Saint
Nicholas Chrissie is a print maker and painter living and working
in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire. She took up
Independent day school printing and painting just a few years ago and her initial
for girls & boys work was all about Ruff. ‘I love making work about Ruff;
aged 4 -16 years he always amazes me with his wonderful face and
interesting poses. Ruff usually sleeps on his beanbag in our
Open studio while I work’. Chrissie started out making linocut
Morning prints, but then she went on to teach herself to paint despite
being told at school that she couldn’t paint and should stick
saturday to drawing. ‘I really enjoy painting, although sometimes it
13th october can be extremely frustrating. I have learnt a lot from
10am - 12 noon studying other artists work, books and also from YouTube
videos, you can learn anything these days if you put your
Excellence in education for over 70 years mind to it.’ Although a lot of Chrissie’s recent work still
includes Westies, she has also added other dogs including

most challenging addition to her work is people; she paints

people and dogs sitting together. ‘Learning to paint people

has been one of the most difficult things I have done and I

am far from mastering it, but I relish the challenge, I

particularly like to bring people together with their dogs, if

the person I’m painting doesn’t have a dog I find them

one!’ Chrissie’s prints are usually in oil, but her paintings

are often done with Farrow & Ball paint, which gives them Email

a lovely depth of colour and a beautiful soft surface, rather Tel

an unusual departure from the often used Acrylics or Oils.

A wide range of work will be on offer including Original

paintings on canvas, framed originals, Giclee prints, cards

and also photographs of Ruff taken by her husband,

photographer, Spencer Richards. Both Chrissie and

Spencer can undertake commissions.

Chrissie currently has work for sale in The Tudor House

area, still under fire. He saw the enemy all
around in the field in which he was lying and
when they withdrew, at dawn, he decided to
move his position, but found that he was
behind some houses which the enemy
occupied by day. He spent the whole day in
this position, keeping observation on the
enemy movements, and saw the night
positions, that night, despite the fact that the
enemy were in position all around him. He
moved through their lines, making careful
notes of their positions, and reached his own
lines at 11.00 hours the following day.

He had spent 33 hours behind enemy lines,
displayed great initiative and personal
bravery and the information which he
supplied was extremely valuable.

WEDDING CONGRATULATIONS BACK ALREADY!
DAVID AND LESA
Hello fellow Hatfield Heathians! Here I am, back from
22nd SEPTEMBER Costa Rica, and what an experience it was!
Wishing you both many years Thanks so very much to each and every one of you who
contributed even a penny towards my expedition! It was
of health and happiness.
With All Our Love,

Mum, Dad, Tom, Saira, Luke and Zoe xxx

Happy Birthday

Joe

29th September

Lots of Love
Danny, Sue, Caroline & David

xxxx

Happy 1st Birthday extremely valuable to the community of Bijagua in North
West Costa Rica, and it was even more valuable to me.
DAISY McSWEENEY With your kind contributions, I was able to repaint their
village park, help construct a beautiful viewpoint over the
21st September 2012 volcano at a local farm, as well as partake in the much
appreciated work on the local school!
Love, Mummy, Daddy, Milly & Ruby xxxx On top of the 1 week community project, I was also able
to visit the diverse regions in Costa Rica: the bustling
Holy Trinity Church, Hatfield Heath streets of the capital city, San Jose; the beautiful mountain
range in the North East at the foot of the Arenal Volcano;
Harvest Festival and finally spending a relaxing 2 days on the Caribbean
Coast town of Puerto Viejo. Visiting these more tourist-
Sun 7th Oct friendly regions allowed me to notice the heavy contrast
with the countless underdeveloped areas, Bijagua being
9.30am Harvest Family Service just one of these. Like many third world countries, Costa
Rica has a powerful tourism industry (80% of their
6.30pm Harvest Evensong national income!) to disguise the poverty and the lack of
development, but this has become less effective since the
Costa Rican tourism industry was hit quite hard by the
recession.

My World Challenge expedition to Costa Rica was an
experience I’ll certainly never forget, and has inspired me
to travel around the world after university and perhaps get
involved in more charity work abroad. I would certainly
advise anyone who has the opportunity to get involved
with World Challenge to do so – if not through their
school, then you can contact them independently and
organise an expedition for you and a group of friends.
Thank you all one last time! I couldn’t have done it
without your support!
Enjoy the rest of the Summer break!
Cameron

lessons, so if you need babysitting, get hold of me on
