ANAESTHESIOLOGY

After graduating with an MBBS degree from Universiti Malaya in 1996, Dr.
Vinodh was posted to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah where he worked for nearly 4
years. In 2000, he moved to work in the United Kingdom for specialist training,
initially in North London then as a registrar at Addenbrookes Hospital,
Cambridge. He obtained his FRCA in London in 2003 and then decided to
pursue Paediatric Anaesthesia and Intensive Care as a subspecialty. To this end,
he underwent a year of fellowship at Great Ormond Street Hospital for
Children in 2005.

After obtaining his CCT in 2007, he returned to Sabah to be the Paediatric
Anaesthetic Consultant with Hospital Likas and joined Gleneagles Hospital
Kota Kinabalu upon its opening in May 2015.

Dr. Devindran was awarded a government scholarship for him to pursue his
MBBS (UM) in 1996 after completing STPM. He also obtained his Masters in
Anaesthesiology (UM) in 2003.

After completing his housemanship in Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), he
became an Anaesthetic Medical Officer in QEH, where he did anaesthesia
including neuro and paediatric cases. Dr. Devindran has been practicing in the
field of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care for 15 years, and in the Pantai Hospital
Group for 10 years.

Dr. Rajesh Kumar graduated from National University of Malaysia (UKM) in
2002. He completed his internship in Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Hospital
Tawau. Dr Rajesh completed his Masters in Anaesthesia in USM and later
obtained his Fellowship in Interventional Pain Management (FIPM). He is a
certified Hyperbaric Medicine Specialist, Basic Life Support (BLS) & Advanced
Life Support (ALS) Trainer, and High Fidelity Medical Simulation Trainer.

Dr Rajesh has a special interest in non–surgical intervention for chronic pain
and is experienced in the management of back pain, cancer pain, knee and
other joint related pain. He assisted in the set up of the current Pain Clinic in
Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

He has presented papers at international and national medical conferences
and has multiple publications in medical journals. He is a life member of
Malaysian Association for the Study of Pain (MASP), member of Malaysian
Society of Anaesthesia (MSA) and Malaysian Medical Association (MMA).

Dr. Ahmad A.Z. Anwar CARDIOLOGY

MB, BCH, BAO, MRCP (IRELAND) Dr. Ashraf completed his undergraduate medical training at The Royal College
of Surgeons, Ireland in 2000. After 5 years of internal medicine training, he
began his specialist training in Clinical Cardiology in 2005.

In 2007, Dr Ashraf joined the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital Dublin as
a Clinical and Interventional Cardiology Specialist. The Mater Hospital is the
National Heart and Lung Centre for Ireland, and is the tertiary referral centre for
advanced, complicated and end-stage cardiac disease.

In 2010, Dr Ashraf was appointed as the first ever Interventional Fellow in
Cardiology at the Mater Hospital. He spent the next 3 years training in
advanced interventional cardiology. His specialty is in Primary Angioplasty (the
definitive treatment for Acute Myocardial Infarction), and complex coronary
anatomy, including chronic occlusion of coronary arteries. He performs the
majority of his cases through the radial artery of the wrist, which allows
patients to mobilize earlier, and reduces the risk of major bleeding
complications.

CARDIOLOGY

Dr. Chu Chong Mow obtained his medical degree from Dalhousie University,
Canada. He has vast experience in internal medicine. He is accredited as a
member of Royal College of Physician (MRCP), Glasgow, UK. He further
pursued his sub-specialty training in general cardiology, cardiac imaging and
interventional cardiology.

As Interventional Cardiologist, Dr Chu is also qualified in diagnostic imaging
including cardiac echocardiography (BECC certified). CT coronary
angiography and non-invasive stress testing. His area of specialty includes
invasive coronary angiography, complex coronary angioplasty, device
implantation (pacemaker and defibrillator), invasive cardiac catherization,
congenital heart disease-ASD closure and valvuloplasty. He is actively involved
in multiple researches and publications. He has special interest in valvular heart
disease, cardiac rehabilitation and myocardial infarction.

CARDIOLOGY

Dr. Ma Kian Fung @ Gordon completed his undergraduate medical degree
MBBS in 2006 at the International Medical University Malaysia. He obtained
Membership of Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 2011, and was gazetted as
an internal medicine specialist by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in 2013. He
underwent cardiology fellowship training with the MOH and has trained in the
United Kingdom for 2 years in Advanced Cardiac Imaging, obtaining Level 3
SCMR and EACVI CMR accreditation in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging,
and UK British Society of Echocardiography accreditations in Transthoracic
Echocardiography and Transoesophageal echocardiography. He is also
independent in CT coronary angiography reporting with British Society of
Cardiovascular Imaging Level 2 accreditation in Cardiac Computed
Tomography. He is also involved in cardiovascular research in dyslipidemia,
cardiovascular intervention, heart failure and cardiac MRI imaging.

Dr. Abu Bakar Bin CARDIOTHORACIC SURGERY

Dr. Abu Bakar is a certified National Specialist Registry (NSR)
MD(UKM) MS in General Surgery(UKM) cardiothoracic surgeon. He obtained his Medical Degree in 1996 and Master in
General Surgery in 2004, both from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He
started as a House Officer in Kota Bahru General Hospital, Kelantan before
coming over to Sabah, to become a Medical Officer at Kudat district hospital.
He then moved to become a Senior Registrar at the General Surgery
Department in Queen Elizabeth Hospital and he subsequently became a
general surgeon in QEH. He pursued in Cardiothoracic Surgery in IJN from
2005 until 2011 and worked as a Cardiothoracic Surgeon in QEH 2 from 2012
until 2014. Dr Abu is very experienced in doing CABG including off pump
CABG, mitral valve replacement and mitral valve repair surgery, aortic valve
surgery and aortic root procedure. He is proficient in managing critically ill
cardiothoracic patient and has assisted in a large number of simple to complex

Dr. John Cheng has been in private practice since 2001. He received his basic
medical education at the University of Aberdeen and went on to train in
Gastroenterology and Hepatology both in UK and Malaysia.

He majored in therapeutic and diagnostic gastrointestinal endoscopy, and
subsequently completed his fellowship in advanced Hepatobiliary endoscopy

Dr. Timothy William is one of the leading experts in Infectious Diseases in
Malaysia and in South East Asia. His expertise includes Malaria, Dengue,
Tuberculosis, STDs and AIDS. He was awarded the prestigious Merdeka Award
in 2017 for his work on P.knowlesi malaria. He has served as a WHO expert
adviser in this disease. He also has  20 years of experience as a General

Dr. Chris Chong received his Medical Degree from Universiti Kebangsaan

Datuk Dr. (Mr.) Pulivendhan Sellamuthu is a dynamic and vastly experienced
surgeon. He received his MBBS from Manipal University, India. This was
followed by his FRCS in General Surgery from Edinburgh and subsequently
FRCS in Surgical Neurology.

A highly dedicated neurosurgeon, Mr Puli, as he is fondly known, is a trailblazer
in his field in Sabah as he commenced in-house neurosurgical services this
state. While well-versed in trauma surgery, cerebrospinal fluid diversion
procedures and re-constructive methods, Mr. Puli shows particular interest in
endoscopic, neurovascular, tumour as well as spine surgery. He has also
overseen the training of many other neurosurgeons and has extensive

Dr. Alagammai graduated from Bangalore University in 1997. Subsequently,
MBBS (Bangalore), Masters O&G (UKM) she worked in the emergency as well as the psychiatric department till 2001,
after which she began her journey in OBGYN. She commenced her training as
a medical officer in Queen Elizabeth Hospital and later in Sabah Women and
Children Hospital (SWACH). She obtained her postgraduate degree from
University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2009 and returned to serve the
people in the state of Sabah. She worked as a specialist in SWACH which has
the highest delivery rate in Malaysia.

She underwent further training in Ultrasonography in Chennai, Basic IUI and
Semenology (basic fertility treatments) from EART (accredited by Embrology
and PGD Academy UK) and advanced laparoscopic training in Kerala. Dr
Gammai is able to handle most obstetric and gynaecological conditions with
special interest in subfertility and fetomaternal. She is also keen on performing
key hole surgeries for gynaecological conditions.

He has worked with the Ministry of Health in Hospital Queen Elizabeth, Kota
Kinabalu; Hospital Papar, Sabah; Hospital Miri, Sarawak and Hospital Ampang
in Selangor. He has helped to initiate the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit in
Hospital Ampang in the year 2007-09, when it first started as a nucleus
hospital in Selangor.

In 2010, he moved on to join Metro Maternity Hospital in Klang, running its
general O&G services and infertility unit, together with renowned infertility
expert Dr. Tee SP. In 2013, the infertility unit in Hospital Wanita Metro took on a
bigger role and became Metro IVF. Currently still training with Metro IVF, Dr.

MS Ophthalmology (UKM) 1998 and passed the International Council of Ophthalmology examination in

returned to serve as the Head of Spine Service for the State of Sabah, Malaysia

Board-certified Consultant Plastic and Laser Surgeon Dr. Charles Lee
graduated from the University of Mysore in 1976. He was conferred a Fellow of
the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Ireland in 1984. Dr
Lee did his Postgraduate Plastic Surgery fellowship training at the Bangour
General Hospital, Edinburgh, Scotland; Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge
and Frenchay Hospital, Bristol, England. He was subsequently gazetted as a
Clinical Specialist in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery by the Ministry of Health,

Dr. Eleen Chong received her basic medical training at the Kasturba Medical
College,India and her sub specialty training in the field of rheumatology at Tan
Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore and Selayang Hospital, Selangor.

In 2009, the first clinical trial in rheumatoid arthritis in Sabah was initiated by Dr.
Eleen in collaboration with international pharmaceutical industry. Since then,

Datin Dr. Rohamini Sibin graduated from National University of Malaysia (UKM)
in 1996 and obtained her Master’s in Surgery in 2003, also from UKM. A
certified Advance Trauma Life Support Provider and a certified Medical
Impairment Assessor (CMIA), she attended IRCAD Taiwan General Surgery
Course and Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery Attachment in Vietnam. She is
also the President of Sabah Surgical Society based in QEH.

She is an invited UMS lecturer, Ministry of Health (MOH) trainer for Master of

Dr. Liau Kui Hin Dr. Liau Kui Hin is the director & senior consultant surgeon of Nexus Surgical
