Fire at Skringils (Corringales)
Opening Hours
Mon - Fri 8am - 5.30pm Friday se'nnight a fire broke out upon a farm called
Skringels, the property of Mr. Bingham of Hatfield
Sat 9am - 1pm Broad Oak, Essex. There were two fires the same
evening upon this unfortunate persons premises.
Tel: 01279 730 274 The first fire began at a barn about a ¼ mile from
the dwelling house which was immediately so
involved in flames that no prospect appeared to the
alarmed neighbourhood of saving the property. The
barn was soon levelled with the earth, and with its
contents became one heap of rubbish. But what
horror will it excite in our readers, and with what
indignation will they receive the information when
they are told that about 8 o'clock thAensdarmeeweJveSnminigth,
2 barns nearly adjoining the dwelling house where
the son and daughter of Mr Bingham resided, were
discovered to be so enveloped with flames as to be
out of the reach of humans intervention to
extinguish them, the fire at one and the same time
burst out at different places. Very strong reasons
therefore exist to ground suspicion that the whole of
this melancholy and lamentable conflagration was
the work of some diabolical incendiary whose
wicked inventions have but too well succeeded in
the destruction of the whole of Mr Bingham's
property amounting to near £1000.

So now the disciples simply had to wait. For many,
waiting is a dreadful thing. Just ask any child. But it
doesn't have to be like this. Living between times,
living between occasions in which all of our minds
and hearts and energy are absorbed in affairs of
significance can, in fact, be quite wonderful. It can
be - for us - a pause that refreshes - a time in which
we gain strength - a time in which we quietly grow
and are prepared for that which will come next. God
knows that we need periods of rest - periods of
waiting - periods in which we can be changed -
refreshed - and renewed, lest we burn out. And God
provides to us periods of time which are times
between - periods in which we can be strengthened
and prepared for what is to come next. Use this in-

you will be prepared.

charges for Hatfield Heath organisations are 12/- per State Registered Chiropodist

depending on accommodation and facilities required.
Bookings are now being taken at the Post Office, or 01279 817 810
through the Hall Secretary, Mr. Claydon (Tel. 232).
Initial equipment for the new hall includes 120 new A professional service at a competitive rate
chairs and 30 new tables, and the kitchen will have a
large gas cooker. Virtually all of the equipment used Next Festival Date
in the old hall was infested with woodworm or Sunday 19th June 2011
otherwise unserviceable, and has been scrapped.
The Committee now needs £500 to cover the
outstanding costs of building the hall, and a further
£450 for initial equipment. Ultimately, at least
another £450 will be needed to complete equipment
purchases. A request has been made to the parish
Council for a £300 grant, and this is to be discussed
at their March meeting. They have already agreed,
however, that if any grant is made it will be from
their capital funds and will not be a charge on the
rates.
Fundraising efforts now being planned include
another Festival in June and a sequel to last year's
highly successful Hatfield Heath Ball at Down Hall
in May. On a humbler scale, the collection of used
postage stamps has already raised several pounds
and is to continue indefinitely. Stamps may be sent
to Mrs. Lines at 24 Cox Ley. At the same address
there will be a coffee morning on Tuesday, 17th
March in aid of hall funds.
