Hatfield Heath’s ‘Heath Players’

Win National Drama Awards

Local village drama group Heath Players recently
15037 Jan 2016 swept the board, winning five awards at the prestigious

National Drama Festivals Association All Winners
Festival held at Woking. This is the second time in
five years that Heath Players have won the Festival
which recognises the very best in amateur theatre.
The Players performed their production of William
Ivory’s ‘Bomber’s Moon’ which debuted at the
Hatfield Heath Village Hall in March and subsequently
won Hertford Theatre Week in April. This qualified
them for entry into the All Winners Festival where
they were pitted against groups from Halifax and
Manchester.
The play centred on the relationship between Jimmy (a
Lancaster gunner in WWII) and his carer David. The
action was set in the present but also featured
flashbacks to Jimmy’s wartime past.
After their performance at the Rhoda McGaw Theatre
they received a glowing adjudication from Paul Fowler
(adjudicator of the Festival).
All aspects of the production were praised, Chrissie
Richards astute direction, the brilliant acting of Martin
Bedwell as Jimmy and Lee Barnes as David, the
fimlatagainndaTthivihseetsadeieltegdduesnsingoenfr’wtshhpeiocSshtitadigoonuf,rbotlhmeeda1bt8ote4tnh0tiaosnJitmo mdeyta’sil
in set dressing and props, and finally, Spencer
Richards’s terrific sound design which aided by some
brilliant lighting effects managed to recreate the hellish
conditions of bombing raids over Germany.

215027 Dec 2015

At the awards ceremony on the final night the group Stage Set Of Bomber's Moon
took away five trophies as follows
Winner – The Mary Blakeman Trophy
Adjudicator Award – The Felixstowe Festival Award
Back stage – The Sydney Fisher Trophy
Audience Appreciation – The Halifax Evening Courier
Award
Best comedy moment or actor – John Scowen Award
In a moving tribute, the Players dedicated the winners’
award to the 55,000 members of Bomber Command
who lost their lives in the Second World War.
Anyone who would be interested in joining the group
in any capacity can contact Mark Ratcliff on 01279
503174 or [email protected].

Heath Players

Auditions 2 September

The Heath Players will be performing two radio 15035 Dec2015
scripts this Autumn.
“Hancock’s Half Hour” & “Clare in the Community”
Steve Foster will be in the director’s chair.
We will be holding auditions on Wednesday 2 Sep-
tember at 7.30pm onwards at ‘The Bungalow’, Dun-
mow Road.
Performances will be in the Village Hall on Friday
30 and Saturday 31 October.
The auditions are open to anyone, of any age and the
production will be an ideal opportunity for newcom-
ers to take a part. The production will take the form
of ‘rehearsed readings’ and we will seek to recreate
the atmosphere of the BBC recordings.
If you would like to get involved in any way either
on stage or behind the scenes please come along. If
you cannot make the date or want any further infor-
mation please contact Steve Foster on 01279 730690

be in this financial year.
ii. Potholes in Stortford Road. SB responded to
complaints regarding potholes in Stortford Road.
Reply from Highways is unacceptable stating that the

parish magazine advising residents and particularly
parents of schoolchildren that they are able to park there
to drop children off for school. This will obviously increase
the need for a pedestrian crossing which is being pursued.
ML is concerned that the Cricket Club are cutting the field
and causing ridges on the field. Clerk to write to the
Cricket Club.
CS asked about the closing of the road across the cricket
field on Saturday 1st August during a cricket match. Clerk
reported that he had contacted both ECC and UDC who
had not issued any road closure notices. Clerk has
researched the penalties and under S137 of the Highways
Act 1980, the penalty for wilfully obstructing the highway
is a fine not exceeding £1000. Clerk to write to the Cricket

BJ has spoken to Richard Barnett regarding cutting near
the war memorial which was restricted by the pansies that

Hatfield Heath Cricket Club

HHCC Junior Cricket

Junior cricket on the Heath has been resurrected this year and it's been a great success.
Numbers have gone up every week and feedback has been great. Thanks to all the volunteers
who've helped out and thanks to
the children for getting involved - learning and enjoying the game! The future's bright.
On Tuesday 21st July we had our first U10 game against Hockerill CC. It was a balmy summer's
evening with lots of spectators watching, plus the TV cameras of BBC Look East! It was a really
close game, with the Heath coming up just 2 runs short.

Huge thanks to our coaches Mark Welby and Mark Taylor for organising a fantastic event, and
also to our many volunteers who made the evening run smoothly
