Dear Friends,

Welcome to this very special event — a fusion of our Medallion Society Luncheon and our Bel Canto Legacy Society Afternoon Tea. It
means the world to be together today and I want to thank each of you for your devotion to the Company and for all you are doing to make
possible our return.

I often think of opera through the lens of a journey: a journey of creative energy, of discovery, of transformation. Opera is not a passive art
form; it invites us into multi-sensory worlds onstage and has the power to change our outlook on the world.

This year has been a journey unlike anything we have ever experienced. We suddenly had to go without experiences and interactions that
had defined our lives for years and, through imposed absence, we came to realize anew what certain things meant to us. But for the Opera,
this last year has not been one of stasis. Because of you all, the journey of the Opera has been a forward looking one.

You are enabling us to pay hundreds of artists, musicians and crew members in a way quite unique in the world. You donated to the
Company Relief Challenge at the end of last year with heartfelt generosity. And you have brought encouragement and ebullient
horn-honking to our Barber of Seville and Adler concert in a thrilling affirmation of the Company’s drive for innovation. Thank you for
believing in us as we have gone through this unique year.

In just a few months, we officially welcome Eun Sun Kim to be our new Music Director! The devotion of the philanthropic community to the
Opera means that Eun Sun is joining us at a time when we can look to the future with optimism and creative vision — beginning a new and
thrilling chapter as we turn the page to our second century. I look forward to celebrating Eun Sun and all of you!!

THE ADLER FELLOWSHIP PROGR AM

Founded in 1977, the Adler Fellowship program is a two-year performance-oriented residency for highly talented opera singers
and pianists. Each year, a select group of young artists from the Merola Opera Program are invited to continue their education
as Adler Fellows. The program has trained some of today’s most celebrated opera stars, including sopranos Nadine Sierra,
Leah Crocetto, Patricia Racette, Ruth Ann Swenson, Elza van den Heever, Carol Vaness, and Deborah Voigt; mezzo-sopranos
Daniela Mack and Dolora Zajick; tenors Brian Jadge, Alek Shrader, Noah Stewart, and Sean Panikkar; baritones Mark Delavan
and Lucas Meachem; and bass-baritones John Relyea and Daniel Sumegi.

Under the leadership of Opera Center Artistic Director Carrie-Ann Matheson and General Manager Markus Beam, the
Adler Fellows receive comprehensive training tailored to their individual artistic needs and professional goals. This includes
intensive instruction in vocal or piano technique, musical interpretation, diction, foreign languages, and stage craft, as well
as career development support in areas such as PR and branding, mental health and resilience, and financial planning.
Adler Fellows receive salaried contracts with full benefits and over the course of their tenure in the program are normally
offered roles of increasing importance during San Francisco Opera’s mainstage season. Luminaries such as Ana Maria Martinez,
Sondra Radvanovsky, Joyce DiDonato, Jane Eaglen, Marilyn Horne, Eric Owens, Maestro Yves Abel, and San Francisco Opera
Music Director Designate Eun Sun Kim have all conducted master classes with the Adler Fellows.
