1996 - 20 year reunion
On Saturday, 18 June the Class of 1996 got together for a 20 year
reunion. It was held in the VP room at The Glenelg Club, and although
it didn’t see as many people as the 10 year reunion did, it was still a
great night. There were approximately 50 old scholars and a handful
of partners. The night started off slow as people became reacquainted
but then as the night progressed there were many laughs, memories
shared, some dancing and a fabulous impromptu speech given by ex-
boarder, Damian Wells. What he said was so true – even though life
seems to fly by at a very rapid pace – and a lot of us are now married,
kids or even living away, it was so great to make the time and catch
up with old mates. We were so lucky in our year to have formed such
strong and lifelong friendships. There were a few that even made the
effort to travel to Adelaide for the night – and this was very much
appreciated.
Having the year books there on the night to look back and reflect was
brilliant (although it was a slap in the face to realise how much we
really do age in 20 years – we just looked like kids in ‘96) but funny
to reminisce nonetheless. To be honest, personally I felt that no one
has really changed – and it was lovely to hear what is going on with
people and where the last 20 years has taken them.
We were having so much fun, the bar staff struggled to get us to
leave at 1am. But in true ‘Class of 96’ fashion, we were not ready to
call it a night so we decided to head
over the road to the Holdfast Hotel
and kick on.
All in all it was a very successful
night and now I eagerly await the
30 year reunion.

marymount celebrates 60 years
Marymount College community celebrated its 60th year anniversary with a feast of the Nativity Mass and the unveiling of a
new sculpture of Our Lady on 9 September.
Founded by the Good Samaritans in 1956, two years after Archbishop Beovich invited them to establish the Stella Maris
Primary School at Seacombe Gardens, the secondary college became a middle school in 1979 as part of the three-tiered
south-west region, and was relocated to larger grounds at Hove in June 2000.
Good Samaritan Sisters from around Australia and past principals attended the anniversary Mass which was celebrated by
Archbishop Wilson in the Polding Centre.
Three generations of Marymount students Vicki Wood (nee Marks) (OS 56-61), Lisa Cooper (nee Wood (OS 81-84) and
Tianna Cooper (OS 11-14) brought forward the college symbols in the entrance possession.
Archbishop Wilson and students unveiled a papal blessing for the school. Current Principal, Maria Canala, said the college
continued to promote the
values of justice, peace,
courage, service and
forgiveness. She said from
the beginning, students
had been encouraged to
strive for excellence in
academic subjects, music,
art and sport.
Year 6 students Sarah and
Gabby, Catholic identity
ambassadors, shared the
context and background
of the new sculpture of
Mary located in the school
garden.
Artist Gerry McMahon
explained that students
and staff, in particular
APRIM Christina Jonas,
had been instrumental in
the final portrayal of Mary
as a young girl holding a
woven basket. He said
they wanted a warm
hearted, approachable
and down to earth Mary.
