VILLAGE HAPPENINGS AGETHE, TAI, BING AND ANDREW THANK YOU
Mai Tai Takeaway has been returned to the previous
Dear Bruno, owners Mr & Mrs Chan on 29 April 2008.
A very interesting edition of the Mag arrived this month & the Agethe, Tai, Bing and Andrew wish to thank all their
news & photographs of the Village Festival made me wish I friends and customers for their patronage over the

to the Heath to attend.
It set me thinking about my childhood days when the village Independent co-educational
Fete, as I suppose it was called in the '50s, was held on a day school and nursery
large field at the rear of the house owned by Mr & Mrs Pyle for 2 - 11 year olds
at the start of the Matching Road.
As I went to Waterside School in Bishop's Stortford, I was
friends with another pupil, Barry Pyle, & excitement always
mounted approaching the event as a LARGE slide was
constructed in the field with lengths of scaffolding, to be used
with doormats to hurtle to the bottom, which seemed a long
way down in those days. Knowing Barry, we were always able
to test it out incessantly beforehand, & for a couple of days
after the fete - free of charge!!!!!!!
Other attractions on the day I remember were Guess the
weight of the Cake; Bowling for a Pig (does this still happen
anywere, or is it now not acceptable for various reasons?).
One year, GREAT excitement was caused by a visit in the
evening of the event by The Don Cossack Riders, who hurtled
up & down the field on horseback performing many acrobatic
& athletic movements, such as picking up handerchiefs from the
ground as they hurtled past at speed! Down here in our albeit
lovely village is the annual plastic duckrace in the River
Lynher!
Happy memories,
Graham Anthony, Rilla Mill, Cornwall.

Surgeons, such as Dr Leo Cheng, regularly give
01279 730 544 their time and expertise to provide operations free-of-
charge - to reduce benign tumours which have extended
horrifically over many years without the opportunity of
treatment; to restore sight to the blind; to wipe away cleft-
lip-and-palate with all the sadness endured through lack
of prompt treatment, and where a faltering, smiling new
confidence emerges with the individual’s new
appearance; to provide a simple ninety minute operation
for ladies suffering ongoing incontinence following injury
in childbirth, due to a lack of obstetric care; to provide
orthopaedic operations to straighten bowed legs and club
feet.

Dental teams provide treatments and training.
Community development teams join with locals to build
clinics, water wells, sanitation, extending hospitals, and
training health care workers.

generous support from local schools, St Joseph’s and
