Definition: A form
of government
where a single
person has
complete power to
make any decisions
they want.

Advantages Of
Dictatorship!

● The citizens get no opposition
● The dictator gets no criticism
● The dictator has a strong government
● The dictator has all the power
● Dictatorship is the most efficient during

emergencies
● Dictatorship can be achieved quickly
● There is less crime because the

government is often run by the military
● There is less corruption because all laws

are very strict with harsh consequences

Disadvantages Of
Dictatorship

● Dictatorship can lead to abuse of power
● Dictators always oppress and suppress the

citizens
● Large numbers of innocent people are killed
● The population is never happy
● Laws can be changed at any time
● The nation becomes isolated
● The people live in fear because of harsh

conditions
● Citizens lose their basic freedoms
● The government controls the media so that the

people can only hear what they have to say

● One of the most famous dictators is Adolf Hitler. He is known
for the Nazi Germany of WWII.

● Mao Zedong was accused of the loss of roughly 70 million
lives through starvation, forced labour, suicide and execution.

● Muammar Gaddafi was the dictator of Libya. He tried to
escape death many times by traveling from place to place. He
died running through a field of gunfire
