SSE RESPONSE TO BAA'S Ltd
DECISION TO SELL GATWICK

AIRPORT

Stop Stansted Expansion (SSE) welcomes the floor coverings
announcement made by BAA today (17

The BAA announcement comes just four weeks
after the Competition Commission issued its Old Carpets Uplifted &Disposed of

BAA's monopoly was not in the public interest and
that it should sell two of its three London Airports. Steve & Donna
In effect this means Gatwick and Stansted because

As expected BAA intends to resist the
Commission's call for the sale of Stansted as well WILLS
as Gatwick. This is merely prolonging the agony. BUILDERS
The Commission's Provisional Findings report
catalogued BAA's many shortcomings and MERCHANTS
provided thorough and compelling evidence to
demonstrate the need for two of BAA's London Building, Timber, (01279)
airports to be sold. The Commission is highly Paving Plumbing,
unlikely to change this central conclusion, when it
publishes its final report next February, just 600 666Supplies TRADE & RETAIL

It is therefore a case of "one down, one to go" and The Maltings, Station Road Sawbridgeworth, Herts.
BAA's reluctance to accept the reality of that
situation means that Stansted's employees and the
local community face several months of
unnecessary anguish and uncertainty.
Commenting, SSE Campaign Director Carol

head from the Competition Commission for
putting Gatwick up for sale in a last ditch attempt
to retain ownership of Stansted. We expect it will
be sorely disappointed.”

found to be driven without any insurance and six people
arrested for non-motoring offences – historic crimes which

Despite criticism of road safety cameras, motorists in Essex
are learning that it pays not to speed after only 24,000 £60

previous period in 2004/05.
Essex County Council’s Network and safety manager,
Rosemary Welch, said: “The cameras have been quietly
working through the urban areas to reduce casualties, but
they are not the only tool being used. A programme of
engineering and education has and will continue to cut
unnecessary tragedy in Essex.”
