LO July

LAST Your on-trade & foodservice brochure 1st to 31st July 2023 ORDERS The 2023 Women’s Football World Cup begins 20th July

Since the Lionesses’ victory in Euro 2022, women’s football is going from strength to strength is looking like being a big draw this summer. Stock a varied bar It’s likely more women will attend these games but that doesn’t mean it’s all about gin and wine. Try offering customers beer samples before they buy. So by all means, stock up on your best-selling spirits and wines, but don’t presume that’s all women will drink. Tricky timings The match timings may be difficult to navigate as the World Cup is in Australia and New Zealand. England’s games will be in the morning. If your licence allows, could you open earlier? If the Lionesses progress far, it would be a lucrative morning. Ensure your coffee and soft drink menu is top class. Alternatively, show the games later in the day. Try a brunch With the games being played in the morning, it’s a good opportunity to showcase an impressive brunch menu. Pancake stacks and fry-ups are always popular. Or put on a breakfast mac and cheese – let customers choose their toppings from bacon, sausage chunks and mushrooms. Expect to be busy during the Women’s Football World Cup this summer.

Alcohol duty rates have remained frozen since 2020. In the March 2023 budget, the Government announced Alcohol duty changes , to apply from 1st August 2023. These changes apply to all alcohol categories and broadly change the duty to a duty tax on Alcohol by Volume ( ABV ) in litres per product for all categories. This means a reduction in the number of categories from 15 to 6. All duty rates will change on 1st August 2023 in line with the retail price index ( around 9.2%) . The exception to this is Draught Beer and Cider products in 20lt or above containers, where the Government have pledged to support the On trade, by increasing the relief on Draught products to 9.2% . This will avoid any DUTY increases on Draught Beer products and reduce the increase on Draught Cider. Alcohol Duty Changes

Our Head of On-Trade Wine, Ian Dovey, answers our ‘meet the team’ questions this week. Find out his responses below. Where did you work prior to joining Dee Bee Wholesale? 21 years at WIV (Pieroth Wines) What’s your favourite drink (alcoholic)? A nice Amarone (red wine) or a Hoppy, tropical IPA What would people be surprised to know about you? Outside of working hours I am not massively extroverted. I’m happy with my own company or just a few close friends Where is the place you would most like to visit and why? Australia so much to see and do, Vineyards, history, Beaches, great golf courses and some amazing scenery/places. What is your favourite movie? I don’t really have a favourite film, but the one I quote lines from and remember more than most would be Snatch
