PROPOSED WORK IN

HOLY TRINITY CHURCHYARD Quiz ?

Later this autumn, if weather permits, we hope to
carry out some work in part of the churchyard on
some of the un-tended graves. The intention is to fill

in the hollows on those graves that have sunk, and

grade off the "humps" on others. If time allows we Ploughmans Lunch, Bar, Raffle
will then re-seed with new grass straight away,

alternatively that may have to wait until the spring. 4th October 7 for 7.30pm
We will of course take the utmost care not to disturb £10
any headstones, grave surrounds, or specially planted
graves. Tickets from Pam Langman
Thank you in advance for your understanding whilst 01279 730 240
this work is being carried out.

Last week saw the first classes of the Hatfield Heath LITTLE HALLINGBURY HALL
branch of Sawbridgeworth-based children’s performing
arts school, Diverse Performing Arts. ? ?QUIZ NIGHT

Diverse opened in Sawbridgeworth in October 2011, ? ?Friday November 7th
teaching students aged from 3 to 18 and with its weekly Tables of 8 - £5/head
classes in singing, dancing and acting proving a hit,
principal Ria Whitton (a Sawbridgeworth resident) has ? ?Sue Mayer 01279 723 814

Each class is taught by experienced teachers who are also
professional singers and actors who are still active in the
profession.

Ria explained more, saying “As the emphasis at Diverse Open Tues - Thurs 9 am-5 pm
is upon performing, our classes combine the three main Fri 9 am-6 pm
elements of performing arts, namely singing, dancing
and acting, in one class and the children learn not only Sat 9am-4pm
technique but also how to perform the skills they are
learning.

We believe that this helps to make the classes more
exciting for the children and the regular shows and other
public performances which Diverse is asked to provide
gets them used to performing in front of an audience
from a young age. Our Sawbridgeworth pupils also
performed in the West End in February and this is an

AMBULANCE TEAM OF CYCLIST WW1 PRISONERS OF WAR LOADING HAY

See pages 26 & 27 for more.......

While searching online I came across this colour
photo of POW’S and the story below....
Prisoner of War Camp 116 was set up in 1941 to
house Italian prisoners of war, and from 1943-1944
it mainly held German and Austrian prisoners.
The POW's were allowed out to work on the nearby
farms and one local has this memory of it......
"The Austrian and German prisoners of war were
kept in a camp at Hatfield Heath and sent out daily to
'help on the land'.
Our first batch were Austrian and they were hard
workers and Mum was so sorry for them she looked
at their ration for the day and promptly invited them
to share our food - they even ate with us.
The next lot were German and all but one of those
were also polite, hard workers and they too shared
our food and ate in the kitchen with us.
My biggest impression was the way they stood
whenever Mum got up and would never sit until she
too sat down”

(Mill Lane Camp, Hatfield Heath) conforms to the
so-called ‘Standard’ layout, with the guards’
compound consisting of MoWP huts, while the
living huts are all timber Laing huts.

Superb photos of Essex and Hertfordshire.
