท่ี ใช้กบั สถานที่ท่ีเจาะจง เช่น
I wait for KhunPee at the tent every day.
(ฉนั รอคุณพที่ ี่ท่านำ้ ทุกวนั )

- in for MONTHS, YEARS, CENTURIES and LONG PERIODS ใชก้ บั เดอื น ปี ทศวรรษ และ

ช่วงเวลาท่ียาวนาน เชน่ January, summer, Ice Age
- on for DAYS and DATES ใชก้ บั วนั และวนั ท่ี เช่น Sunday, 6th March

Preposition of direction and way คำบพุ บทแสดงทศิ ทางและวิธีการ

1. Direction: across, along, away from, down, to, from, into ,up ,through, out of

1.1 into = เข้าไปขา้ งใน out of = ออกจาก

– He ran into the house quickly. เขาวง่ิ เข้าไปในบา้ นอย่างรวดเรว็

– After a few minutes he ran out of the house. หลงั จากน้ันสกั ครูเ่ ขาก็วิง่ ออกจากบา้ น

1.2 to = ถงึ + จดุ หมายปลายทาง from = จาก + จดุ เริม่ ต้น

– We always walk to school. เราเดินไปโรงเรยี นเสมอ

– Take this dirty dog from me. เอาเจ้าหมาสกปรกออกจากฉัน

1.3 up = ขึ้น down = ลง

– He walks up the hill. เขาเดินขนึ้ เขา

– She is walking down the stairs. เธอกำลงั เดินลงบนั ได

1.4 through = ผา่ น, ทะลุ

– A bird flies through the window. นกบนิ ผ่านเข้าทางหน้าต่าง

2. Way: by, through, on, with ฉนั ไปทำงานโดยรถไฟใต้ดนิ
I go to work by subway. ฉันมาทน่ี โี่ ดยการเดนิ

Water will be pumped through a pipe. พวกเราแล่นเรอื ดว้ ยลม
We sailed with the wind.

ใช้ by ในความหมาย “ โดย ด้วย “ เช่น
I go to school by bus. (ผมไปโรงเรียนโดยรถโดยสาร)
We can’t go there by car. (เราไปท่ีนนั่ โดยรถยนต์ไม่ได้)

ใช้ on ในความหมาย “ โดย ดว้ ย “ เชน่
Paul arrived on the island on hovercraft. (พอลมาถงึ บนเกาะด้วยเรือเรว็ )
I like to travel on train. (ผมชอบเดินทางโดยรถไฟ)

ใช้ with ในความหมาย “ ดว้ ย กบั “ เชน่
We have noodles with chopsticks. (เราทานกว๋ ยเต๋ียวด้วยตะเกยี บ)
She reacted with anger. (เธอตอบโต้ด้วยความโกรธ)

ใช้ in ในความหมาย “ ด้วย ในสภาพ “ เช่น
She always speaks in a low voice. (เขาพูดดว้ ยน้ำเสยี งต่ำเสมอ)
He draws in ink. (เขาวาดดว้ ยหมกึ )

ใช้ like ในความหมาย “ คล้ายกนั เหมอื นกนั “ เช่น
Many say he laughs like a hyena. (หลายคนพดู ว่าเขาหวั เราะเหมือนหมาใน)
I love him like my brother. (ผมรกั เขาเหมอื นนอ้ งชายของผม)
หมายเหตุ like โดยปกติเป็นคำกริยา (verb) แต่ในทน่ี ี้ เรานำมาใชเ้ ป็นคำบพุ บท (preposition)

ใช้ as ในความหมาย “ ในตำแหน่ง ในฐานะ (เปน็ ) เหมือน “ เช่น
Jane got a job as an English teacher. (เจนได้งานเป็นครสู อนภาษาอังกฤษ)
He’s naked as a jaybird. (เขาลอ่ นจ้อนเหมือนลกู นก)

ใช้ of ในความหมาย “ ของ แห่ง “ เช่น
He’s a friend of mine. (เขาเปน็ เพ่อื นของผม)
This’s a 1994 model of the car. (นีค่ ือรุ่นของรถยนตป์ ี 1994)

ใช้ for ในความหมาย “ ดว้ ย ให้กับ เพ่อื “ เชน่
They divorced for many reasons. (พวกเขาหย่าดว้ ยเหตุผลหลายประการ)
Most of the members voted for him. (สมาชกิ ส่วนใหญ่ลงคะแนนให้เขา)
I’m going out for a walk. (ผมจะออกไป(เพื่อ)เดินเลน่ )

Preposition of movement คือคำบพุ บทบอกการเคลอื่ นไหว

Out of, off และ from จะใชใ้ นความหมายตรงขา้ มกบั into, onto และ to ตัวอย่างประโยคเชน่
We moved the chairs out of my bedroom.

The actor ran off the stage.

We drove from Chiang Mai to Phayao.

Across, along, past, through
Tanggwa and Pranee ran across the field to the road.

Sutee cycled along the road to Phrae.

The bus went past the bus stop without stopping.

Up, down, over
She doesn’t like riding her bike up these hills.

Preposition of Measure, Standard, Rate, Value บพุ บทแสดงปรมิ าณ อัตรา หรือมลู ค่า
this preposition is used for the purpose as it seems from the title: for a measure or

state a standard or specify a rate or specify a value. There are a few prepositions that are
used before nouns, adjectives or verbs to describe them in the context of a measurement.
