The March on washington

The march on washington was on August 28,1963.There were over 250000 civil rights
activist gathered in washington D.C to help the cause of civil rights.It was a march for
jobs and freedoms.Martin luther king jr gave his famous speech here and they had
many more people speaking at this event.

Who was MLK ?Was he even important?Well he was an African American leader who
was very important.He was known for his tireless leadership in the civil rights
movement.He also won a nobal peace prize and helped the civil rights movement.He
did such things like the march on washington to bus boycotts.

S.C.L.C

SLCC stands for southern christian leadership conference. It was an organization
that planned rallies,marches,and boycotts. They were also very active through out
the civil rights movement.They are still active today and focus on health
care,prison reform,fair treatment of refugees,and job site safety.

S.N.C.C

SNCC stands for student nonviolent coordinating commitee.They were a major
civil rights organization made up of high schoolers and college aged
students.They did sit-ins,freedom rides,and the freedom “summer”.They also
helped African Americans gain several General assembly seats.They were also at
the march to washington.

John Lewis

John lewis participated in many of the events in the fight for civil rights.He
participated in freedom rides,sit-ins,and protested jim crow laws.He also became the
chair of the S.N.C.C.He was also a keynote speaker at the 1963 march on washington
for jobs and freedom.He was also elected into congress later on.

The albany movement

Due to success other cities decided to try and do the same.They decided to do
this in Albany Georgia.Starting in the fall in 1961 members of the SNCC and the
local community began to protest the city.They bran MLK ro help protest to
draw attention.In the end this movement was not very successful.

State flag

As we know all states have a state flag.So you can guess that Georgia has one too.Well
Georgia had changed its flag multiple of times and one reason why was because they
were not happy about the board vs. education claim.The board vs education was a case
were they were fighting to desegregate public schools and won.They did not want to
integrate so to show that they didn’t agree with this they changed the flag.Then later
on they changed the flag in 2001 and then in 2004.

Lester maddox

Lester maddox was Georgia’s governor and caused a lot of change in Georgia.He
supported segregation.Maddox owned the pickrick cafeteria in Georgia and would not
serve african americans.After a while he got charged because he did not want to serve
them but instead he decided to close down the shop and rather do that then serve
African Americans.Later on when he got into office he did something unexpected.He
appointed more African Americans into government positions the any other governor.

Andrew young

Andrew young worked in the SCLC and began organizing citizenship schools.He also
helped in organizing and taking part in non violent protest.He helped improve
Georgia in many ways.Later on in 1972 he began his political career.In this time he
improved improved Atlanta by bringing $70 billion in new private investment in the
city.He also helped people get jobs and helped students educationally.

1996 olympic games

The 1996 olympic games were hosted in Atlanta Georgia.In order to host it they
prepared by building sport venues,repaired sidewalks,parks,and added more
hotels.The olympics brought a lot of tourism to Georgia.It also helped Georgia’s
economy a lot and they started to make more revenue.

Immigration

More immigrants were starting to arrive in Georgia .This made more jobs and
helped the economy in many ways,There were alot of immigrants showing up from
latin America.These immigrants benefited Georgia in many ways and did many type
of jobs such as manual labor and main street business.

Ivan allen

Ivan allen was the mayor of Atlanta.He made many improvements to Georgia.He
brought many sports to Atlanta improving Georgia’s economy.He also convinced
leaders to financially support the building of stadiums.Now he has left us
stadiums and many more things that Georgia uses to bring more revenue.

Jimmy carter

Jimmy carter played many roles here in Georgia.He was the state
senator,governor,and he was the only person from Georgia elected President.As
governor he was well known for reorganization of state government and his
consolidation of state agencies.As president he achieved the camp david peace
accords and the strategic arms limitation treaty.As the states senator he advocated
for education and served the S.E.C.He accomplished many things and helped
improve Georgia educational,justice,and mental health systems.

Atlanta

The city of Atlanta is an important part to Georgia.Such as things as trade and
tourism.It is one of the biggest cities here in Georgia.This is also were many big
events are held.It has brought a lot of success to Georgia and its people.

Population

The Population in Georgia has increased by a lot. This is due to many reasons.A major
reason would be the Olympics it brought many people into Georgia.After they saw how
nice it was here they decided to stay.This caused the population to increase and caused
there to be more jobs causing more improvements in Georgia.
