We offer a Dear Hatfield Heath Residents,

Many of us will have already ditched the New

Perhaps the following is a better question at the start

email Unfortunately there sometimes seems to be a feeling
nowadays that the future will not be much to look
forward to. I wonder have we lost our sense of
dreaming? Or have people become so individualistic
that they have lost the ability to make any big
changes in our society.
In January Holy Trinity church celebrated the
Christian celebration of Epiphany. We remembered
the Wise Men (the 3 Kings) who came to see Jesus.
They set out on a journey to follow their dreams,
hoping to see the new born king. They found the
answer in the baby Jesus born in Bethlehem. And
many Billions of people have found answers to
life’s dreams in the same Jesus ever since.
So what are you looking forward to this year? What
are your hopes? If they are important to you, why
not share them with someone else. That is often the
first step to making them happen……
Best wishes,
Stewart

EMAIL WRITTEN PHIL SNELL

ON NEW YEARS EVE General Building & Maintenance

Being a long term resident of Broomfields but an Conversions, Bathrooms, Kitchens
"incomer" to the village, I have always felt that the one Plastering, Brickwork, Decorating
thing you need to do in a village is to respect the ethos of Call for Free Advice & Estimates
the village and the people in it and be part of what is 01279 739 136 or 07900 694 664
generally a good community.
The term "incomer" could be used for a lot of residents FULLY INSURED
who have given much to the village , however I have
recently realised that times are changing. 13013 January to December 2013
We all celebrate Christmas and the new year and on
receiving Christmas card from our new neighbours MHS Builders
stating that they would be having a new years party we Local Builder
thought fair enough. however, news years eve arrived Carpentry & Roofing
and at 7pm the music in a marquee in a garden started Loft and Garage conversions
and although detached from them our walls were Kitchens & Bathrooms
vibrating, by 9pm we actually measured the decibels at Plastering
that side of our house at in excess of 100dB. By 1am Extensions
after they had seen the new year in the music was at the references available on request
same level.
At 1.15am we knocked on the door and politely asked for Call Mark Savage
the music to be turned down as we felt we were being
more than fair and needed to get to sleep. At 1.30am we 13 25 January to December 2013
asked again that they stop the music and were ignored.
We tried the normal route of phoning police but were Closed Mon
told that they could log a complaint but had no power to Open 9 -5 Tues - Thurs
put a stop to the disturbance, we spoke to the out of hours
services for Uttlesford Council and were told that they 9 -6 Fri
would log the complaint but nothing would be done until 9 -4 Sat
2nd January when they returned to work. Gents Welcome
I am sitting here a 2.15am writing this e-mail unable to Free Parking
go to bed as the music is still playing at the same level
and the walls in our bedroom are vibrating with the
noise.
Whilst I do not want to be a kill joy and appreciate
people have parties all I ask for is a little respect, having
spoken to neighbours from the flats in Wagon Mead and
the pensioners housing in the estate who could all hear it
clearly, it is down to simple respect for the community
that I would like to see, We do have a large number of
older people within this estate that must also be stressing
about this disturbance. Can I please ask that simple
Respect is taken into account when living in a small
community like ours and maybe we can all have a better
community.

FOUND CARPET & UPHOLSTERY
Professional Cleaning
During one of the Christmas
services, Peter Rabbit escaped
from his young owner and was
found lying outside the church
feeling very sorry for himself. He
was in a dreadful state, very dirty
and soaking wet.
However he has been nursed back
to health and cleanliness and has
taken up residence on the font from where he
can be collected during daylight hours.

INDOOR

BOWLS

AT HATFIELD HEATH

OPEN TO ALL AGES

MAKING IT A GOOD PASTIME FOR
COUPLES AND DIFFERENT

GENERATIONS OF THE FAMILY.
Indoor carpet bowls has been played in Hatfield
Heath for some 20 years and is open to all from
Hatfield Heath and the surrounding towns and
villages. A league runs from September to May
giving a sociable competition on those dark
winter nights. The game is played on mats 30
feet long and is open to all ages making it a
good pastime for couples and different
generations of the family. Most people can pick
the game up quickly and, beginner or
experienced player, we do our best to fit you
into a team. On Mondays at 4:00pm there is an
informal session where members can arrange
games among themselves or just practice and at
7:30pm and 9:00pm there are league games in
teams of 4. If you would like to join us just turn
up to one of the sessions. All you will need flat-
soled indoor shoes and £2 per session. The Club
has bowls for you to use or, if you have them,
bring your own. Sessions are at Hatfield Heath
Village Hall.

increase of one new runway in the South East by

2030 and possibly a second runway by 2050. The

shortlist comprises two options at Heathrow – a new

runway to the north west of the existing runways or a

doubling of the length of Heathrow’s northern

runway to over 6,000 metres to be used

simultaneously for take-offs and landings – and a

second runway at Gatwick. However, Gatwick has

said this won’t happen if Heathrow gets the go-

ahead.

“Uncertainties and challenges” meant that none of

the Thames Estuary options could be included on the

shortlist at this stage, said Sir Howard Davies, but

the Isle of Grain option would be studied further

over the next six months and may then be added to

the shortlist. The leading options will be studied in

more detail before a public consultation in autumn

2014. A “final robust” recommendation will be made

to the Government in 2015, after the General

Election.

THE COMMISSION’S VIEWS ON STANSTED

The Commission said that an additional runway at

Stansted was ruled out because the airport was not

forecast to reach the capacity of its existing runway

until 2040. Rail journey times to London were longer

than other options and a new line would be required

to make significant improvements. It also listed

impact on listed buildings and higher airport charges

to fund debt requirement without government funds. Hatfield Haven Care Home
