the county seat being the city of Dover-Foxcroft. The county was incorporated in
March, 1838, and was taken from the western part of Penobscot County and the
eastern part of Somerset County. The county is named for an Abenaki word
meaning "branch of the river" or "at the river branch."
There is plenty to see and do here in the Piscataquis County and Moosehead
Lake Area. Find some family fun activities, outdoor adventure or do some relaxing
with friends. Come explore the outdoors, do some hiking or biking, go fishing,
