Dressing for Success – Suitable Business Attire

A work dress code is a set of standards companies develop to help provide their
employees with guidance about what is appropriate to wear to work. Work dress
codes range from formal to business casual to casual. The formality of the
workplace dress code is normally determined by the amount of interaction
employees have with customers or clients.

Professional Business Dress – Sometimes professional business dress is called business formal. In a professional
business environment, the standard of dressing for men and women is a suit, a jacket and pants or a skirt, or a
dress paired with appropriate accessories. Following are recommendations:

 Slacks, Pants, and Suit Pants - Slacks that are similar to Dockers and other makers of cotton or synthetic
material pants, wool pants, flannel pants, pants that match a suit jacket, and nice looking dress synthetic
pants are acceptable. Inappropriate slacks or pants include any that are too informal. This includes jeans,
sweatpants, exercise pants, Bermuda shorts, short shorts, shorts, bib overalls, leggings, and any spandex or
other form-fitting pants such as people wear for exercise or biking.

 Skirts, Dresses, and Skirted Suits - Dresses, skirts, skirts with jackets, dressy two-piece knit suits or sets,
and skirts that are split at or below the knee are acceptable. Dress and skirt length should be at a length at
which you can sit comfortably in public. Short, tight skirts that ride halfway up the thigh are inappropriate
for work. Mini-skirts, skorts, sun dresses, beach dresses, and spaghetti-strap dresses are inappropriate.

 Shirts, Tops, Blouses, and Jackets - Shirts, dress shirts, sweaters, tops, and turtlenecks are acceptable attire
for work if they contribute to the appearance of formal, professional dress. Most suit jackets or sport coats
are also desirable attire for the office. Inappropriate attire for work includes tank tops; midriff tops; shirts
with potentially offensive words, terms, logos, pictures, cartoons, or slogans; halter-tops; tops with bare
shoulders or plunging necklines; golf-type shirts; sweatshirts; and t-shirts.

 Shoes and Footwear - Conservative walking shoes, dress shoes, oxfords, loafers, boots, flats, dress heels,
and backless shoes are acceptable for work. Not wearing stockings or socks is inappropriate. Athletic shoes,
tennis shoes, thongs, flip-flops, slippers, and any casual shoe with an open toe are not acceptable.

 Accessories and Jewelry - Tasteful, professional ties, scarves, belts, and jewelry are encouraged. Jewelry
should be worn in good taste, with limited visible body piercing.

 Makeup, Perfume, and Cologne - A professional appearance is encouraged and excessive makeup is
unprofessional. Remember that some employees are allergic to the chemicals in perfumes and makeup, so
wear these substances with restraint.

 Hats and Head Covering - Hats are not appropriate in the office. Head Covers that are required for religious
purposes or to honor cultural tradition are allowed.

How strong are you?

Strengths:

1. Reliable
2. Think outside the box
3. Creative
4. Hard worker
5. Quick learner

This set of strengths help me in my very day lifestyle. Being reliable helps when you are entrusted with
things that could important. Thinking outside the box helps because if there is no straight forward path
to do something then you have to think of something else to get through the path. Being creative helps
with thinking outside the box because you have to be creative to think of a solution. Being hardworking
helps because no matter the task I will get it done to the best of my ability. Quick learner helps because
if you are presented with a new task then you have to learn how to do it in a fast time.

Weakness:

1. Not using time wisely

One way I could overcome this weakness it that I could set myself some goals for every set amount
of time. As well with this set amount of time I could do something to which if I don’t complete my
task then I could have a consequence. Another thing is that instead of doing the task in one whole, I
could break it into different task and complete them. Another thing would be that I should always
be doing something and this will eventually lead to me not wasting time anymore. I should also use
the time I have to better myself.

How Strong Are You?

1. Have some knowledge of 3D plain programs (Inventor / Cinema 4D)
2. Faithful
3. Perseverance
4. Quite
5. Somewhat creative

The fact that I have minimal knowledge of a program like Inventor makes working with the
program much easier. I have a load of faith in myself and those around me, allowing me those
trust those around me to do their work. When issues crop up in my school projects, I will use
my perseverance will allow me to get that work done. The fact that I am a quite student allows
me to listen and get my work done without distraction. My somewhat creative nature allows
my projects to have some flair.

Weakness

1. High amounts of apathy

In all honesty, I have must reach this point due to anger. I will put it simply, if I stop
getting so full of myself I will actually start getting work done and get the gredes that I
know I can get.

How strong are you?

Strengths
1. Creative
2. Straight thinker
3. Dependable
4. Leader
5. Hard worker

My strengths allow me to have a different perspective when I comes to do an assignment
given to. I, being dependable allows me to have the trust of my partners and knowing that the
job will get done. Since I’m a hard worker, the effort that I put into will give the best that I have
for the assignment. Being a leader gives me the ability to take the lead and help point my group
in the right direction for work. My creativity allows me to put my own spin of things that other
people might have not been able.

Weaknesses

1. Procrastination

Procrastination is a major problem that I have in my personal and academic career too. I
have given myself many hardships that could of have been avoided if I would have done the
work or assignment before the last second. An example of this is a project in middle school that
I was given two whole weeks to complete but waited till the last two days to complete and
stayed up till 1 A.M. trying to finish the project. What I can do is to set time increments for
everything I do, so that I can keep track of work.
