2008

Creating Holiday Memories Since 1992

Dear Walking Friends,

Welcome to another season of journeys with Scott Walking Adventures!

In 2007, we celebrated our 15th Anniversary with new friends and many of
our existing friends who continue to travel with us each year! One of our
guests also celebrated her 15th trip with us in October. A big ‘Thank You’
goes out to Jacqueline for her genuine inspiration throughout the years as a
passionate walker and sincere friend!

We continue to offer memorable vacation experiences designed for travelers
who want to see the world in a different way...and what better way than
on foot…the best possible vantage point! Our unique journeys combine
a sense of exploration and adventure with the finest creature comforts: at
the end of each day you’ll rest at charming, cozy inns and enjoy excellent
cuisine as you share stories from the day among friends.

As each year brings new endeavors, we continue to broaden our walking horizons and venture into exciting new terrain. Join
us as we walk The Last Frontier in Canada’s Northern Yukon Territory and explore Tidal Discoveries along Nova Scotia’s rich
tidal shores of the Bay of Fundy. Certainly there are more options than ever before, so imagine yourself on the trails as you
take a walk through the pages ahead!

Wherever you choose to travel with us, know you’ll be traveling responsibly. We are passionate about nature and dedicated to
environmental preservation, and those ideals are reflected in everything we do. No-trace hiking is always practiced, and all of
our journeys are designed and carried out with scrupulous attention to conserving resources and protecting the environment
of the places we visit. Visit our Responsible Travel Policy on the website to learn more!

Thank you for encouraging our decision to take the steps as a sustainable & responsible travel company as we walk the path
of offering our catalogue online and eliminate the materials and energy used to create the beautiful catalogue you have come
to know over the years.

Our catalogue has certainly evolved over the years…
1992 - Single page, recycled paper promoting Cape Breton Nature Tours plus a website!
2002 - 10th Anniversary - 20 page catalogue printed on chlorine free paper
2007 - 15th Anniversary - 24 page catalogue printed on chlorine free paper with veggie based inks and overall aqueous coating
- download version available on the website
2008 - ‘Minimize the Impact’ - 28 page catalogue goes completely online - which really is the best choice for continuing to
reduce our footprint and progress with the times!

We look forward to enhancing our responsible and sustainable travel practices in order to continue sharing the rich history and
culture of the regions we visit, along with the simple beauty of nature, with you and your family for many years to come.

We will see you on the trails in 2008…wherever your feet may take you in the meantime…happy walking & hiking!

The Guides That Lead Our Way

Each of our guides is uniquely talented in finding ways to
share nature’s majestic moments: peaceful pauses along
the trail, wildlife ‘wows’ and special picnic delights. Most of
our guides lead the way, year after year, on the adventure
in their own home regions. Who else would go in search
of a kitchen fiddle party or serenade you with a Gaelic folk
song while you’re having lunch on a mountaintop? Who
else can tell you about the trials of the first settlers, or the
plant remedies once used? Who else will know the secret
nesting areas of rare owls? These are just some of the
experiences that our guides share. (See guide’s individual
biographies at www.scottwalking.com)

Our Code of Ethics

Scott Walking Adventures practices “no trace” hiking and is committed to the principals of ecotourism.

• We ensure that the environmental, social, cultural, economic and aesthetic needs and expectations of the community and
our customers are included in our policies, plans, and decisions and result in the provision of quality goods and services.
• We ensure operations are designed and conducted in a manner that will conserve resources, minimize or eliminate
environmental damage and, where possible, enhance environmental situations.
• We are continually evaluating new information, technologies and services, thus providing our employees and ourselves
with opportunities for development, environmental education and protection, and improved customer service.
• We act with a spirit of cooperation within the industry and related sectors to foster greater public awareness of the
economic, social, cultural and environmental significance of tourism.
• We enhance our natural, historic, cultural and aesthetic resources as a legacy for present and future generations, through
encouraging establishment of parks, wilderness reserves and protected areas.
• We ensure that the privacy of our guests, potential guests and guides is maintained and follows the directives of the
Privacy Act.
• We believe that an authentic travel experience can be a life changing experience through awareness of the culture, history
and natural environment of the region. Out of this awareness comes respect for the local people, their customs & beliefs and
economic needs. From this awareness and respect comes a reverence for all living matter in the eco-zone visited.

All adventures are designed with the RARE principle:
