Using the Computer and Minolta
Reader/Scanner With Microfiche and Microfilm
The Minolta Reader/Scanner and an attached computer are available on the Lower Level
South wing of the OCU Law Library. If you need assistance with this or any equipment or
resources in the Law Library do not hesitate to ask someone at the Circulation Desk or a
Reference Librarian.
1. Turn on the Minolta Reader/Scanner using the button on the right side of the
equipment.
2. Plug your key drive into the hub attached to the front of the library computer. If
you do not have a key drive they are available for checkout from the Circulation Desk for in-
library use.
3. Load microfilm or microfiche. The complete Universal Carrier UC-7 Operator’s Manual
which explains how to load microfilm and microfiche is available in print above the
Reader/Scanner.

4. Align microfiche or microfilm page on the screen of the Reader/Scanner within the box
shown below.
5. On the main computer screen click on the “OP
Digital Imaging and Scanning” button
(Make sure that the microform scanner has been
turned on before the OmniPage program is
launched)
6. If it is not already selected, use the 1st
dropdown to select “1 – 2 – 3”. Start the
scanning process by clicking on the button
above “Scan B&W”.
This will start the scanning process on the
Minolta microform reader and the “Konica
Minolta” splash screen will display.

7. Once the scan of that page is finished, this screen
displays. If you want to scan more pages, display the next
page on the microform scanner, then click on the “Add More
Pages” button. Continue as necessary. Once you are
finished, click on the “Stop Loading Pages” button.
8. If you want to proofread the created document,
click on the 3rd button (labeled “2”). The program
will cycle though unrecognized characters and
allow you to change as necessary. In the
example on the left, it recognized that the word
was probably “wise” and automatically suggested
the word, along with other possibilities . In the
next example, it recognized only the letters “ki” as
suspect text. To correct, you can click in the box
and add letters to change the word to read “king”.

To save your file to your memory key,click
on the “Save to File” button. This gives
you the ability to save your file in many
formats, such as HTML, Microsoft
Publisher, Microsoft Word, as a PDF, as
RTF (rich text format), as text, or in
Wordperfect format.
Choose the file format, create your file name, and save to your
key drive. The file can now be used on your computer, or
printed from your computer.
