Greetings Brothers of The Mighty Fourth District: The Heart of Omega

To: Brother Mark Shaw, Fourth District Talent Hunt Chair, Brothers of Zeta Kappa Kappa, host
chapter and the Men of The Mighty Fourth District: The Heart of Omega, to the Talent Hunt
Contestants, parents, support teams, I greet you in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus the
Christ, from whom all blessings flow.

Wow, what a time we have witnessed these last several years social unrest, police brutality,
world wide pandemic, political turmoil, threat of a world wide war and the escalation of
violence producing death of our young people, on our young people. To look at these social
maladies, you would think we had lost all hope; but there is a word in the Word that says
“Where sin abounds, grace do much more abound!

It is with that encouraging message that I salute the contestants, the parents and the individual
support teams , that have worked diligently to make it to this point. You have done an amazing
job and I can see you in the future and it looks much brighter than today, as you fulfill your
goals. Outstanding job and keep up the good work and remember to always keep God first.
Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart”. You
are our leaders of today and tomorrow.

The International Talent Hunt Program is only successful because of the many brothers at the
local, state, district, and international levels who work tirelessly to implement the highest
quality talent hunts that showcase the best and the brightest young people in the visual and
performing arts. Brothers, we thank you and appreciate your efforts and positive energy! We
also express a hearty thanks to the Omega Life Membership Foundation, Inc., and the
international headquarters of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. for their endorsement.

Brother Elder David L. Reliford

35th Fourth District Representative

DANITA HARRIS

Danita Harris, WEWS News5 anchorwoman and an Emmy-Award winning journalist, uses her
profession as a main anchor to reach many people. She feels blessed to work in the broadcasting
industry because it partners well with her commitment to community service.

Danita’s latest initiative “It’s Your Time to S.H.I.N.E.” is a women’s group designed to help
hurting women find the light within themselves. They meet monthly with hundreds in
attendance. It was birthed out of Danita’s desire to be a vessel of hope to those who feel
forgotten, rejected, abused, and unloved. Her goal is to provide a safe space where women can
deal with their issues and get the practical tools they need to overcome personal challenges. In
October 2018, she founded S.H.I.N.E. Girlz Mentoring Program, that is currently in schools in the
Cleveland Metropolitan School District. During the first year, over 100 4th-8th grade girls successfully
completed the S.H.I.N.E. Girlz Mentoring Program.

Rev. Danita Harris was born in Chester, PA. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in the 8th grade and lives as a
woman who continuously seeks the face of God. Her favorite scripture is Luke 12:48 “For everyone to whom much is given, of
him shall much be required.” She currently attends Church on the North Coast in Wickliffe. She is an instructor of Effective
Communication in Ministry at the Ohio Leadership Academy of the Cleveland Baptist Association.

Danita challenges herself with ways she can help people in the community who are dealing with challenging issues. She
organized a fundraiser to help homeless women and children, domestic violence victims and those who have experienced sexual
violence. Danita was able to enlist the help of every local TV station and two major radio stations to increase the awareness of
these issues. The event was a success and numerous monetary donations were made to organizations that are assisting women
and children in their journey to find homes and overcome the trauma that has touched their lives.

Danita has held several roles at WEWS. In 1998, she came to NewsChannel5 as part of the “Morning Exchange,” where she did
live feature reports. After two years, Danita moved to WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C., where she anchored the news on
weekends and did entertainment reports during the week.
Danita’s love for the Cleveland area quickly brought her back to WEWS in September of 2000, when she stepped into the
anchor position for “Good Morning Cleveland” and NewsChannel5 at noon. In 2004, Danita received an Emmy when Good
Morning Cleveland won Best Morning Newscast. In 2010 she was inducted into the Ohio Broadcasters Hall of Fame and in
2017 she received 2 more Emmy’s for best evening newscast and a special on domestic violence. Harris reported a 4-part series
on the foster care system and won the Journalist of the Year award from the Public Children’s Services Association of Ohio for
her work to increase public awareness of child protection. She is also the recipient of the prestigious Chuck Heaton award from
The Press Club of Cleveland. In 2019, she received three more Emmy Awards for Best Daytime Newscast, Best Evening
Newscast and Breaking News: Caught in the Crossfire – The Shooting Death of 9-year-old Saniyah Nicholson. She was also
recognized by the National Council of Negro Women as one of the Outstanding Women in Ministry in Cuyahoga County.

Harris is extremely proud of serving as a guest host on ABC’s “The View,” and interviewing talk show host Oprah Winfrey.

After anchoring the morning show for six years, Harris was promoted to the evening anchor position, which she held until
March of 2020, when she decided to return to Good Morning Cleveland and News5 at noon so that she could be home more
with her son Chase.

One of Danita’s first broadcasting roles was at Black Entertainment Television, a national cable network located in Washington,
D.C. While there, she worked behind the scenes as a producer in several areas; news, sports, music and entertainment.

Danita has a heart for people. She has won numerous awards for being a civic-minded individual whose passion for people is
evident by all who meet her.

Danita is active in WEWS’s shadow program that allows high school students to spend the day with broadcast professionals.
Danita understands the power of the media and does all she can to wield that power to support young people and push them to
success.

In her spare time, she loves listening to jazz and gospel music.

One of Danita’s greatest blessings is her son Chase. He is an answered prayer and a testament of God’s faithfulness to her.

She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority Inc. and the National Council of Negro Women.

School of Music & Fine Arts, Inc. His music school offers private instruction and master
classes which incorporates theory with relative application. Another branch of the
business is a program entitled, “The Art of Worship”, where he trains praise teams and
groups.

One of Hubb’s greatest passions is ministering musically in the church. His gifting is
unique and has been valuable to many denominations throughout the Christian faith.
Hubbard served as the Minister of Music of The Word Church in Cleveland, Ohio, under
the pastorate of R.A. Vernon. During his eight years of service he produced the churches
first CD, “Worship at the Word.” While serving at the Word Church and partnering with
Pastor R.A. Vernon, he watched the growth of the membership explode from 500
members to over 20,000. He currently serves as Minister of Music at
The Body of Christ Assembly in Warrensville, Heights, Ohio under the leadership of
Bishop Erik Kincaid Clark.
One of his major accomplishments was co-writing the song “You are God Alone,” with
his brother, Pastor Ron Ixaac Hubbard, which appears on Marvin Sapp’s album Diary of
a Psalmist. It was ranked #4 on the gospel billboard charts in 2004.

Over the years, he has traveled abroad to several countries which includes but is not
limited to Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Denmark, England, France, UK, Canada, and
Japan. He also facilitates a gospel music workshop entitled, Gospel Connection

and support choirs, dancers, ministers, artists, bands, and a host of other groups and organizations
about the collaborative spirit needed to deliver an inspirational and harmonious musical product to the
masses. The seminar exposes attendees to the principles of humility, collaboration, team building,
accountability, purpose, and dedication as a means through which superior musical results can be
achieved. Also through his Master Classes, attendees are taught basic principles of tonal theory,
counterpoint, and other musical structures and forms. The importance of temperament, active listening,
and service to others through your gifts are some of the tenets that are taught and espoused as part of
the training modules within “The Color of Music” master class. This clinic has allowed Jimmie to travel
the world sharing his musical talents and knowledge with those who work in the creative arts.

Jimmie A. Parker Sr. continues to inspire others. He is that unique talent who is driven to teach and
encourage others, while maintaining a sincere desire to perfect his craft by challenging himself in new

Charlotte, NC which will be held during the Omega Psi Phi
Fraternity 83rd Grand Conclave on July 23, 2022.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was founded on November 17, 1911,
and incorporated October 28, 1914, at Howard University, Washington
D.C. The Fraternity has been active nationally and internationally
for over 110 years. During that time we have been involved in a
variety of community activities such as Scholarship Programs; High
School Essay Contests; Voter Registration, Education and
Mobilization; Anti-Domestic Violence Initiative; Fatherhood
Initiative in collaboration with the White House; Big Brothers, Big
Sisters Initiative; Assault on Illiteracy; Habitat for Humanity;
Mentoring Programs, and Health Initiatives which include programs as
the Charles R. Drew Blood Drive, HIV/AIDS Awareness, and
participation in fundraisers for charities such as the American
Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, United Way, and Sickle
Cell Anemia just to name a few.

One of the fraternity’s key international mandated programs is
the Talent Hunt. The Talent Hunt Program was established in 1945 and
is implemented worldwide annually by the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity,
Inc. Its purpose is to expose and encourage young gifted, visual and
performing artists while assisting them in furthering their
education.

OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY, INC.
TALENT HUNT HISTORY

The Talent Hunt program of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is one of several national programs designed to
identify and support the youth of our nation and world. The original idea was credited to Brother J. Alston
Atkins of Winston Salem, North Carolina, and Brother Dewey Duckett of Rock Hill, South Carolina. While the
idea was conceived in 1945, the first District Talent Hunt program was held in the Sixth District in Charlotte,
North Carolina, on April 19, 1946. The need for such a program was born out of unequal opportunity afforded
to some American youth to develop and give full expression to their talents.

The success of the Talent Hunt program, especially in the Sixth District, from the standpoint of community
interest and the scholarship assistance made available to the winners as a result of overwhelming public support,
led to its adoption by the national organization. Talent Hunt, as a national program, made its grand debut in
1953 when the Fraternity featured the winners of the local and regional contests on a public program at the
Grand Conclave in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The original statement of the Talent Hunt idea included this expression: “Creative and outstanding capacities in
any honorable activity should be eligible for consideration." During public presentations, all original displays
were limited to the field of music. Since that time, the Talent Hunt program has been expanded to include other
forms of the expressive arts. It is significant to note that prior to 1969, all participants in the Talent Hunt
program were required to be high school seniors. The year 1969 appears on documents indicating a revision in
the guidelines for the operation of Talent Hunt programs on every level. That revision expanded the level of
participation to grades 9 through 12.

The Talent Hunt Idea has become one of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity's National Projects, with all graduate
chapters mandated to conduct an Annual Talent Hunt Program. On the Local and District levels, the project is
competitive. At the National level the program is demonstrative. The National Program is made up of District
Winners, who by their talent, diligence, ability and potential appear as Guests of the Fraternity. At this stage of
our growth the Talent Hunt Idea is proceeding on the National level along three lines:

1) At each session of the Grand Conclave and Leadership Conference, a Talent Hunt demonstration is
presented to the public.

2) In addition, Omega is also interested in what it calls a "Fundamental Search for Talent." Here the
Fraternity hopes to develop the process and resources through which it can help discover and provide
assistance, as may be needed, to young people who have shown and possess talents of outstanding and
exceptional quality. The field of interest will not be limited to music but all areas of the performing arts.

3) In our projected planning we hope to further encourage the Contestants on our Talent Hunt Programs by
recommending them to our chapters and other organizations throughout the United States for presentations
in their respective communities.

The Talent Hunt Program of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity has touched thousands of students, many of whom have
gone on to make outstanding contributions to their communities and to our world. Many have earned
scholarships, awards, and recognitions through exposure from this program. Talent Hunt Contestants have
appeared on the Ted Mack Original Amateur Hour, the Apollo Theater, Radio City Music Hall, Philadelphia
Academy of Music, Philadelphia Civic Center, New York City, Washington, DC Centers for the Performing
Arts, the Eastman Theater, etc.

The Talent Hunt Program has been very rewarding to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and many talented youth. We
will continue to search for and support our gifted youth.
