dddooonnnaaattteee The Links, Incorporated founded in FALL 2016
1946, is one of the oldest and largest
Linked in Friendship, Connected in Service volunteer service organizations of 71
women who are committed to
enriching, sustaining and ensuring
the culture and economic
survival of African Americans
and other persons of African
ancestry.
Members of The San Bernardino
Valley (CA) Chapter of The Links,
Incorporated (est. 1979), have a great
program designed to help mothers in Africa
and Haiti while at the same time giving new
life to an unwanted t-shirt. The San Bernardino
Valley (CA) Chapter collects clean, used t-shirts
and sews them into reusable cloth diapers. The
reusable cloth (t-shirt) diapers are then donated
to mothers in need.
On average, one child will use, 5000 disposable
diapers and it takes, approximately, 700 years
for one disposable diaper to disintegrate. For
underdeveloped countries, disposable diapers
are costly and wasteful.
This October, the City of Rialto Waste
Management Division will be collecting
used t-shirts and donating them to The San
Bernardino Valley (CA) Chapter of The Links,
Incorporated.
For more information about this
special collection and how you can
help, please call Joanne Gilbert at
