Fr. Dr. Victor Lobo S.J.

St Joseph’s University [previously St Joseph’s College
(Autonomous)], Bengaluru, established in 1882, is the
first-of-its-kind PPP model University, the 3rd Jesuit
University in India and one of the premier institutions
of higher education in the country. The Institution is
administered by the Jesuits through a registered body,
the Bengaluru Jesuit Educational Society® (BJES)
built on the principles of St Ignatius of Loyola. Over
the 140 years of its glorious legacy, SJU has
championed the cause of the poor and the
marginalised, quality and equitable education for the
disadvantaged, community service, and inclusivity at
all levels. The Institution offers 44 UG courses, 25 PG
courses and 4 doctoral programmes including
professional and vocational courses and they are
diversified over several pertinent fields of knowledge.

With a green campus set in the heart of the city, the
Institution enjoys student and staff diversity, PhD
qualified staff members, recognised PhD guides and
several research scholars working under them backed
by earmarked research corpus. Other best practices
of the Institution include support services for the
differently-abled along with assistive software,
scholarships/freeships for students from deprived
backgrounds, a midday meal scheme, environmental
consciousness, greener practices and academically
productive linkages with other institutions and
organisations both at the national and international
levels

under St. Joseph’s University
offers a multitude of courses in
the field of Computer Science
and Information Technology
(CS & IT). These courses include
both well-established as well as
emerging areas in the field of
CS & IT. The Institute has
strong collaborations with the
industry and academia.

That has helped the institution to offer courses better
tuned to the needs of the industry. This has resulted in
creating a good ecosystem for both the students as well as
the industry.

Some of the courses that are offered by the Institute are
MSc(Big Data Analytics), MSc(Computer Science), PG
Diploma in Cyber Security, BCA(Data Analytics),
BSc(Computers Science), Bachelor in Computer
Applications etc.

The Institute has two departments viz. “Advanced
Computing” and “Computer Science and Computer
Applications”. These departments are headed by Dr. Jayati
Bhadra and Ms. Sandhya respectively. MSc(Big Data
Analytics) Course is among the top 10 Data Analytics
courses in India according to the survey conducted by
Analytics Magazine.

The same course has been ranked as “Most admirable
course in India” by Knowledge Review magazine. Times of
India ranked Bachelor in Computer Applications course at
the third position in the year 2021 - 22.

We have plans to start MCA ( Master in Computer
Applications) from the next academic year and PG
programs in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security

The University also offers certificate courses offered by
AWS, Microsoft and Infosys Technologies. Those who
complete these courses stand an edge over others.

Message from the HOD

Dr. Jayati Bhadra

The Department was established in 2016 with the initiation of a 2-year
post graduate program in Big Data Analytics. In 2020, the Department
introduced a 1-year post graduate Diploma in Cyber Security in
collaboration with HKCS Foundation and an Under Graduate course
BCA(Data Analytics) . In 2021, the Department introduced a 1-year post
graduate Diploma in Data Science.

The M.Sc.(Big Data Analytics) program enjoys the support and
patronage of the Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.(TCS), and is built
around a state-of-the-art laboratory established with TCS. Professor
Bimal Kumar Roy, the eminent academic and researcher, former
Director of Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), and Padma Shri awardee, is
the guiding spirit and adviser of this program.

The Department’s lab, that can accommodate 60 students and work
for extended hours, has a high-speed computing infrastructure to
handle big data loads, and a high-definition Cisco video conferencing
facility for students and faculty to interact with industry experts, in
academic and consulting roles.

The Department’s M.Sc.(Big Data Analytics) program has been an
unqualified success; over 300 students have completed the program,
and today work in India’s top IT establishments, including TCS, in a
variety of professional roles undertaking complex projects and
assignments in statistical modeling and inference, Machine Learning,
Deep Learning and AI.

About the Club

The Sigma Squared Association was started in the year 2017 by
the M.Sc., Big Data Analytics students, mainly to address
student’s issues as well as to get in constant touch with
industries by hosting renowned persons to fill the gap between
education and industry for its students. It has a history of 5
years. Over the years this has helped students gain their persona
and also a practical way of looking into the problems and
gaining an overall exposure and outlook.
The essence of any association is to help students get into a new
way of life. When the time to graduate from college comes,
many students panic and forget what they have to do. We as
sigma squared association keep in constant touch with our
alumni association. However, alumni associations focus not only
on student support. The variety of their functions is impressive
indeed. This is why, to realize the true intentions of alumni
associations, we deeply value their intentions for college life and
education improvements.
We are proud to say that the following events have been
successful in the year 2021-2022, Adda with Venkat, Datagram
4.0, Workshop on MLOps, Workshop on Industry Oriented Data
Analytics, and many more to bring out the best outcome in
students.
The exposure and the freedom this brings to students are
immense. There’s always a history of achievements behind this
association. Students build their overall persona and St Joseph’s
University has always been a great support to its students at all
times!

Preferred dates of campus visit( possible dates of campus
visit will be given by placement cell) - online/offline

2.Placement Cell will share the details of the respective
students opting for placement to company/organization
concerned, as per their requirement, along with the updated
Placement Brochure indicating dates and other relevant
details for the campus interviews.

3.Placement Cell allots specific dates to the companies for
campus interviews based on various details given by
companies.

4.The company/ organizations confirm the dates with the
Placement Cell in advance.

5.All information regarding campus placement is being
regularly updated in the department website of the Institute
and the students are duly informed through mails, messages
and phone calls.

6.Companies visit the campus on the allotted date(s) and
conduct presentations/ written tests / GD / Personal
interviews according to their scheduled recruitment process.

7. If required, telephonic interviews or online interviews may
also be arranged.

8.The company/ organizations are requested to declare the
final list of selected students on the same day of campus visit.

9.The company should hand over the duly signed hard copy of
the final selection list to the placement cell.

10.All offer letters should be directed to the placement cell
and Placement Cell will share it with the students.

11. Placement Cell will share the offer acceptance by the
selected students within 48 hours of the receipt of the offer.
