Monarch accomplishes its mission by providing comprehensive

Monarch serves 300 students daily and offers an accredited educa-
tion, tutoring, after school program, athletics, creative arts, counsel-

such as food and clothing, health care and family assistance.
Monarch School is a public-private partnership between the San
Diego County Office of Education and the nonprofit Monarch School
Project.
Our Students
Currently there are nearly 22,000 homeless students in San Diego
County. Monarch School’s role in the community is to serve students
impacted by the most severe cases of chronic homelessness and ad-
dress the related academic disruption they have experienced.
Monarch students live in family shelters, shelters for victims of do-
mestic violence, teen shelters, motels, in vehicles with their families,
or doubled-up with other families. They’ve often been absent from
school for long periods of time and are achieving below grade level
when they enroll.
Monarch removes barriers typically encountered by homeless stu-
dents and provides programs and services not offered at traditional
schools. Our program is designed to help students achieve and sur-
pass grade level proficiencies in a welcoming, supportive and aca-
demically rigorous environment.
Preparing Students for Future Success
Key new programs at Monarch provide students with the support
they need to successfully transition from high school to postsec-
ondary education, employment and life management.
Monarch’s new career academy, the Launch Pointe, opens in No-
vember and will provide Career Technical Education with hands-on
projects and work-based learning in partnership with industry ex-
perts. Monarch’s Internship Program prepares students for employ-
ment through on-the-job training at local companies supplemented
by classroom education in workforce readiness.

Artist Extraordinaire ARTIST EXTRAORDINAIRE SCOTT JACOBS
Scott Jacobs
W ith a career now spanning three decades and counting, artist Scott Ja-
cobs has consistently reached and then surpassed new heights. First
recognized by Harley-Davidson Motor Company for his artistic talent,
he was signed by them to a long term contract. Since then, Scott has
expanded into different genres entering himself into the mainstream of
the fine art community. Included on that list is imagery of Marilyn
Monroe, Elvis Presley, Corvette, Ford GT and Mustang, exotic cars, wine
still life’s, flowers, and more. The common theme of his work; regard-
less of the subject is his hyper-photorealism. It is his mastery of that
style that has enamored audiences worldwide. People from the west
coast to Eastern Europe and beyond enjoy his work as it currently
hangs in more than 90 countries and over 30 museums.
Scott’s medium of choice is acrylic on Belgian linen and his tool is a
paintbrush smaller than a pencil. Scott works from photographs but
draws each and every subject out freehand with a pencil. He then be-
gins the blocking in process and blending of multiple colors to achieve
the desired values for a particular work. It is an arduous procedure
that few artists would dare undertake. His reward is witnessing his col-
lectors’ reaction when they see the finished product for the first time.
With that, Scott has had a career of success few artists can claim.
After years of achievement as an artist, Scott decided to get back
into the retail business by opening his own gallery in San Elijo Hills
called, Scott Jacobs Studio Art Gallery & Framing. This is a place where
the public can now view Scott’s originals, prints, and small products
while learning more about him. The gallery also includes a studio

San Diego area.” Gilbertson, the Chief Judge Emeritus for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, as
my mentor and Chief Honorary Judge. We have an incredible team of returning
CLASS JUDGES judges and this year we have selected several new judges from across America.
Something new for this year’s Concours will be a slightly different judging for-
mat. We will be adopting the principles and values of the International Chief Judge
Advisory Group (ICJAG). This means we will be using international standards to
judge the originality and authenticity of the entries, as well as the elegance and
special character of the cars. As a result we will have an event that not only pres-
ents a beautiful display of rolling sculpture, but one that makes a very significant
contribution to the preservation of vehicles in their original state. This will be
something that future generations will then appreciate and enjoy.
The La Jolla Concours is the sole true concours in the San Diego area. The organ-
izing committee is so specialized that they fully understand the importance of the
event for the collectors, enthusiasts as well as the spectators.
The combination of outstanding vehicles, knowledgeable judges and the spec-
tacular grounds of La Jolla Cove constitutes a perfect recipe for a spectacular
event. I hope that a great deal of enjoyment is had by everyone in attendance.
