Brookville while its largest borough is Punxsutawney. The county was established back
on March 26, 1804, from part of Lycoming County and later officially organized in
1830. It is named for President Thomas Jefferson and is home to Punxsutawney Phil,
the groundhog that predicts when spring will come every Groundhog Day, February 2.
Jefferson County is a perfect place to visit, work, live and play! The area is full of
resources for coal, natural gas, timber reserves and metal manufacturing. There are
beautiful rolling hills and natural scenery to see and explore. With many lakes, streams,
trails, forests and farmlands, there is a variety of options and recreational outdoor
activities. Come play some golf, go snowmobiling or ride an ATV, discover the wildlife
or exlpore our area parks and trails. Discover the arts and theater, visit the historical
landmarks or even do some shopping or grab a bite to eat. No matter what kind of
