SIGNIFICANT PHOTOGRAPHS .

September 11 2001,Two airplanes - American Airlines
Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 - were
hijacked by 19 Al Qaeda terrorists. The planes
crashed into the North and South towers of the World
Trade Center. These crashes were part of four
coordinated suicide attacks. The attacks against New
York City and Washington, D.C., caused extensive
death and destruction and triggered an enormous U.S.
effort to combat terrorism. Nearly 3,000 people
died, which included more than 400 police officers
and firefighters. This photograph was taken at the
moment the second plane hit the North Tower.

This photograph could become one of the greatest
photos and the most defining one of the 20th
century. “Life magazine's” first female
photographer Margaret Bourke-White had come to
India before the impending independence. Gandhi's
secretaries informed White that she would be
allowed to take a photograph only if she learned to
use the spinning wheel. She indeed did. They also
told her that she would not be able to talk to him
as it was his day of silence, and she was not
allowed to use bright lights as Gandhi didn't like
it.

In all fairness, the Hindenburg crash was not the
most disastrous accident. It was not even the worst
zeppelin accident. But what this crash did was put
an end to the golden age of this airship.
The German passenger airship LZ 129 Hindenburg
caught fire and was destroyed during its attempt to
dock with its mooring mast at Naval Air Station
Lakehurst, causing 35 fatalities from the 97
onboard, in addition to the fatality on ground. The
parent company of the Hindenburg has gathered quite
a lot of photographers and press people as a
massive PR campaign. They all witnessed the
zeppelin going down and made sure the world
witnessed it too.

This is a picture of a man burying his little
child who was lost to the Bhopal Gas Tragedy.
The Bhopal Gas Tragedy, one of the world's worst
disasters took place on the night of 2 December in
1984, claiming around 15,000 lives and injuring
around 5,58,125 people. Acclaimed photojournalist
Pablo Bartholomew and renowned photographer Raghu
Rai went there to document the catastrophe. They
came across a man who was burying his child. With
regard to this, the victims of this tragedy
carried out protests in September 2006, demanding
the extradition of American Warren Anderson from
the United States.

The photos below are of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
as the atom bombs leveled everything to the
ground. The picture on the left is of
Hiroshima, bombed on 6th August 1945. The
picture on the right is of Nagasaki bombing on
9th August 1945.Surprisingly, there were
leaflets dropped by American planes a few days
before, warning about the deadly weapon and
urging the Japanese people and government to
end the fighting. Even after the first bombing
on Hiroshima, they failed to surrender. Hence it gave way to the Nagasaki bombing,
after which Japan finally surrendered. The bombs killed nearly 1,60,000 people in
Hiroshima and another 75,000 in Nagasaki.

This Pulitzer-winning photo by Joe Rosenthal

captures six men raising the American flag at

Iwo Jima during World War 2. The American

government used this image to inspire the

entire nation. The war was far from being over

and three of these six men had lost their

lives. Now, if they all die in the war, the

inspiring message that the government was

trying to send across would not remain

inspiring anymore. So, they tried to rescue the

remaining three. Two agreed to leave the war.

The sixth man, Ira Hayes refused to get rescued but was removed from combat. When he

realized that his friends had died in the war, he spent the rest of his life in

unrelenting remorse. Meanwhile, Rosenthal would be accused of staging the scene for

his picture and he would be defending it as serendipity. It was in fact, a great call

by Rosenthal and indeed, serendipity.

In March 1993, a series of 12 bombs
went off across Mumbai. The serial
blasts left 257 dead and 713
injured. But in the aftermath, an
unlikely hero emerged. According to
Reuters, a golden Labrador named
Zanjeer worked with the bomb squad
and saved thousands of lives by
detecting “more than 3,329 kgs of
the explosive RDX, 600 detonators,
249 hand grenades and 6406 rounds of
live ammunition.” He helped avert
three more bombs in the days
following the blasts.
This photo was taken as a senior police officer lays a wreath of flowers on Zanjeer
as he was buried with full police honors at a widely-attended ceremony.

Philippe Halsman’s life’s work was to capture
the essence of those he photographed. Knowing
a standard portrait of the flamboyant
Salvador Dali was not going to wash, he set
out to create something extraordinary. The
Dali Atomicus, as this photograph is called,
was captured by Philippe Halsman. Halsman
made a career out of capturing people
jumping. Dali Atomicus was the result of six
hours of persistent efforts, 28 jumps, a
roomful of assistants throwing buckets of
water, and unhappy cats into the air to get
the perfect picture.

This is the haunting photograph of three-

year-old Aylan Kurdi that has become the

face of the Syrian refugee crisis and has

compelled the entire world to take note. The

photograph was clicked by photojournalist

Nilufer Demir, who admitted to being

petrified when she saw the tiny lifeless

body. There were other bodies of migrants

washed ashore, along with Aylan's five-year-
old brother Galip. The migrants died when the boat they were in capsized on its way

to the Greek island of Kos.

According to a lot of people, this
photograph hastened the end of the
Vietnam War. The photographer Nick Ut,
claims he saw a naked little girl
running. Their village had been bombed
with napalm, an inflammable liquid that
sticks to the skin and delivers deadly
burns when ignited. Nick Ut rescued the
burnt girl, taking her to a nearby
hospital in his van, prioritizing her
life over his job. Ut went on to win a
Pulitzer Prize for the picture in 1973.

CODING
FOR
BEGINNERS

SOHAM KULKARNI

In these times of quarantining and social distancing, all of us use computers as
portals to talk to our friends, to attend “school”, enjoy an occasional game, and of
course, binge movies and series. But, do you ever wonder, how did such a versatile
object come into existence, which could get work done quickly, entertain you for
hours, and still be compact enough to fit in your backpack? I’ll leave the hardware
aspect for another day, because it’s a topic all by itself, but today I will focus on the
virtual end.
Programming languages are a set of conventional words, or their forms, which a
computer and a human can (somewhat) understand. We cannot wrap our heads
around a million 1s and 0s, while the computers cannot understand a bunch of
animals grouping together random sounds and expecting it to make sense. The
aforementioned languages exist to bridge this gap. The main two types of
languages are: compiled and interpreted. Compiled languages require less
processing overhead (that is, they are easier to run for the computer), while
interpreted languages require an active interpreter (which funnily, is a program
itself) to execute the program without any form of compilation. This might have
seemed highly technical, but this picture will explain it better.

AUGUST 2020

I started out learning C, which is a pretty old language (48 years old) if you think of
it, but it is pretty good nevertheless. I would recommend exploring C, HTML, or
JavaScript when starting out. I learnt using Notepad (gedit, but you get the point)
and a command-line interface. I would recommend using Codeacademy or one of
the many textbooks, such as Let us C. You can use an IDE, a text editor like Atom,
anything that works for you. You might be tempted to just get on with that sweet
Python code, and you could even manage it with the tutorials, but I would
recommend learning the logic, terms, etc. Once you feel confident in one language,
you, my friend, are ready.
Now for the next part; your main language to code in. This step is highly optional,
skip if your first language is what you want to continue with. Mind you, there is no
such rule that you should program only in one specific language, and stick to it.
Today, Python, Java, C++, C# are a few of the popular languages.
When you fire up Minecraft for a bit of fun with your friends, you might have
noticed the ‘Java Edition’ text. Java is one of the most popular programming
languages today, and it is my personal choice. It’s a compiled object-oriented class-
based versatile language which is designed to be portable. This might sound a tad
bit confusing, but ill go through it piece by piece. We have covered compiled
languages earlier. Class-based languages have ‘classes’ which are groups of code,
which are written once in the entire script, and can be called anywhere, i.e. the
program treats them like a conventional command. Portable programming
languages aim to follow WORA (Write Once, Run Anywhere). Lastly, Object-oriented
languages are a special type of programming language which incorporate classes
and aren't procedural (don’t break into a sweat it’s okay if you don’t understand it all
at once).

frameworks, such as the .NET framework, Ruby on Rails etc. Overall,
programming is a very rewarding experience and it is very gratifying
to see your creation succeed in its purpose. If you do have any

TEENAGER'S in LOCKDOWN

DR. RAHUL KHEMANI

Rohan was sitting on the sofa with his 12 th boards results in his hands. He was ecstatic with his
90% he had gotten through his sheer hard work and dedication throughout the year. His memory
went back to the day he had heard (India's) Prime Minister Modi’s first speech on the COVID-19
situation. It was the 19th of March that he realised how grave the situation was as he heard the P.M
announcing the ‘Janata Curfew’ (People's Curfew) on the 22 nd of March which was a trial run for
a lockdown nobody had ever anticipated. That was the same day he read what a pandemic was and
understood how such a small virus could bring down the entire world to its knees.

In time, the lockdown 1.0 was implemented and it was a joyous moment for him as he realised he
didn’t have any more rules and regulations that bound him. He could do whatever he wanted at any
time; nobody was looking at him while he whiled away his time.

With everyone still at home as his father
would be working from home and his
mother on the phone anxiously asking
everyone how they were doing. He would
sit down with his elder brother to watch a
series on Netflix and finish it in hours,
taking small breaks just to play games on
his Xbox. He felt like the King of the
World!
In time he realised what it takes to keep a
house running. Sweeping, mopping,
dusting and dish washing had replaced the
insane travelling in locals and running
around the city. The exhaustion, however,
was the same. His poor mother was
undeniably and understandably getting
increasingly irritated. Food had started to
lose its original taste. As far as he could
remember, this was the first time he had
seen the whole of his family work together
to keep the momentum going, picking each
other up and trying to calm each other’s
anxieties as the TV shouted increasing
numbers on a daily basis.

Lockdown also meant getting accustomed to new way of life, of living by new guidelines. They
had to wear masks and go out with precautions to get the groceries and come back hoping that he
hasn’t caught the virus. He would run to take a bath and keep washing his hands repeatedly. The
numbers of cases along with the deaths were raising consistently and along with that anxieties of
everyone around him. He would keep checking his phone repeatedly for any new updates about the
virus and whether it had miraculously vanished from the face of the earth. He started feeling
suffocated inside his own house as he had lost his privacy and somebody or the other was always
around him. The same freedom that he felt he had at the beginning of the lockdown, suddenly
started haunting for him. He couldn’t go and hangout with his friends which was something of a
daily routine of his before the lockdown began. He missed the long drives that his family would
take every weekend. He missed family dinners and movie nights at the nearby theatre.

It goes against the teenager impulse and instinct to be locked in as they have this need to assert
themselves as individuals, to stay away from their parents, to spend time with their friends, to take
risks and to act without thinking about the consequences. The pandemic demanded the teenager to
act responsibly and make sensible decisions for the safety of the family and neighbourhood. It
almost feels like this pandemic has forced them to grow up. before they were ready to do so. The
lockdown has pushed them into the mind-set of a grown-up.

Data Science: The Talk of Tomorrow

VEDATMAN SONPAL

Data Science is the new big thing. It’s the revolution,
the talk of the decade. It’s the hottest job of the
century. It’s everything and much more. It is the
hype in the job markets, the key to business
solutions, the path to automation and efficiency. You
can hear the hefty job packages advertising
themselves, the data wizards brandishing their digital
weapons and your own personal robot having a cup
of tea with you. What is it, though? What is machine
learning, deep learning, neural networks and all
other techy hoogledi-doo? Even the infamous Indian
aunties talk about it and you find yourself
completely lost in the world of Python, R and
Tableau. Hence, here’s a simplified version of the
talks…

Your Digital Footprint

Whenever you buy something, visit a restaurant, or search up something on the internet, you
leave a trace, a sort of digital footprint. If we say that a man visits a website a day, then the
entire world visits 7.8 billion websites a day, each time leaving behind their digital footprint as
some data; it can be anything, simple text they entered, a button they clicked or a video they
watched. This massive amount of data stays there on the internet, lying still, waiting for
someone to download it and do something with it. Quite literally, the world’s entire browsing
history is there on the internet!

Due to privacy laws and other long, boring documents, you can’t access all of it legally, yet,
there is some within a company’s reach. For example, YouTube stores your watch history and
the kind of videos you watch on their platform. Similarly, Amazon stores your shopping history.
I hear you ask why this is important. After all, why invest so much in storing and processing
terabytes upon terabytes of data, right?

Modelling the real world

What’s really insightful about your digital footprint is that it shows what your preferences are
and what you are more likely to love spending time on. Let’s say you love listening to rock on a
music platform, so you listen to all rock artists and bands and never listen to classical music.
Next time, when you are searching for a new song to listen to, the platform won’t recommend
you classical songs, but rock music, to improve your overall experience. It’s something quite
insignificant and you might not even notice it, yet when implemented on a very large scale it
affects ratings quite a lot. You would certainly be irked if you would be shown ‘irritating’
classical music ads instead of rock ads right?

This data provides answers to tough business questions. Data scientists (quite simple people
rather), create ‘data models’. These models are the simplest systems of all time. All you do is
enter all data (digital footprints of users) you have with yourself and the model sends you an
output which answers, based on statistical predictions, how you should plan your next move.
Let’s say you are a data scientist in that music platform; after creating your model, you enter
all the songs listened by genre. If most of your users listen to rock, the model advises you to
add more rock songs to your platform and advertise them heavily to attract more users.

What’s so great?

Exactly! What’s the big fuss about some simple filtering
of data? Even a 5-year-old can make Excel sheets today.
However, data models don’t just filter data; they predict
outcomes and the likelihood of them. It is a
conversation between the decision-makers, and a
computer which asks the decision-makers for
information which it should process and in turn, answers
any questions at lightning speed based on the data
given. Its predictive analysis and has its branches spread
everywhere: from predicting what consumers want to
influencing votes by analysing voting patterns.

Data scientists do a tad bit more. Not all data of all users is directly fed into the model. The
data is refined first, then ordered, fed into the model and presented by data visualization
techniques and advanced software. Data scientists are well versed with the industry they
work in as well. If the data they use in their models isn’t understandable to them, how ill
they explain predictions to others? Also most importantly, creating a data model for specific
situations is certainly an uphill task due to the use of many software programs and the need
to think logically.

On the other side of the coin, the thrill of working on something as important, handling
delicate information, and employing your logic to create efficient models is a privilege little
professions involve. Now, all the data you refine can, quite literally, decide the next

The Responsibilities of Freedom

Miheer Karandikar
_mihrya_

Hey guys! I‘m back!
Last time we talked about the freedom that we give ourselves and how we should open ourselves
up to become better. This month we are going to talk about the responsibilities of freedom. As I
had said in the first post of this series, responsibilities and freedom come hand in hand. I had
said that responsibilities are the cost of freedom, and that couldn’t be more true. Just like we
take care of our finances, we must always take care of our freedom, by evaluating the
responsibilities that come with it. Again, to be clear, I do not claim that I have in any way
achieved something extraordinary by implementing these techniques. I am just sharing my
thoughts and nothing else. Cheerio!

Earning freedom - From your parents and also from yourself
As teenagers, we are mostly not the masters of our own will. We are yet to venture out in the
world and make a life by ourselves. We are hence at the mercy of our parents. Most of the time
it feels like your parents are restricting you from doing things that you want. Going out with
friends, buying things for yourselves, driving, it may be anything. The first people that grant us
freedom hence are our parents. We need to demand our freedom from them, we need to earn
it. Many times this process brings us nothing else than conflict. But just like everyone else,
there is a specific process to deal with parents. First and foremost you need to understand that
parents are always trying to protect you. They, as a rule, are scared for you. They never want to
restrict you just because it is fun for them. We never understand that and it leads to conflict.

And that is never good.

Imagine that you do get freedom, and you will in some form, always. Just like any kind of win,
freedom can very easily get into your head. You have to not let that happen. You need to
understand that freedom is not getting rid of all your responsibilities. It is the permission to choose
your own responsibilities, along with the responsibility of your own mishaps. Freedom is the
permission to choose your own path. It never had or will never include the losing of
responsibilities. When you have freedom, you will have to handle it. No one in the world will say
handling it is easy. But losing it is.

The problem with losing freedom is that you don’t always lose it when you get caught doing
something you are not meant to. Just the fact that you are not getting penalised for your misuse
there and then doesn’t mean that you have not lost your freedom. You automatically start losing
your freedom when you start misusing it. This is because when you do not get punished/caught
misusing your freedom, you assume that you have the freedom to do what you are. This leads to you
misusing your freedom even more. This is a cycle that will eat you up.
All in all, handle your freedom carefully and always remember that your freedom is your
responsibility.

The next thing that I thought was of importance is the passing on of freedom. Not all of us may be
in a position right now wherein we have the ability to pass on freedom. But such a situation will
come sooner or later. This is also a tricky part because the freedom that you pass on is also your
responsibility. This means that when you can give some kind of freedom to others, it is as if you are
the one who has the freedom. So when the person that you have given freedom makes a mistake, it
invariably means that you yourself have made a mistake. So while imparting freedom to others, you
must be even more careful. The process that you undergo here means that you are in charge. Power
is also freedom and it is even more dangerous. Let’s just say that it is a topic for another time.

As some of you may know, August 15th is India’s Independence Day. In these trying times of the
pandemic, we don’t know if we will get to celebrate it. But the most that we can do is to celebrate,
exercise and protect the freedom that we have. And I sincerely hope that my articles helped you in
that process.

This article concludes my short series on freedom. I hoped you all liked it. It has been a wonderful
experience for me while writing it too. I am always open for any kinds of suggestions,
improvements and even complaints that may be. You can contact me on

Kudos, and good luck!

FILM REVIEW

RAPID FIRE

Title - “The Devil Wears Prada”

Genre - Comedy, drama

Cast - Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway
Directed by - David Frankel
Duration - 109 minutes
Rating - PG 13+

Most of us picture the fashion industry as an over-the-top affair. A glamorous wardrobe, elegant
costume jewellery, glittering makeup, charismatic bearing, flipping through fashion magazines,
smiling for the cameras, posing on red carpets - does it sound dazzling? Entrancing? If it does,
The Devil Wears Prada is the movie for you.
Directed by David Frankel, The Devil Wears Prada is a 2006 American film that allows viewers a
glimpse behind the scenes of the high profile fashion industry. Based on Lauren Weisberger’s
2003 novel of the same name, it flaunts an Oscar-winning star cast of Meryl Streep and Anne
Hathaway, with Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci in supporting roles - all of whose performances
have been greatly applauded. With an IMDb rating of 6.9/10, the movie is considered among the
very best.

The Devil Wears Prada revolves around Andy Sachs, a simple but sensible new graduate who
lands a stylish job as the second assistant to Miranda Priestly. As Priestly is the editor-in-chief of
Runway, a top-selling fashion magazine, the position is supposed to accelerate Andy’s career in
journalism, if she can survive a year working there. What she fails to take into consideration,
though, is the fact that her new boss is a ruthless perfectionist, with an endless list of tasks and
unimaginable demands - and it is made worse by Andy’s purely practical fashion sense, based
entirely on comfort. The movie follows her story as she struggles 24/7 to keep up with Miranda,
faces professional challenges, and strives to maintain a healthy relationship with her co-workers,
best friends and boyfriend - as she eventually finds herself at crossroads, where she must choose
to either leave her job, or end up losing herself.

The film has been greatly acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. It has received high ratings on
various platforms, owing to the special focus on the way the corporate fashion world can affect a
person. The film has won a lot of recognition and has earned a spot among the top movies in the
world. Meryl Streep won a Golden Globe in 2007 for her exceptional acting in The Devil Wears
Prada.

For teenagers, the movie provides great insight into business ethics and corporate dynamics, and
their role in the fashion, journalism and entertainment industries - as well as how it affects a
person’s domestic life and interpersonal relationships. I thus implore all readers to watch The
Devil Wears Prada. The fact that it revolves around the fashion industry should not deter anyone
from watching the film, as it is a story that opens our eyes to the realities of the world.

So how long will Andy be able to hold out, while living up to her personal morals? Will she ever be
good enough for Miranda Priestly? And will she ever be able to achieve her own goals? Watch the
movie to find out!

ZOHNERISM

BY MUSKAAN PATEL

Nathan Zohner, a 14-year-old conducted and presented a science project in 1997 to his classmates
wherein he distributed a whimsical report, which had already spread like fire on the internet,
‘DIHYDROGEN MONOXIDE-THE UNRECOGNISED KILLER’. They were all intelligent students and all
he did was asked them to read the report (which was completely authentic and fact based).
In his report, he provided the audience with facts as to why the chemical should be banned, including
these:
a) The compound can corrode and rust metals
b) If you are dependent on it, going through its withdrawal can kill you.
c) Its found in significant quantities in acid rain, tumors and more.
d) If you consume it, it can cause bloating and excessive urination and sweating.
Armed with such strong evidence, he asked his classmates what the world should do about this threat.
Out of 50 classmates present, 43 voted to ban this compound DIHYDROGEN MONOXIDE. However,
this compound isn’t considered toxic at all! In fact, its just an atypical name for water!
Nathan Zohner’s experiment wasn’t a legitimate attempt to ban water, but an experiment to get a
representation of how gullible people can really be. The facts used in the report were a hundred
percent factually correct, however he just manipulated the facts in his favor.
In recognition of his experiment, journalist James K. Glassman coined the term ‘Zohnerism’- “the use
of a true fact to lead a scientifically and mathematically ignorant public to a false conclusion.”
In light of recent events and the current situation, Zohnerism occurs even more than we think.
Journalists, politicians, and numerous others are turning into spin-meisters just to prove their point.
Its highly unsettling, that the audience, also highly qualified and educated, follow them blindly. We
need to avoid watching too much of breaking news and panel discussions and take responsibility of
what we hear, interpret and convey.

Entry #3

Hii!!

Okay, so I have something to admit to you guys. I mean, this is hard for me to say,
and I don’t think I’ve ever explicitly told anyone this, but I just need to get it out and
be honest with myself and you guys. I owe it to y’all.

I’M ADDICTED TO INSTAGRAM AND YOUTUBE. SOMEONE HELP ME.

Whew. Well, there it is. Laid bare. Please don’t judge me, but I literally don’t have
anything better to do with my time. I mean, I could study, but eh. Who does that
anyways, you know? I feel like last minute studying is kind of the norm at this
point. Why they even bother to try to convince us to “prepare beforehand”, I will
never know.

Also the content just never runs out!! It's like I decide to watch one YouTube video,
just the one, okay? But there’s this teeny tiny inconvenience, called the autoplay
feature, that just automatically plays a new, better and even more fun video right
after you finish the old one! And even if you’re watching something for your class,
like a Ted - Ed or something (no wait, those are actually fun)......like a video on how to
make a herbarium. I kid you not, this is an actual assignment that I have to submit
on the 10th in PDF format. So anyways, you’re watching that. Even then, YouTube just
conveniently puts up random videos based on your previous views that you just can’t
resist watching, and you end up ditching the herbarium all together. (NOT that this
has ever happened to me. *looks away to avoid your judgemental stare*)

This month has just been a massive repetition tbh. Every Monday, I wake up, wishing
it wasn’t Monday, and watch all my class lectures. Then I repeat the process 6 times
over and over again, until finally, my struggling self gets to Saturday. Then the
weekend vibes hit me so hard, I forget I’m bound in an educational system all
together, and mom makes random fun stuff for lunch and dinner all weekend. Then
Monday hits again, I get sad all over again, and repeat. Ik, ik, its sad. Well, that’s life
for ya kids. Its a mess.

The only good thing was, they started lifting all the curbs this month, and me and
my friends could meet up!! I called Ash, Kim, Chloe, Jackson and Blake (he’s another
friend of mine and we live really close together). As usual, Luke couldn’t show up,
cause he basically lives on another planet, tbh. Who lives that far?! He misses
literally everything we do. But well, we had fun, and I finally got to see some humans
again, who weren’t, yk, my family.

Also, Luke is writing a book, which in itself is really cool. He hasn’t let me read the
latest chapters yet, but I have so much fun playing around with his characters and
figuring out ships. I feel like that’s something I’ve been doing for so many years now.
I’m much, much better at handling and playing around with someone else’s
characters. I don’t do well with pre described storylines, cause it makes me feel kinda
trapped (really don’t know any other way to say it. All writers will get me, I’m sure -
just think back to our 10th boards), but pre described characters are totally my thing.
I may not use them exactly as they are, a few tweaks here and there make me
more comfortable with them. But the quality of my writing actually becomes a bit
better when I’m working with someone else’s character. That’s why I would make a
horrible writer, originality-of-content wise. And I mean, why would you read books
that aren’t original, right? I feel like it applies more to my poems, though. First off, I
don’t do poems. But every once in a while, if I feel like it, I’ll try and write one. When I
do, if I incorporate a song lyric into the poem and centre the piece around that one
lyric, it turns out way better than what it would’ve otherwise become. (UI # 3)

You know what I was thinking of the other day? Is there anyone else in the universe
that feels the same emotions as I do?? Not at the same time of course, but maybe,
could there be someone who feels joy, anger, sadness, loneliness all the same as me?
Someone who is triggered the same way I am by certain events and moments? And
then I realized, ofc there has to be someone. There are 7.8 billion people on the planet,
there has got to be at least one person like that. And then I wondered, what if I was
ever lucky enough to meet him or her? Imagine describing an event to that person,
and before you even start explaining the sheer intensity with which the emotions hit
you, the person is already nodding in approval. And the other way around. Imagine
hearing some incident from someone, and knowing exactly what the person was
feeling. Wouldn’t it be awesome to find someone like that? It’s such a weird concept,
ik, but for some reason, the thought hit me hard, and it’s been around in my head
for a while now.

So yeah, that’s pretty much it for this time. Some random updates - Luke just
finished watching Pretty Little Liars, and he has not found one human who’s
watched all of it. He’s quite about lost his mind over all the twists. So now I’m
watching it, but a) I watch stuff EXTREMELY slow and b) I have a tendency to just

quit watching if I get bored. So we’ll see how it goes, but for now, I like it. Just a
reminder tho - if you are watching PLL, do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT contact Luke. He’s
kinda passive aggressive about it......who am I kidding, he’s just plain aggressive. He
will not let you sleep till you’re done, and pester you continuously.

Also, I got these grey contacts I have been wanting for ages, and they’re really really
pretty. I have always...not hated, but I always wanted to change my eye colour.
Naturally, I just have these boring black eyes, so I now get to change them up a bit.
Also I may be a tiny bit in love with them. Paige tho (she’s another friend of mine -
prone to give you the spoilers of a lifetime, so stay away), Paige is freaking obsessed.
She just has full blown OCD at this point. I swear, if she lived even anywhere
remotely near me, I would’ve been missing those contacts. But they’re so fun, and
they just make me feel really pretty!

From your girl, seriously struggling to catch up on her physics lectures,
Till the next time,
Ashley

Letters to our Fictional Friends!

Dear Elizabeth Bennet,
From the very beginning your honesty, virtue and lively
wit enabled you to rise above the nonsense and bad
behavior that pervades your class-bound and often
spiteful society.
Even in your blindest moments, you were an unfailing
attractive character. You were the epitome of
beauty. Your self-assurance came from a keen
critical mind which was expressed through your quick
witted dialogues.
Your sparkling and teasing wit brought out Lady
Catherine's disapproval and Darcy's admiration and love
for you. You were always interested in listening and
ready to laugh at foolishness, stating "I hope I never
ridicule what is wise or good. Follies and nonsense,
whims and inconsistencies do divert me, I own, and I
laugh at them whenever I can." because of your sense
of difference between wise and foolish for most
part was very good.
You didn't only cope up with your hopeless mother but
also with two badly behaved younger sibling and several
snobbish antagonizing females. You overcame your own
mistaken impression of Darcy which initially lead you to
reject his proposals of marriage.
You were usually right about people. You painfully
recognized the inappropriate behavior of most of
your family and quickly identified Mr.Collins as a fool
and Lady Catherine as a tyrant. However this ability to
size up people lead you too far at times.

Your charms were sufficient to keep Darcy
interested while you navigated familial and social
turmoil. As you gradually recognized nobility of
Darcy's character, you realized error in your initial
prejudice against him. Your confidence in your own
discernment was a perfect combination of both Pride
and Prejudice.
From,
A forever fan of yours,
