Phil’s dinosaur breaks
Written by: Collin Day
Have you ever been late to work? Well, Phil will now
know how it feels.“MEEP, MEEP, MEEP”. It was Phil’s alarm
clock. Phil is getting ready for work at 10:00 AM. He codes
games, and he needs to be there by 10:45. The drive is 30
minutes, so he will have 15 minutes to go get a donut to eat
because he has not had breakfast yet. He hops in his car and
starts it up, it is as old as dinosaur poop, but it has always
done him good. He pulls out of his driveway, He lives 10
minutes out of the city. He got on the road and sees all of the
stuff he normally does, an old forest, his neighbor’s houses,
and Billy’s Quick Stop.
Phil gets a small amount of not normal air to his face as
he starts to not gallop forward but inch. He stays looking at
the road as a blue Ford Raptor goes past him with great
speed and force. He looks on, as it goes down the road and
out of sight. He wonders if that person is speeding, but as he
looks at his speedometer he stops moving. He looks around
at the tree next to him that is staying in the same spot in his
view. He opens the door, pulling the handle, pushing it open,
for all the black smoke to hit his face at once. The force of
the smoke made him back up! He coughed trying not to
inhale. He wondered if the wind he felt on his face was a sign.
He opens the hood, BAM, More smoke than he has ever
seen before hit his face! It was obvious his engine had over
heated.
He grabbed his phone to call for help, but it wouldn’t turn
on. Then he remembered that he forgot to plug it in last night
after he did his one hour long gaming time. He was well over 5
miles away from his house when he saw a car coming down the
road. It was the police car. He called for help. The car pulls over
and the cop asks,”what happened here?”
Phil told him,” What happened” He gave Phil a ride.
Soon after being picked up, the cop said he was running low
on gas and would need to fill up at the next gas station, but it
was already 10:35. Phil started asking how long it would take.
The cop said “around 15 minutes.” Phil explained that he
needed to get to work.
The cop said “Ok, I think we can make it.”
They finally got to his workplace. The
building was a three story building with
windows all the way around and had a granite
staircase leading up to it. It had a blue neon
sign above the entrance that is a big CG
meaning Computer Games. It is 10:55. He is
late. Phil thanks him, and they wave goodbye.
He stands on the first step. He breaths a
deep breath. He wonders if he will need a new
job after this. He might get a job as a
construction worker. No, he was not strong
enough. Maybe, cashier at Billy's Quick Stop.
“No I love this job, I need this job.” He went
up step by step, lifting his leg, extending and
putting down. He took his time, then he thought,
“Wait, I should hurry.” He sprinted to the door
and grabbed the handle and pulled.
His boss heard the door
open and looked to see
Phil. He was running at full
speed at Phil. To Phil it was
all slow motion, as his boss
got a step closer. He was
closing his eyes more and
more until his boss got
there and screamed at the
top of his lungs,”WHERE
THE HECK HAVE YOU
BEEN, YOU KNOW I COULD
FIRE YOU RIGHT
NOW,”yelled Phil’s boss.
All Phil could say was
“Sorry” He watched the
birds on the other side of
the street fly away. Flap by
flap by flap. His boss went
away, and Phil got to work.
Phil was thirsty after all
he did also get water at the
Donut Shop. He couldn’t go
today though because of the
engine. So he walked to the
water dispenser, and his
boss walked over and said,
“He is sorry.”
Phil downed the water and went to his desk.
It is lunchtime, and Phil packed his lunch full,
but he saw that his boss forgot to pack his
lunch. Phil shared his lunch with his boss.
Phil went to get some
pop at the gas station
because he forgot to pack
a drink. He would have to
walk, so he did. He saw a
cop calling for help. Phil
went over to give him help,
and he noticed it was the
same cop that helped him
before Phil asked him what
happened, and he said that
he ran out of gas, and he
hurt his back so Phil
bought three pops, one for
Phil, one for his boss, and
one for the cop.
The cop thanked him, and Phil carried the
gas cans to the cop’s car and filled it up for him,
and they waved goodbye again.
Phil went back to his workplace. His boss was
still waiting at Phil’s desk. Phil gave him the pop,
his boss asked how he knew that that was his
favorite pop, they shared a laugh. When Phil’s boss
was gone Phil thought about what he had learned,
what he had learned was to get a new car and
thought about what kind of car he wanted. Today
was not totally a bad day.
