FPHS STRATEGIC PLAN 2022 - 2025 62 People who make up the workforce of an institution and contribute their knowledge and skills are assets to the institution. Human resource planning is important in identifying current and future human resources needs for the institution to achieve its goals. It serves as a link between human resource management and the overall strategic plan of an organization. Out of the six programmes in the FPHS, 2 programmes are under the purview of a national accreditation organisation. These programmes are the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons.) and Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Technology (Hons.). The national accreditation bodies are the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia (PBM) for the former and the Malaysian Board of Technologist (MBOT) for the latter. It is well understood that the fulfilment of the ratio of lecturers to students is a compulsory requirement of the Boards and should not be overlooked for the quality of the programmes to be maintained. The overall ratio of lecturers to students according to PBM is 1:10 and for ratio in the clinical years is 1:8; while for MBOT the required ratio is 1:15. The current overall ratio of lecturers to students for the Bachelor of Pharmacy Programme is 1:11.7 and for the Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Technology is 1:20.8. Currently, both programmes do not fulfil the requirements of both the accreditation bodies. For programmes to be able to undertake the strategies outlined for the next 4 years, it is imperative for the faculty to have corresponding strategies for the maintenance of the quality of all programmes and retention of academicians within the faculty. The main thrusts in the human resource planning include academician to students’ ratio, promotion, and professional development.
